Apple TV Plus Series ‘Slow Horses’

“It’s a quite popular series of books, so I knew what it was about,”
the legendary Rolling Stones singer tells Variety. “I knew the vibe
really well, so as soon as [composer Daniel Pemberton] sent the
track to me, I just dashed off a few pages of notes of what I thought
it was about. It came very, very quickly, which is always a good sign.”

Jagger’s lyrics convey something of the dilemma faced by the principals:
“Surrounded by losers, misfits and boozers / hanging by your fingernails/
you made one mistake, you got burned at the stake / you’re finished,
you’re foolish, you’ve failed…”

"...the Gary Oldman character is irreverent,” Jagger explains. “It’s also
slightly eerie, so it combines those two things. You don’t want to make it
too serious.” He didn’t see any of the series until after he’d finished the
song, which included a three-and-a-half minute version slated for release
Friday via Polydor Records / Universal Music.

Parts of the song are heard in the body of the show. And Jagger’s
signature harmonica occasionally features in Pemberton’s underscore.

NME and probably others have the same story. Its kind of interesting
that all of them are using this same publicity photo, so i assume its
recent, which is technologically amazing, since its been made to
look Goddess-era (not that he's not in great shape)

*very unsure of this word, but "piles" and
lower back pain are often concurrent stress symptoms, the
hemorrhoids causing the muscles around the coccyx to put
the disks under pressure. At least thats what the internet tells me.
(i am going to be so wrong about this word. it is going to be
something much less convoluted. i'm embarrassed already)

Reminiscent of David Bowie selling the not-yet-released track Blackstar as the opening number for a British series called The Last Panthers a few years ago.  Not a bad show, either.

I don't know why but it's been a long time since Mick's vocals have had mystery to them in terms of the mix and how they are recorded. It's just so clear and digital sounding that it takes good songs and makes them average. This is sort of the same. The mixes of his vocals used to be so interesting and left room to imagine.

I watched the first half hour. I can't imagine how bored I would
have to be to watch any more. One nice 15-second snippet of
Mick's harmonica is not adequate compensation for being
suffocated by tedious cliched nonsense.

Mick said he didnt watch any of the show before doing the song.
And i bet he hasnt watched any of it since either.

Here's the storyline: Jagger got paid to make an advertisement for a
crap TV show and, ever the pro, he did an outstanding job on the jingle.

yet after 4 days it is claimed by youtube that the original audio vid
and the subsequent lyrics vid have a total of only 92,000 views/listens

statistically this is absolutely impossible. for some reason the numbers '
are being suppressed

i have no idea why that might be, but it is a certainty that the youtube
count is fake news.

if i come up with a theory, i'll let you know. meantime,
let the lame jokes commence

1) I got onto it a couple hours after it had been released in eastern
Australia. It had been out over 5 hours in New Zealand. Youtube said
at that time it had 5 views

2) "colonial" on iorr dot org got onto it when it had been out over
14 hours, reaching all of europe and some of the americas.
"colonial" wondered why it only had 500 views at that time

3) and i'm sure you know that these absurdly low numbers guaranteed
that the track would not be fed to anybody via the youtube algorithm

4) so yeah, it sounds weird, it sounds conspiratorial, but the
brilliant Egon has a perfectly logical explanation. C'mon Egon,
i appreciate you sharing your great insight with me privately but,
don't be shy, tell everybody and receive your plaudits...

As it so happens, there is an ongoing mini-war between google/youtube
and apple/appleTV, with each disabling to some extent the ability of their
users to access the other's content via some of their apps...

here's a recent headline from gizmodo: "Apple Disables Purchases on
Android and Google TV Platforms"

So i would say it is likely that Mick's vid, which blatantly advertises not just
the show but appleTV itself, is having its numbers grossly manipulated
downwards by google/youtube as part of their squabble with apple...

I think we can regard my earlier speculation that Mick was simply a
paid spokesperson for the show as confirmed

Its brilliant really. Get hired for big bucks to give publicity to
appleTV by making it seem like you released a single.

Don't believe me? Go to mickjagger dot com and "strange game"
is not even mentioned. The front page is still "easy sleazy"

Proceeds to Mick from this "single": near zero

Proceeds from all these interviews hyping the show's theme song:
I would guess at least a half million from apple PLUS Mick gets to
sell the tour at the same time

And i think its safe to say that most of these euro radio stations
are also getting payments from apple, and here's some strong
circumstantial evidence of that:

when that Swedish station ran their original 24-minute interview,
it was nearly all about the Stones touring, and headlined as such, with
the appleTV show mentioned for only a few minutes at the end...

but by the next day, the radio station had only a 5-minute excerpt posted,
which was nearly all about the TV show, and headlined that way

So there you have it, Mick Jagger being paid to compose a song and be
a spokesperson for a streaming service and their crap TV show, all this
accomplished in stealth mode, to make it seem like a sincere release
by the artist...

IMO the song is decent, the show probably stinks. Apple TV is $25.00 a month so no thanks.

We need a new Strong Stones song this week! Strange Game was a L for Stones Nation.

Listened to it. It's a god song but I can't really relate to it. Don't watch the show; I haven't bothered with TV in years. My TV set is for DVDs and Blu-rays. I liked Got to Get a Grip better. I keep it on my phone.
