Title: Rarities
Post by 3ddie on Feb 5th, 2022 at 6:32am
Maybe I did not find the right thread but I cannot find anything while using the search. So I'd like to talk/write about the legal rarities e.g. Japanese bonus tracks.
I thought I've got them all but as I bought the DVD of Scorcese's "Shine A Light" these days I discovered a great take of "Undercover (Of The Night)" on it. I'm absolutely thrilled by that performance as that tune is on the Top Ten list of may favourite Stones songs.
A little search in the web told me that this was on the Japanese edition of the SAL soundtrack (I've got the usual double CD), it was also published on the Itunes version and on an unofficial collection called "Lost Legal Live Tracks".
I searched the web high and low to buy or download it. Nothing found - it seems to be lost. I tried a DVD rip of that take but the sound doesn't fit to my soundtrack because of the special movie mix.
So I dare to ask if anyone could help me with that Japanese bonus track, you'd make a grown man cry!
As there always have been special bonus tracks in Japan and rare live takes on singles I'd like to know if there is more which I don't know by now?

Here's a list of the Japan bonus tracks but I don't think it's complete:

Stripped: Black Limousine (live 1995)
Bridges To Babylon: Angie (live tokyo 1995)
No Security: I Just Wanna Make Love To You (live Amsterdam 1998)
40 Licks: Sympathy for the Devil(Neptunes Remix)
Live Licks: If You Canīt Rock Me (live)
Shine a Light: Undercover (of the Night) (live)
Exile on Main Street (deluxe): All Down The Line (Alt. Take)
Some Girls (Deluxe): So Young (Piano Version)
Sweet Summer Sun: Happy / Bitch / All Down The Line / Beast Of Burden
Goat's Head Soup Anniversary Deluxe: 100 Years Ago (Glyn Johns 1973 Mix) / Can You Hear the Music (Glyn Johns 1973 Mix).

I know this is probably stupid to post, because it is from shine a light and not the japan version (and you're saying the audio is different?) man. If I had the japan version I'd definitely be able to rip it for you and figure out where the audio came from. But I too share a deep love for Undercover so I'm going to post this anyway. I'll try searching around more cause I'm interested too

@ Turner Purple: They used different mixes for DVD and soundtrack. The DVD-mixes focus on the instruments and actions on screen to point them out. It's intended that the viewers feel they are on stage with the band.
The soundtrack has regular audio mixes.
@ Andrews27 thank you very much for the link. Unfortunally I am too dumb to use torrents.

Or smart not to use them.

Ah yes, I am familiar with what you mean, now. I thought what you meant is that the audio on the Japanese shine a light is entirely different (whether adapted to screen or otherwise untouched) as if there was a Japanese DVD version with different audio or something. Now I understand yoh are simply speaking on just the audio tracks. So the Japan has the bonus as well as Undercover being a different version - not different footage aside this is still interesting to me. Were you able to find it through the link from Andrews? If so I'll follow suit and check out your discovery, here.

Let's say, I'm too anxious to use torrents. Though there is another rare thing on this rutracker list: The rare dutch CD single 0f JJF from 1991 which hast two interesting takes from Live At The Max.

@Turner People - yes, I found it there, and another ultra rare one I don't have in my collection: Dutch CD single from 1991, JJF with TD and SSF from Live At The Max.
But I don't dare using torrents and if I don't find s.o. who is experienced with torrents and either shows me to use it secure or does those two downloads for me, I'll have to wait.

So concerning Undercover I did another rip from my SAL DVD and did some mastering. The sound is quite okay and it's better than nothing until I find the real thing.

@ Turner Purple: Yesterday I found a boot, 12 CDs, that contains nearly alle the rare single-B's and japanese bonus-tracks until Bigger Bang. Only one is missing but it's not hard to find, it's the 1981 B-side of Going To A Go Go. So watch out for "The White Master Box". It's a treasure.
So now for me it's only left to find those three japanese bonus tracks that came with "Sweet Summer Sun - Hyde Park Live" from 2013.

Sorry I've been off in a World - Glad you found it there. I tried looking through the catalogue and I'd thought I found what you were talking about but then it wouldn't let me find exactly the Undercover part so I got sort of confused and left for the time being but I'm assuming you found someone to obtain it for you. In the case that you ever decide to share it anywhere at all let me know because I have a feeling I might not be able to although that is mostly pathetic. I've discovered the white master box - and found one for sale but at the time I only had enough to buy my aforementioned films otherwise I would've. Completely amazing set of music in that thing, I'd be super happy for you if you found an original one and got it because they did remake them at one point and a lot of people try scamming with that.
