I was thinking the same thing last nite. No support band info like in the past. It was always a big announcement on RS.com. And will there be an audience vote?? Or will that time be filled by tribute related stuff? If there is no opening band, I cant wait to see the start/end times... because they affect the end times of the pre-parties 8-) 8-) 8-) I am actually more concerned with getting a decent meal before hand... |

The Revivalists are the opening act for St Louis.
They announced it on their facebook page literally an hour ago and seem pretty surprised about it https://www.facebook.com/therevivalists/posts/395904608572173 It would appear from this that the opening acts appear to be something of an afterthought. Incredible that they're only being announced so late. Zac Brown Band have just confirmed they're opening in Atlanta (November 11th) so I guess a few more will be rolled out in the coming days. Update - the Stones have confirmed that Ghost Hounds will be the opening acts in Charlotte, Pittsburgh, Nashville, Tampa and the first show in Los Angeles. |

I like the Gateway Arch, but I'd like it better if it spanned the river, though that would destroy the admirable current proportions.

1) for engineering/economic reasons. it couldnt have been built across the river, in any arch shape, because the river is 3 times wider than the current base 2) besides, it was designed as the "gateway to the west". if it went across the river it wouldve been a gateway to the north/south. this "gateway" commemorates the westward expansion of the US into indigenous territory, so of course its a racist monument by current standards. 3) its base equals its height, 630 feet, but it gives the illusion of being taller because of its mathematics, which do not describe a parabola, as commonly stated, but rather a "weighted catenary" 4) it is considered outstanding 1960s space age design, but its plans were submitted for a 1947 competition 5) my favorite fact: each leg needed to be constructed individually, but the legs needed to meet up at the top within 1/64 of an inch. this was widely considered impossible, and why it took 4 years to construct, with constant tiny adjustments to the gigantic pieces |

Keith was fantastic.
Mick was great as usual. Though he is getting a bit winded. Certainly Mick gets an A for effort. Sound at The Dome was way off on Ronnie's guitar or Ronnie was off. Camera work suffered too. Hopefully they will sort this out. Keith was amazing, camera would focus on the horns or S Jordan on drums. Keith great SFD solo. And bad camera work throughout night. Lots of Keith's back as he faced S Jordan on drums. Keith was awesome on Slipping Away. Miss Charlie for sure! S Jordan does his best, but replacing Charlie is impossible. Keith did no play LT&A, He played Happy and Slipping away. |

God damn did they deliver or what? I knew they would. They've been delivering every night since they ditched Blondie. It's so hard to get past the drums. Steve's great and I'm glad it's him on the throne, but it's not Charlie and I miss him. Shit got real seeing Mick hold Keith's hand when talking about Charlie. It's not only that they lost him, but knowing that at any moment one of their planes can be called to board, and the other has to close up shop. Their own mortality is really the only thing they have to face. And honestly, I respect the shit out of them for how they're facing it. They know the end is coming, fuck guys the end is here.... but on stage they look so unphased by it all, like it's not even real. They're just having a blast jamming with each other until their number is called, with all the endless swagger, attitude, confidence, energy and skill that are so uniquely Stones. They're on top of the world and are forced to close up shop, makes me sad. I'm a bit high and don't know if I'm just rambling but main point is the show sounded fantastic and I'm glad the guys are still getting joy out of performing And I really, really miss Charlie. |

Thanks for the photos, videos and comments
That intro really put a lump in my throat. They sound good. Different but still good. No 'Brown Sugar' for the second show in a row. No big deal in a shortened private show, but a huge surprise for that to happen at a stadium gig No issues with them rotating (or even dropping) some warhorses that have been played to death but I really hope this isnt some PC decision. Pretty ridiculous if they start pandering to that shit now - its not as if people are going to walk out if they play it and they probably wont play most of these places again anyway. And if they HAVE dropped it for that reason, its a bit absurd that they're playing 'Under My Thumb'.... |

[/quote] Well said. I agree 100%. Keith and Mick gave it 110%. It's good enough without Charlie to enjoy the SHOW! The Glimmer Twins are The Rolling Stones and this proved it more than ever. They had a blast and smiled and looked at each other many times all night. |

initial thoughts
Top 5 Stones show, maybe even top 5 any show, nothing too different than what they have been doing the last several years but it was just them at their most real playing their hearts out and getting very emotional doing it. Mick was actually choking up while singing early in the set. My spot was perfect, it was LOUD and with the roof blocking out ambient light it made the visuals that much more vivid. There were a few changes to the songs themselves like Steve Jordan playing a live drum intro to Sympathy and Mick slowing down on Satisfaction and trying to sing it like the original at least on the first verses. Living In A Ghost Town is the best song they have put out since One Hit To The Body and also the first time I remember seeing them put a new song in the set that the people around me actually want to see them do. I know people are bummed that Keith isn't picking 2 different songs to sing every tour but Happy or Before They Make Me Run and Slipping Away is the best Keith segment I have ever seen them do. On a more personal level I couldn't have asked for a better seat and one of my complaints about classic rock events are both the volume and the crowd but everyone around me was digging it and it was L O U D. The band barely scratches the surface on Brian Jones era songs and seems to be somewhat alienated from their catalog and how the fans connect with it but 19th Nervous Breakdown was probably the best received song in my section. Very rare to get songs like Under My Thumb, 19th Nervous Breakdown and Paint It Black all in the same show. Might squeeze in another show in addition to the 2 LA shows. Austin would be the best bet for obvious reasons but don't like the way the venue looks on the map. |

Where is the great Stones Soul/R&B cover album, to go with the great Blues cover album? There were rumors once that they tried out in the studio "Shame, Shame, Shame" by Shirley & Company, not to be confused with the different song of the same name by Jimmy Reed (which we know they did do). Would have been a great falsetto workout for Jagger, back in the days when he could pull that off. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YEzQV75LDL0 |

2) besides, it was designed as the "gateway to the west". if it went across the river it wouldve been a gateway to the north/south.

Band intros:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sObpSYMnY3A It seems like Charlie's passing has brought Mick and Keith closer together. Perhaps it has forced them to appreciate their relationship and put the rancor aside. Ghost Town sounds better than the album version, which I liked anyway. |

- Anyone notice that Mick was singing "Satisfaction" with that breathy snarl from the original? So cool.
- "Street Fighting Man" was excellent; it was so cool that Steve played it like the original and the guitars were great. It sounds like he tried to do the same with "Paint It Black," but it didn't work as well. - Keith seems to be paying tribute to Charlie by being on his game 100 % and emulating his professionalism. "Slipping Away" was absolutely beautiful and sung straight from the heart. He rocked "IORR" and "Sympathy." From what I hear, he outshone Ronnie tenfold who seemed to be off his game a bit. "Happy" was extremely strong as well. - "Gimme Shelter" was the only song that seemed a bit off, Ronnie seemed to struggle in the intro whilst Keith was fine. - "19th Nervous Breakdown" sounds fantastic. Keep this as a regular, it's truly spectacular. - "Ghost Town" works so much better live. - Mick seems like he got into even better shape during the pandemic. Very muscular and flexible. And his voice was strong. |

Title: Re: 2021 Tour - Show #2 The Dome at America's Center, St Louis, Mo. 26 September - setlist, photos, reviews Post by Ian Billen on Sep 27th, 2021 at 7:40pm I saw many clips and the recognition of Charlie at the show. I am quite happy and truthfully .. honestly pleasantly surprised. I truly figured The rest of The Stones would go on without much said or recognized (ala Brian Jones). The remebrence wasn't over done either. It was real and it does appear they are playing for / in an ode to him .. on this 'particular' tour. Thank GOODNESS. Didnt expect to see much or them to mention him except maybe a statement from Mick at some point during the show with a picture of him on the screens for a brief moment is all I expected. Cant base the whole show / entire concert around this theme ...and they didn't while keeping him in mind .. in poigniant places. Well done. Jordan is playing more like Charlie now as oppossed to the private show. My feeling is he did not want to attempt showing anyone up at their own game. However it is also different .. he is funkier at times and hits the skins harder .. NOT that he is better. There will never be another Charlie Watts. It is just different .. a different sound with some extra shots in the arm in some places. Yet it is still in the traditional Charlie Watts style of play in other places. However ..Midnight Rambler is def missing Charlie Watts. Sorry folks .. it is what it is. It may grow to be a different sort of thing .. and thats fine .. but right now it is still mechanical and off. It will not be the same Midnight Rambler with Charlie but perhaps it can take on a new form .. and still be really cool? Time will tell. In order for that to happen they have to keep playing it... especially live. It was the right replacement. It is different drum sound at times .. and thats fine.. it should be ..while in other songs and places it is quite close to Charlie Watt's sound. He is replacing Charlie Watts (bless Chalie) .. not filling in. He is his own musician. Fine line between playing in ode to Charlie to keep the Stones sound and yet being your own musician and respecting yourself. He understands that line and is riding it nicely .. and it appears The band is on board with that concept as well (bravo). The fundemantals of Watts play are there. Jordan brings a bit of direct punch and harsher sound at times... other times it is more of a funky drum approach .... at other times / songs it is quite close to before with CW in sound and in style>>> It is a nice balance. Look folks ... There is no 'replacing' Chalrlie Watts figuratively speaking ... but that is not the point or the aim (and it shouldnt be). It is sort of a new take on things. The path has forked .. Lil different direction from here out. Ian |

_______________________________________ Yes.. I saw that. Pretty touching. I was damn pissed before this tour started. I thought they were going to basically sweep Charlie Watts legacy under the carpet besides a quick mention and image. I didnt expect them to start the show with such a video etc. I didnt even expect them to do interviews before the tour or during in order to avoid questions or having to address Charlie Watts absence. I thought it was going to be that route they were taking and I was like even though Charlie wouldnt want the attention ... having as little possible is a big "waaaait.. hell nah'. I am surprised (and pleasantly so) this def was not the case (and it was not over done). Gosh ... Charlie was very special (I tell ya .. I am kinda sad ... as if I actually knew him like a good neighbor of mine for 40 plus years). Look not that the show is a tribute type of thing specifically .. it isn't (nor should it be). Cant base the premise of the tour on a downer .. sure it is a part of that .. due to circumstance and they respectully address it .. but it is still a Stones show and it is still suppossed to be a kick arse time in itself. The gist is that they are currently carrying on in his memory is how it is ... and that is perfect IMO (for right now anyway). I was worried they were trying to brush this off ... (thank GOODNESS it wasnt the case). They didn't even have to do as much as they did .. they presented the show that way bc they really do miss and value what he was to them. Charlie wouldnt of even really wanted em to .. but they jus HAVE to be human .. a little .. and they truly have. I didnt think Mick or Keith would bat-a- eye at this point or give any remembrence now that the tour had started. It was good to see they have. As was said ... cant base the show on Charlies passing .. or have it a memorial concert etc .. it isnt a 9/11 benefit show ... I mean, nobody wants that sort of thing here ... <<< and it wasnt... yet Charlie was quite recognized and remembered at the same time. The three of em roll on. Jordan will add a new take on things sonically. |
