Well, here we go again.  A new tour and, sadly a new era for our favourite band.

The opening show in the first tour without Charlie is a private show for Robert Kraft at the home of the New England Patriots. The Stones have played a show for him before, in a tent at the same venue on October 25th 2016, the final date of a 5-show mini tour in the US. That show took place in a tent in the middle of the stadium in front of about 300 people. This one will probably be on the same lines.

For private shows, the Stones are usually contracted to play for about 90 minutes, so don't expect a full length concert. Some interesting song choices in rehearsals, lets see if they play many of them.

No doubt it'll be hard to get eye witness accounts of this one, and sadly we won't have Charlotte Watts along on this tour to upload setlists on social media, so any help tracking down reports or photos will be welcome.

Good luck to the Stones and all of the band members - especially Steve Jordan - on what will undoubtedly be an emotional occasion for everyone.

add this to the circumstantial proof that the "finished outtakes" was a purposeful release

Troubles a Coming

(approx lyrics)

well i can hear all the people talking
i can hear the planet warping
"Troubles a coming", always that one
if you take me a ways from here
then i wont be a thousand years

trouble is coming, youre gonna pay for having fun
Trouble is coming, always that one
get it together

well i can know what the Pope's delivering
i said, excuse me for living
i'm in a prison and love is the key

if you want, now get together
well i know i'm not thinking of how
troubles a coming, you can see the death of hope
trouble is coming, something wants to steal your hope

the trouble is bad
youre stripped of all hope
trouble is coming
youre cheated of hope

got to say, the death of hope
trouble is coming, seeing the death of hope

well i can hear all the people talking
i can hear the planet warping
"Troubles a coming", always that one

if you take me a ways from here
then i wont be a thousand years
trouble is coming, youre gonna pay for having fun
trouble is coming, always that one
ooh get it together

well i can know what the Pope delivers
i said, excuse me for living
i'm in a prison and love is the key

if you want, now get together
i said i know i'm not thinking of how

its a mick love song to keith, mick's version of "keith don't go"

don't stop

"don't stop" has been dropped from everybody's setlist...

and sadly "trouble's a coming" now seems doubtful to me.

perhaps it was "living in the heart of love"?

Feels all kinds of nasty that their first show without Charlie was this kind of a private show, more likely in front of no actual fans.

1) story linked says "troubles a coming" will be on Tattoo Deluxe. If true, that's
new (and very welcome) info

2) apparently the official setlist includes it, so for the moment i'll go back to
being ecstatic about it

:

3) IF that really is the official setlist (note: SFM was scratched),
somebody other than chuck leavell put it together !  not chuck's
way of doing it. too sloppy. matt maybe?

according to the internet, here's the chi-lites lyrics, which may have been
altered somewhat by jagger. hopefully the sound on the TATTOO version will be better

I can hear the people talkin'
I can see the people walkin', ah yeah
Troubles a' comin', in more ways than one

May He take me away from here
Lord if I don't have no fear, y'all

Troubles a' comin', y'all
You best believe that ain't all
In more ways than one, woo hoo
Get it together, all right

After givin' all I've givin'
What should I say, excuse me for livin'
'Cause I'm in a prison, and love is the key, woo hoo

Somebody get together
And come on, we gotta make it better
Troubles a' comin', in more ways than one

From the Boston Globe, behind a paywall
(thanks to bye bye johnny via iorr)

“We have been touring with Charlie for 59 years and we miss our great friend and bandmate,” said Jagger.

The guest list Monday included a few familiar faces and a handful of high-rollers.
Governor Charlie Baker and his wife Lauren were there — and, we’re told, had to be
reminded that videos were strictly prohibited — as was J. Geils Band singer Peter Wolf,
Moderna co-founder Noubar Afeyan, UFC boss Dana White, Celtics owner Wyc Grousbeck
and his wife, Cincoro Tequila CEO Emilia Fazzalari, Fanatics CEO and Philadelphia 76ers co-owner
Michael Rubin, Dana-Farber Cancer Institute CEO Laurie Glimcher, Providence Capital’s Jonathan
Nelson, Big Night Entertainment’s Ed Kane, Celtics co-owner Steve Pagliuca, and David Abrams
of Abrams Capital.

The vaccination status of guests is unknown, but we’re told only a few attendees wore a mask.

First performance of '19th Nervous Breakdown' since Madison Square Garden on 13th September 2005. It was only played twice that tour - the other time was the pre-tour club show in Toronto a month earlier. Before THAT show, you have to go back to  Buenos Aires 30th March 1998.

So, only the third performance since March 1998.

That tribute by Steve Jordan by not hitting the hi-hat and snare was beautiful. That said, and maybe it's too soon, but I've never felt uncomfortable watching the Stones except for those clips. Don't want to be too negative but it just looks and sounds wrong without Charlie.

Or... only 3 times this century!!  :D :D :D

I am surprised they didnt play Crazy Mama...that seems to be a semi-private party staple...maybe because they played it last time for the Kraft Kartel.

I hope they play it on tour...along with Emotional Rescue, 19NB and Troubles a'Comin...also would love to see (though little to no chance)...Plundered My Soul...even more than any of these "new songs" rehearsed

I also do not understand this Millionaire bashing...if I had the moneys and 5 million were nothing to me, I would certainly hire them to play for me...and a few other bands as well...maybe on the same nite...maybe not...depends on my rich-ass mood at the time.

Has to be the safest concert of the year.

From my understanding, the monies paid to the band supplemented/sponsored all the rehearsal time and studio space required for the pre-tour preparations.
Seems like a Win-Win-Win for us all

Thats nice but I hope they do a bit more on tour instead of a generic " This show is dedicated to Charlie..."

Thinking (optimistically) there will be a few instances of a photo montage and songs that Charlie REALLY stood out on...

Well that was lovely. Very moving as well that Mick spoke arm in arm with Keith as a nod to all those years together where it was just the 3 of them as the originals, also nice that Ronnie said his bit at the end. Very touching without being corny.

My thoughts based on the clips:

- "Miss You" and "Satisfaction" sound awkward. The grooves aren't there and those are two of Charlie's best. Hopefully Steve develops the right feel in subsequent shows.
- Nice that they did an outtake and "Ghost Town," makes it feel fresh.
- Weird that they opened a show that doesn't feature a signature Keith riff or solo.
- Mick's speech was lovely, and I think it's telling Keith said nothing.
- "19th Nervous Breakdown" sounded great. A perfectly acceptable tempo, strong vocals from Mick, and thank God it's the original arrangement.
- "Jack Flash" sounded rock solid. In general, Keith sounds like he's in shape, maybe he feels the best way to honor Charlie is to emulate his rock steady professionalism and reliability.

Mick was struggling with his voice still from Desert Trip at the last Kraft show, which is likely why Keith got a set. Keith also didn't get a set at the Double Door show in 1997.

Honestly, this is the most emotional moment I've ever watched in the Stones history, counting absolutely everything, bar none.

It hit me like a truck.

Bless their sweet loving hearts, I can't even imagine how it feels. If it hurts so much for us... What a wonderful story, what a unique life they shared. I just can't get over of how emotional it makes me feel, really hits home.

Mick was struggling with his voice still from Desert Trip at the last Kraft show, which is likely why Keith got a set. Keith also didn't get a set at the Double Door show in 1997.

very true.  After the second Desert Trip show, the next gig (in Las Vegas) was cancelled as Mick had laryngitis. The following show (also in Las Vegas) - saw a setlist reduced from 20 songs to 18 with Keith's set increased to 3 songs.  The Kraft show three days later was the final one of that strange mini-tour. and Keith got two songs in a 14-song setlist.

final bow via instagram. i think its appropriate to note that Steve is dead center.
and that mick, ronnie, steve, keith, and darryl are the central 5. there was apparently
no second final bow of the official core group, whoever that might be currently.

its possible, if not probable, that it might be a while until we see our next official

Stoned in Richmond County (said with Peace & Love)...I was at the Bigger Band show with NO Keef set at all...in lieu of a Keef set, we got a bomb threat, audience evacuation, and a delay that seemed like forever...we also got Midnight Rambler added to the set as a consolation.

This was @ Charlottesville VA, October 6, 2006

I love the clips. Of course we're all sad that Charlie is gone, but damn it's great to have the Stones back on the road. Let's celebrate while we can.
