Title: Travellin’ Man - Mick Taylor
Post by wallyzanger on Nov 27th, 2020 at 9:22am
First post so hopefully in right spot. A little backstory then question. Trying to learn Travellin Man. I’ve got that it’s A-G-D-A over and over again but trying to figure out Mick’s lead. He seems to be using A-minor pentatonic plus rolls over the G and D scales (I think). I know right before Mick played the solo jam at the end of CYHMK they had just been listening to Santana and you can hear it in the solo. As it applies to Travellin Man, I’m guessing they were listening to Allman Bros and similar thing happened. So here’s my question: Does anyone know the back story on this track, any hints on the lead and if Mick was inspired by D. Allan?  Thanks!

Welcome Wallyzanger!!

Great first post.
I dont know the answer to your questions as I only pretend to play bass and I only really listen to Emotional Rescue, Undercover sometimes and Goats Head Soup in the car.

Now teach me the bass line of ER and SSC and we can talk...cheers!

Welcome wallyzanger!!!

t was recorded in October 1970 during the Sticky Fingers sessions, Nicky on Piano; has been available as a bootleg since a long time (vinyl times) the most popular bootlegs with it are "the Trident mixes" and "the Trident demos" but the takes are not complete,  too bad the super deluxe Sticky Fingers box didn't include that one

Just as a by-the-by, Voo...  I got Trident Mixes as a double-vinyl album (decades ago I think).
When you say that the takes on it are not complete - do you mean generally, or all of them, or some ones have bits missings, or even that there are other takes than the ones on the 'Trident Mixes' album?

Are owners of that double-album missing some heavy trousers?

Please reply if you know.

I mean the reference song only, Travelin' man is incompleted

It was a work in progress with unfinished lyrics
