Title: When the Stones played paraguayan folk music
Post by Sailor on Aug 24th, 2020 at 11:09am
Here comes something I didn't know until a couple of months ago

On the song "On With the Show", Brian plays a string arrangement that's originally from
the song Pajaro Campana by Felix Perez Cardozo. Although the Stones song features another version done by Luis Alberto Del Paraná Y Los Paraguayos.

This is where Brian starts playing the harp: 1:03

and this is the strings section of Pajaro Campana: 1:30

Pretty cool ain't it?

I don't really think it counts as a sample or if its even enough to credit it, since Brian is not playing the exact same notes but they were definitely inspired by paraguayan Polka

There's more.

Phillips Label distributed their records in Europe, they put out an extended play album and one of the songs that's in it (besides the one I mentioned earlier) is their own version of Malagueña

So considering Keith likes that song a lot, maybe he owned this record.

I can see him bringing it to the studio while recording SMR and, when Brian heard the harp, he decided to include it.

Trivia: In the Rock and Roll Circus, you can hear a song by a Mexican author... who is and what song?

Let's see if someone else has the answer, but it's a song played from a recording, it was not played live
