Title: Interview with Brian's daughter, Barbara. (translated) Post by Sailor on Jul 2nd, 2020 at 2:19pm
This is an interview with Barbara Anna Marion, that was done over the phone in april 2020, for a local radio in Argentina.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zIWdV9YiX4M&t=623s Translated by me: We're gonna have a blast, we're gonna talk to Barbara Anna Marion, Brian Jones's daughter...founder or co-founder, whatever you wanna call him. She lives in Chicago. We have the pleasure of having her in Vinyl's Classics (name of the radio show) -How are you Barbara? it's a pleasure to have you, we're speaking from Comodoro Rivadavia in the argentine Patagonia Barbara Marion: Good morning to all argentine people and a big hello to all Rolling Stones fans!, it's a great pleasure to talk to you all and its good to be interviewed by the charming and talented Cesar Perseis(?) -Oh well, *chuckles* you're being too generous with me but i'm not gonna deny your claims!. We know Spanish is not your mother language but you told us you learned it while living in Costa Rica. I'm gonna speak slowly so you can understand better... anyway your Spanish is perfect, i dare to say it's even better than some argentines Q:What does it mean for you to be Brian Jones daughter? maybe it's a tough question...or it's hard to explain. A: It is hard to explain... I've never met Brian, he passed away when i was 4 months old. I live in America with my mom and It surprised me when she told me, but at the same time it made sense. Sometimes i was angry about certain things and sometimes i felt sad because i didn't get to know him...but now it's just who i am, nothing more. -We're talking with Barbara Marion, Brian's daughter so i hope you're all paying attention to her. Q: Tell me Barbara, do you have any objects, be it clothes or something that once belonged to Brian? A: Sadly no!, two or three years ago i tried buying something from a person that claimed to have Brian's stuff but it turned out he didn't have anything...it were only lies from some liar, i payed him but i didn't receive jack shit (lol) but that's how life is and it's also how the internet is, right? Q: I would like to ask you, what do you think Brian meant for the Rolling Stones back then and what do you think it means now, and what do you think was Brian's contribution to 60's music? A: Brian was the leader of the Stones, he named them, he got them gigs, he chose what songs to play. No Jones no Stones, man. And people forget that, they think about the Stokes as Mick and Keith, and that's absolutely wrong, Brian was one of the first slide players in England and he took it from American players. Brian's contribution helped to shape rock and roll as we know it today. -We're listening to Barbara Marion, she was born in 1969.... we're giving away your age.... sorry Barbara...*he starts rambling* Q: Do you feel that his band mates, Mick, Keith, Wyman, Charlie....do you think they gave him proper recognition? A: No. I don't think his band mates gave him enough credit. I think they wanna forget about him, they don't speak highly of him.... i understand it wasn't easy to live with him, but it seems to me they only want to portray him as an unstable person, when in fact he was the one who created the band. -Well Barbara, to me its a real pleasure to be talking to you, it's not common to talk with a Rolling Stone daughter and its even more uncommon to do in Spanish! I thank you for accepting this interview. There's many people listening over the radio and on the website too. We talked about this earlier but you can tell the audience... Q:When did you find out you were her daughter and what are you current thoughts of him? A: My mom told me in April of 2002, so it was eighteen years ago. She was diagnosed with terminal cancer and she wanted to tell me about my origins. When my mom told me I didn't know who he was at first, I knew the Rolling Stones but i didn't know Brian Jones... I had to google him. Well, I think Brian's music was really good and colorful, he played many unusual instruments, the ones you wouldn't normally use in rock and roll songs. I love Ruby Tuesday for his use of the recorder, i don't know how to say it in Spanish, but in English the word is recorder. I love Lady Jane, the one where he played the dulcimer, and I love Under My Thumb, he played marimbas and Paint It Black where he played citar... my favorite Stones song is No Expectations... his guitar track is ethereal, it's sad and pretty at the same time.... its very nice. *the guy rambles about Brian's death* and then asks: Q:Do you think Brian had an accident or that he was killed? A: I don't think he died in the pool because of drugs and alcohol. I believe it was one of his employees that killed him, i think Frank Thorogood did it. Q: I would like you to tell me about yourself. A: Okay, my mom came back to America in December of 1968. So I was born in Cincinnati, Ohio, then i grew up in Chicago. My life has been very interesting, very rich, I have five sons and two grandsons. I play multiple instruments and I enjoy it a lot. I am an hypnotherapist and i help people with eating disorders. Then the video is cut off but they say goodbye and the interview is done. There's also another interview (this time in english) in which she talks about how she found out she was Brian's daughter: http://www.classicbands.com/BarbaraAnneMarionInterview.html |

Voo and Sailor -
I'm pretty rough with my Spanish and the eating disorder aspect wasn't explored in the English interview. More interesting than the seeming idea that Mick & Keith want to delete/ignore Brian from the Stones history (which I doubt) is whether one of Brian's offspring had such issues herself after 'abandonment' by her father, or rather whether or not having a father to connect with after she came off the tit, or once in puberty was trauumatic. This topic is al a bit Freudian but was that - or the psychological aspect in general - at all covered in the Spanish-language interview? And was it said whether Bill Wyman (for years the room mate of Jones) met/contacted her, like he did decently with some of Brian's other offspring? I'm a dodgy Spanish-hearer. Was there much to be said about Brian's psychology and Stones-related thangs, other than the old questions about the Farm and the pool and of Stones 'rivalry'/ the Stones moving on? It would be interesting to know what else was covered/not covered by Barbara. Was it the usual questions, or was she allowed to speak about a variety of things? Be well. |

I added a translation on the first message.
It's the usual questions, she doesn't talk much about herself. maybe she did suffer from ED when she was a teenager. I liked the part in which she mentions her favorite songs. |

She seems to handle it all pretty relaxed.
Obviously not searching the spotlights. Nice read, Sailor. Thanks for posting. |

Not to sound negative, but this interviewer asked her nothing. We learn nothing about Brian, her Mother, NOTHING.
How about asking her some of these questions: 1. When you were young, what did your Mother tell you about your Father? 2. Why do you think your Mother withheld your Father's identity for so long? 3. How did your Mother meet Brian, and why did she move before you were born? |

Yeah it definitely wasn't done well. It seems to me he talked way more than she did.
Maybe this forum could contact her, it would be pretty cool and I bet she would accept. |

I don't find anything about her to be interesting because she has no information to share. Her Mother's silence on Brian isn't helping matters any.
Is everyone buying that she is Brian's daughter? |

She had to google Brian to find out about him. That is so sad and tragic. Even though her father died as a baby and her mother was secretive, I believe she is the real deal because she defends his legacy - Hell yes, she is right in her assessment, No Jones, No Stones!

There are lots of people who defend Brian's legacy.
I do find it interesting that the earliest mention of her being Brian's daughter is from last year during the meeting at Brian's grave. From 2002 to 2019 she kept it private. I wonder what her Mother told her before 2002. It seems like she was kept in the dark way too long about her birth Father. |

Hey! I’m late to this party. Someone just pointed this thread out to me.
I have been around since probably 2006. Here is a better interview with me. This time in English. https://imbalancedhistory.com/2020/09/14/the-brian-jones-project-blog/ |
