June 20, 1980, another date in Stones history that reminds me how fast the years have past.

I love the album, underrated by many

The correct dates areš
  • June 20: The first single Emotional Rescue bw/Down in the Hole (today's header)
  • June 22: Emotional Rescue in the UK
  • June 23: Emotional Rescue in the USA
  • September 19: The second single She's so cold bw/Send it to me
Wikipedia is wrong, they are giving the same date for the single and the album, probably rollingstones.com checked wikipedia

Today's header is the Mexican version

Its a great SOUNDING album, as are all the ones around that time where they worked with Chris Kimsey.

Time has been kind to it, but it's a solid, if unspectacular collection of songs, with (unlike the albums that immediately preceded and followed it) few real standouts.

'Where the boys go' has always been my favourite song on it, although I also think 'If I Was a Dancer' (released later on as opposed to the 'Dance Pt 1' which opens the album) is maybe the funkiest thing they've ever done. Absolutely sublime.

Going to be listening to Emotional Rescue this afternoon, while having a few beers and washing the car! I have been a huge fan of this album since it came out. Hope the neighbours think it as great sounding as Gazza does!!  ;D Man time flies.

Very underrated album. Two lesser considered tracks that are standouts:

1. Let Me Go. Only the Stones can make a song sound slightly country when it's not country. Charlie's drumming is magic.

2. Down in the Hole. A Ronnie Wood composed classic, appropriate cold war lyrics, and great harp.

Someone once said, "Emotional Rescue does more before noon than most records do all day."

I agree. This is a party record. Perfect for the summer.

Keith had a rockabilly sound going on many of the tunes...Let Me Go, Summer Romance for example....

Bobby makes the song - Emotional Rescue. The video has some cute shots of the young lads. So sweet!

RS is selling a capsule collection, another way for us to spend money on the new old material! Its a probably not for me.

Is it crazy of me to own two copies of Emotional Rescue? I say no. Besides, I wanted a copy of the album with the poster.

Some people claimed this song should have been finished and replaced Indian Girl on the album. Those people were wrong.

"ER" has always just been okay for me.

"Dance Pt. 1," "Let Me Go," the title song, "Down in the Hole "She's So Cold" and "All About You" are all great, great songs. "Send it to Me" is enjoyable. The rest does nothing for me.

I agree with many cognoscenti that "Indian Girl" is the worst Stones song of all time (punctuated by Mick's unintentionally hilarious vocals, especially at the end). "Summer Romance" is uncomfortably sleazy and disgusting, even by Stones standards. "Where the Boys Go" has a nice solo, but that's it.

It's never stood out to me as a top tier album, and there are several mid-tiers I'd put ahead of it. Sandwiched between "Some Girls" and "Tattoo You" doesn't help it much, either.

Poor man eyes a rich man

Denigrates his property

A rich man eyes a poor man

And envies his simplicity
