Title: Any silly Stones lyrics? Post by Freya Gin on Jun 3rd, 2020 at 6:18pm
Ii heard people talking today about how songwriters don't like their work being posted on lyrics sites. I reflected that some might dislike it so much because they'd prefer that no one could be certain of what they wrote. Maybe they feel like they're being coned.
As many Stones songs as there are-- call me a bad fangirl if you want but I don't know them all-- there has to be one or tow with some silly or sketchy lyrics. Do you know of any? Hey, it might be entertaining. |

Many, probably all
Today, lyrics like Stray Cat Blues would be banned Would be trending in all social media as perverted writting, probably would detonate investigation by the FBI LOL |

Yesterday Papers sounds like something Elmo from Sesame Street would sing, but i still like it:
"Who wants yesterday's papers? who wants yesterday's girls? who wants yesterday's papers?...nobody in the world". |

Start Cat's lyrics aren't silly at all. Probably the silliest is "sharks will cry..."

I think I threadcapped with my response. There may not be a lamer Stones lyric than "Sharks will cry..."

There's no debate. "Sharks will cry" is the worst, followed by the unimaginative "I wanna fuck your sweet ass!" from the same song.

Stu's piano is wonderful, but if he wasn't playing on it, this would be right up there with sparks will fly, sharks will cry, and as a song is certainly a bigger piece of shite:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=S3O8QYPNCQs Streets of Shite always gets a special mention. Blinded by Rainbows has some God awful moments. |

Note to self: if you ever meet the Stones in person, be sure to mock them for that"sharks will cry" line. ;D

Let's not be tooo liiteral.
Quite a few Stoads lyrical lines have more than one meaning, surely. One definition of sharks crying is lawyers crying, which presumably they (the lawyers) would have done if they discovered Mick and Jerry having 'hot sexy time' during a build-up to a divorce / having argy-bargy arguments after tour shenanigans / discovering that the latter couple weren't officially married - in the western sense - anyway. Or Or was the song title in fact about Ron & Russell Mael flapping & wafting through the air? This is a question that should be asked when encountering a member of the Stoads[i] or indeed Sparks. |

A bit different, but I hate how 99.99999% of the time in concert Mick sings "looks like a burning carpet" instead of "burns like a red coal carpet" in "Gimme Shelter" live; the original lyric is so vivid and ominous whereas the alternative is just bland and leaves little to the imagination.

INDIAN GIRL, anyone?
Little Indian girl, where is your mama? Little Indian girl, where is your papa? He's fighting in the war in the streets of Masaya All the children were dead, except for the girl who said Please Mister Gringo, please find my father [Chorus] Lesson number one that you learn while you're young Life just goes on and on getting harder and harder Little Indian girl, from Nueva, Granada Little Indian girl, from Nueva, Granada [Verse 2] Ma says there's no food, there's nothing left in the larder Last piece of meat was eaten by the soldiers that raped her [Chorus] Lesson number one that you learn while you're young Life just goes on and on getting harder and harder[x2] Little Indian girl, from Nueva, Granada Little Indian girls, from Nueva, Granada [Outro] Yes, I saw them today. It's a sight I would say They're shooting down planes with their M-16 and with laughter Mr. Gringo, my father he ain't no Che Guevara And he's fighting the war on the streets of Masaya Little Indian girl where is your father? Indian girl where is your momma? They're fighting for Mr. Castro in the streets of Angola |

Hmmm. No offense, WoaF but... I'm not buying it. It sounds to me like they just couldn't come up with a better 3-syllable rhyme. I'm still going to mock them. :P And PA, Indian Girl always sounded very sad to me. |

Yes it's very sad. And very lovely.
And what is extra cheering is that someone who's not a father understands 'Indian Girl'. Happy days. |
