Title: Keith's Best Guitar Moments of the 21st Century Post by StonedInStatenIsland on Mar 21st, 2020 at 7:40am
[I saw this on another forum (I think IORR) and wanted to discuss it here as well.]
Specifically, from 2012 onward, but you can go back further if you'd like. Keith's playing has definitely been inconsistent and often cringeworthy in recent years, but there's always moments where he shines brightly and becomes the Keith we know and love. So any solos, rhythmic playing, tone, etc. that stand out for you. Some that stand out for me: - Atlantic City 2006 (the whole show Keith was on fire, but especially "She Was Hot" and "She's So Cold") - "It's All Over Now" (Werchter 2014) - "Out of Control" (Havana Moon) - "Gimme Shelter" throughout the 2019 tour. |

WWWWWWWTTTFFFFFFFFFF? I was at AC...the entire show stands out as a Top 10 for me. SWH was great since it was the first time heard my 99.9% of the audience (except for those who froze at Soldier Field for the premiere). That show had the best ADTL ever IMO as well a a scorching (yes, that's right, scorching) SOL. BUF 2015 - CYSMK DUB 2018 - SFTD Come to mind |

He's been shining on the acoustic. Sister Morphine from the Fonda comes to mind.
Listening to Sticky Fingers live a lot lately and the whole band is in wonderful form. I got the blues is just great. Considering how much they struggled with keeping their slow songs slow during the years before, they absolutely nailed it. The sticky fingers movie and album took me to the level I expected and hoped SAL would. |

Gimme Shelter in Atlanta 2015 was the best of 45 live versions I have heard. Powerful and sublime!

Paint It Black and all of Pittsburgh 2015. The band were turned up very loud that night - louder than Buffalo, to the point where the amplification clipped a few times. Guitars were mixed right up front, probably audible blocks away. So very good for hearing Keith be very good.
Midnight Rambler at Buffalo 2015 was epic for both Keith and Ronnie. |

This show has its ups and downs, but when it delivers, it delivers right on time. Keith good on Satisfaction, despite Mick Taylor suffering some kind of sonic d*ck problem that needs explaining to both guitarists c. 2:15:00. Like he couldn't just fake playing guitar for two minutes. |

Listening to more shows Keith really nailed "Gimme Shelter" for the most part in 2019...in fact the best song of that tour was "GS." Those are easily the best versions since Lisa left (and honestly maybe the best since Babylon).
Keith was absolutely on fire for the two 02 shows in 2012..especially night 2. |

There's a new remaster out of the Glastonbury show that really brings out Keith's guitar; I think this show is his best of the 2010's. He's really on fire throughout, especially on "Sympathy" which has two solos that are as good as any he's laid down post-Wyman.
Some other moments that come to mind: - "She's So Cold" Paris 2017. Keith charges into it like a freight train and leads the band throughout. Great weaving throughout, too. - Keith was great during the Zip Code tour. Pittsburgh has been mentioned, but Kansas City is also an excellent show with a very strong set list, as is that Detroit show with that great set list. He's cranked on both of them and churning out monster riffs. - The two Perth shows in 2014 are excellent and feature some very strong playing from Keith. "Sympathy" is excellent both nights and the second "Gimme Shelter" is one of the best live versions I've ever heard. |

KEEF can still rock anybody's socks off! Sure he fvcks up sometimes, but that's the beauty of a live show, I embrace the imperfections, the surprise of a wrong start or a bum note sparks up a WTF? moment. It's fun and funny because most of the crowd doesn't even notice these little things but we obsess over it. Because when we put him under a microscope, you can notice the flaws.

Just listened to "Cross-Eyed Heart" again, "Substantial Damage" has some of Keith's nastiest, crunchiest riffs of the decade.

Yes Atlantic City 2006 was great! I also like Perth 2014 (Worried about you, Before They Make Me Run...) Keith Was really On Fire for most of The "On Fire" Tour. There's also Marseille 2018, a perfect show! Chicago 2019 is a great bootleg (try headphones, the stereo mix is marvelous. The new laid back "arrangements" are excellent, specially for the acoustic set. It's cool to hear Keith straight & strong at last. :D

Yes, I absolutely love those two Perth shows; as I mentioned earlier his playing on "Gimme Shelter" and "Sympathy for the Devil" made for some of the best modern day versions of the tour. In fact that was I believe the last tour where Keith's "SFTD" solos were actually fluid and continuous.
Yea, 2019 was probably Keith's best tour in a long time. I like the setup with Ronnie taking most of the leads and Keith just nailing his signature moments and playing some really great rhythm. The band sounded so crisp last year and those IEMs that emerged have a wonderful sound to them. Keith's guitar tone was gorgeous last year, and Charlie's snare sounded punchier as well. |

Let's kick the virus outta here so we can get back to rock and roll shows. I need a Stones fix so bad.

"Sad Sad Sad" from Chicago 1 last year has one of the cleanest Keith solos of the 21st century. Killer Chuck licks.
