Rolling Stones guitarist Keith Richards is set to induct guitarist Scotty Moore into the Memphis Music Hall of Fame on Saturday night. Moore backed Elvis Presley throughout his early years, including on the singer’s groundbreaking Sun Studio recordings “That’s Alright Mama” and “Mystery Train,” in addition to his RCA hits “Jailhouse Rock,” “Hound Dog,” “Blue Suede Shoes” and “Heartbreak Hotel.” Richards has often said those early Elvis singles had a lasting impact on his relationship with music. “The [record] that really turned me on, like an explosion one night, listening to Radio Luxembourg on my little radio when I was supposed to be in bed and asleep, was ‘Heartbreak Hotel’. That was the stunner,” Richards said in his 2010 memoir Life. Moore will be joined in this year’s MMHoF class by Memphis native Justin Timberlake, who will be inducted by longtime friend and Tonight Show host Jimmy Fallon. The duo have collaborated on numerous televised skits on Saturday Night Live and the Tonight Show, including “History of Rap” and “The Barry Gibb Talk Show.” Other inductees this year are Alberta Hunter, Al Jackson, Jr., Scotty Moore, Charlie Rich, and Sam & Dave. They will join a who’s who of Southern musicians who are already members of the MMHoF, including Elvis Presley, Johnny Cash, BB King, Jerry Lee Lewis, Isaac Hayes and Howlin’ Wolf. Musicians including Melanie Fiona, Tracy Nelson, Charlie Rich, Jr., Jim Keltner, Steve Jordan and Steve Cropper are all scheduled to perform at that event, which will be held at The Cannon Center in downtown Memphis. |

I just sorta assumed this was the Memphis HoF's 2nd year in business... Maybe it's cause he was born in a suburb...voters hate those |

I have a copy of the great CD "All The Kings Men" that Scotty signed for me a few years ago. Hope Keith is there and not a video intro etc. Anyone in the area check out the Rendezvous rib joint the night before or day of.....Keith's fave spot to eat in Memphis......

I have never heard of Scotty Moore, but I think its cool that Keef thinks enough of him to make this appearance and induct him.
In that clip I thought Keef fell again...I was like OMG!! Thats the end... also, i was glad that RS.com FINALLY thought enough of this to make a fucking update...that has got to be the LAMEST website...the mods totally out of touch. |

he was actually his main guitarist up to the early 60's and played with him again (along with original drummer DJ Fontana) on the 1968 NBC-TV Special. It would be the last time they ever met. |

The best way to get to know Scotty Moore? The 'Hound Dog' guitar solo. That is bad ass guitar tone for 1956. If that grabs you, keep down that path and head towards Paul Burlison & 'Train Kept Rollin' with the Johnny Burnette Trio. That too is either '56 or '57 dirt - still fantastic nearly 60 years later.
