Title: Social Distortion
Post by robpop on Jul 18th, 2015 at 5:11am
US tour starts in one week.  Anybody else going?  One of the best bands on the planet IMO.  And they can cover the Stones better than anybody.   <iframe width="560" height="315" src="https://www.youtube.com/embed/OVpzeUXfdQU" frameborder="0" allowfullscreen></iframe>

I flew over to London to see them at Shepherds Bush Empire two months ago. They were utterly brilliant as always.

Agree totally. Just simply one of the best bands on the planet.  Any rock n roll fan who doesnt know them is really missing out on something special.

The cover of 'Wild Horses' they did that night worked surprisingly well.

Here's the tour dates. Go and see them if they play anywhere near you. You're in for a treat. Great rock 'n' roll.

Houston on my birthday!

Some people like to rock n roll but you're always singing the blues...

I've seen them twice before. I'll see them in Bend, Oregon in September.

How do you not love that band?  Rock and roll, 100%.

I love em. There are very few bands who are true to their music and their roots. They represent everything about rock and roll that I love. Can't get enough of them.

Love them as well. Seen them twice. First was real good. Second not so much. But Mike Ness was sick that night, so I'll give them a pass on that one. Seen Mike guest with Springsteen about 3 times. Always brings it. Love their last studio album. Hard Times And Nursery Rhymes.

My buddy is their sound guy and also a fan, he said this new tour has been the best…

Saw them in 1988 on the Prison Bound tour. Their cover of Under My Thumb is great. They also covered Backstreet Girl.

On one hand, I wonder why Social D isn't more popular......

On the other hand, I love the fact I can see them in great, smaller venues.

So true!  I saw them years back at the Ice Garden in Rostraver, PA.  A total shithole, but when the lights when out it was magic.  Mike still jokes about that place when he comes back to Pittsburgh.

Before the concert, there was an impromptu hot rod and custom car show in the parking lot.  Mike came out the check out all the rides.  A few fans wanted to talk about music with him, but he was only interested in the cars.

Its really strange - when you see how huge Green Day became (similar genre, but IMO a pretty ordinary band)

I just think they've never really pushed themselves commercially and Ness presumably is happy enough to be a 'cult act' (thankfully, no dreary crossover power ballads like GD). After all, they never did national TV in the US until they did Jimmy Kimmel about four years ago - and that was despite being around for about 30 years.

Well, one great rock and roll band was and still is playing all the songs from one of their most popular albums live this tour.  It also looks like they will start recording a new album by the end of the year!

Excellent show as expected.  I was close to the front center stage for most of the show, which I'll never do again.  I'm too old to be kicked in the head by crowd surfers, or have beer spiiled as over me by slam dancers.  Next time I'll retreat to the lawn, and have a seat there.

Meh. I did all that three years ago this week in Dublin.

Taking up slam dancing at the age of 49 is pretty surreal. Even more so when you're a shortarse.

Just curious, here it appears that most of the mosh pit slammers at Social D shows are motorcycle gang bangers. Is that the case also in Europe????

No biker gang bangers in the pitt at Pitt.  Just a bunch of drunken punk-ass kids.

I've seen them three times. Once in Dublin (2012) and twice at Shepherds Bush in London (2011 and 2015). Hard to make a generalisation from the Dublin crowd, but in London it was predominantly older punks and skinheads.

I was seated at the London shows, but from what I saw before, during and after the gigs, they seemed a much friendlier bunch than their appearance suggested.

They tend to mostly play festival dates in Europe though so I guess its not really 'their' audience.

Some quality mentalists at this German festival from 2009, though.

not really that well known in the UK at all, mate.  They seem to be a bit more popular in places like Germany.

A bit of a cult act in the US I would presume - especially in California.

Here's the last album they did :
