Title: Skeptical Post by 10drum on Apr 8th, 2015 at 1:27pm
Ok, My son 23 wanted for his birthday to see the Rolling Stones. I have just purchased tickets for the show in Kansas City. I am a die hard Stones fans I learned how to play drums listening to Charlie Watts when I was in Jr High. I've seen them 3 times 72, 89, & 99. They were great every time especially in 72 which is still the greatest show I have ever seen. I still play drums and guitar, I can still play golf, but I'm not what I use to be in any of them. Has anyone seen them lately and in the past? How do they compare? Thanks for all replies.

Welcome to the breakfast show, Drum! Please tell us your thoughts about Emotional Rescue, Mick Taylor vs Ronnie and which is the worst influence on the youth of today, Bon Jovi or Obama.
I've only seen them twice, in '89 and '06, but both shows were great. However, they left Gomper off the set list both times for some strange reason. Stick around as long as you'd like, provided you put the toilet seat up when you pee and don't steal any bandwith or call anyone's boss. |

Edith, we're going, I just hope he enjoys it. He's always ask what's the best concert I've ever seen? I always answer, The Stones. Jerry Lee Lewis at the Cains Ballroom was a close 2nd, go figure.
Ok Starbuck, emotional rescue wasn't their greatest album, Exile on main street is, Tumblin Dice is my favorite stones song, best hook ever. But ER wasn't bad. Mick Taylor was a great lead guitar player and the stones lost that when he left, but I like the Stones for their rhythm, their hooks, and Charlie's left hand. I was a big Faces fan also so Ronnie is just fine with me. I never saw the Faces, they played Wichita the same day in 72 when we saw the Stones in Fort Worth, we were gonna go there if we couldn't get stones tickets, I grew up in OKC. Obama |

We only live once --maybe--, so go and --hopefully-- you and your son will have a great time.
I've seen them only once, like ten years ago, and it was a nice experience. [The only concert I've attended. From anybody]. Charlie Watts was elegantly perfect, as usual; Jagger was is usual self; I don't remember a lot about Ronnie, but he was there doing his musical thing; and I sang out loud to the chorus of Keith's "This Place Is Empty," to the annoyance/amusement of some young people sitting nearby me. And I was a little bit drunk. And I met other Stones' fans, which was great; one of the nicest recent memories. Anyhow, the band won't last forever. So go and enjoy the moment. |

You've passed the diehard test by using one of the working titles of the album in question. I'm jealous that you got to see The Killer at his peak AND The Stones in 72. By all means, go. It'll be a great experience to share with your son and while its obviously not 1972 anymore, they're still a great live act. I saw my 50th show in Berlin last summer and they can still most definitely cut it. Welcome to Rocks Off! |

Thanks Gazza, that's what I hoping to hear. The Stones and the Killer have something that other performers I've seen don't have, the ability to cast a spell on their audience. Someone ask Keith, do you ever get stage fright, and he responded "It's more like, open the cage". That may say it all.

I took my Dad to a show in 2005, flew from SF-Philly… spent a bit of coin, it was worth it… just being with your kid at a Stones show will be awesome, and they perform a great show… they are 100% professional.

You will not be disappointed at all.
No doubt you will notice differences from '99. BUT still a top notch show. They remain amazing. |

Speaking of Skeptical, I hope the news reports out of San Diego are incorrect....that the show completely sold out and there will be no general sale....hope its just some reporter that didn't do his or her research....

If you are lucky enough to have a son who wants to see The Stones with you, do it and it will be an experience he will never forget and you will never regret. Sure they are not what they used to be, but the show very professionally done from years of experience, and both you and your son will be impressed.

I took my 17 year old niece to her first show in 1989. Seats 1-4 center floor row 11. I still can see the wide eyed look on her face.
We have seen them 8 more times together, 4 here in H town and 4 on the road, the last being 2 years ago in Chicago. When I told her we are going to do it again, she was just as excited as ever. I'm taking her to Dallas this time, wishing I could handle taking her to the 2 other shows I'm attending. You will be making deposits in the memory bank as we have all these years. It doesn't get any better. Rick Respect the music, the rest is easy. |
