I have an active interest in gerontology. It seems that the oldest person dies every few months or so, no? I wonder why that is.....

There are now only four known people left alive that were born in the 19th century.

I suppose because when you get to about 116, a week extra is a pretty long time!

The American woman who succeeded her as the oldest person in the world five days ago has just died!
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Gertrude_Weaver

Only three left from the 19th century now

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_oldest_living_people

the top 34 are all women.

the percentage of supercentarians that are from US and (especially) Japan is quite staggering.

I've heard the population of Okinawa and other Japanese islands tends to have the longest living populace in general. A diet of fish, seaweed and kelp is very healthful apparently.
