Title: Any know of John Lennon saying this about the Stones (I could be wrong though)
Post by steel driving hammer on May 1st, 2014 at 8:17am
RIP.

When Yoko broke up the band or they broke themselves I think / vaguely remember reading John Lennon said the Rolling Stones can't make it on their own, they need a band.

IMO, that' is a Rock and Roll band and God Bless The Rolling Stones.

IMO, he mentioned that because the Beatles broke up and the Stones were (AND STILL) rolling and the Beatles and may be depressed / jealous and cynical perhaps.

-

On another note, don't you HATE the tv talent shows like The Voice or American Idol.

First of all, I don't like the music on those shows PLUS there is NEVER IS A BAND PLAYING along w/ the singer.

They are singing along to a tape recorder and what type of talent or music is that???

Cheers.

Stones STILL rule.

Why am I wrong my brother?

I'm relatively sure I remember John saying that.

It was a LONG time ago.

Not to argue my brother but just because they talked or sung a few songs with them doesn't mean he never said that.

I love debating because the truth will always come out.

Gazza??? Where are you...

The Voice on NBC has the contestants singing along with a house band...not a tape.

A very sterile and emotionless house band. In fact I had a drum machine back in my studio days called the Sequential Tom. It had more feeling then the Voice house band...but anyway, they deserve credit...

Paul Mirkovich (Band Director)
A Los Angeles native, Paul Mirkovich is the musical director for "The Voice" house band. As musical director, Paul is in charge of putting the perfect band together, and he knew exactly where to turn. Having previously worked with Sasha Krivtsov, Nate Morton and Rafael Moreira for many years, he reached out to these same musicians when it came time to form a new band. Aside from "The Voice," Paul also does musical directing for artists such as Pink and Cher, where he gets to help put their live shows together. He draws influence from musicians from all walks of life including Chopin, Gershwin, Led Zeppelin and Joni Mitchell. Paul has over 30 years of experience working in music, from touring to TV shows to session work. He thoroughly enjoys working with "The Voice" house band and loves that he knows exactly what he will do each day - creating the best arrangements that will suit singers in the most positive way.

Well then according to you I am wrong,

But I NEVER see the band, the drums, guitar, bass piano or even drums on that tv show.

Just that singer

I Can't believe those shows are so popular,

You seem smart but you didn't mentioned if John Lennon mention said that about my favorite band since I was 11.

I think you're referring to Lennon's 1980 Playboy interview.

'Why are those guys still together? Can't they hack it on their own? Why do they have to be surrounded by a gang? Is the little leader scared somebody's gonna knife him in the back?' That's gonna be the question. That's-a-gonna be the question! They're gonna look back at the Beatles and the Stones and all those guys as relics. The days when those bands were just all men will be on the newsreels, you know. They will be showing pictures of the guy with lipstick wriggling his ass and the four guys with the evil black make-up on their eyes trying to look raunchy. That's gonna be the joke in the future, not a couple singing together or living and working together. It's all right when you're 16, 17, 18 to have male companions and idols, OK? It's tribal and it's gang and it's fine. But when it continues and you're still doing it when you're 40, that means you're still 16 in the head.

And just because here's a picture

I think you are right...I have the transcripts of those interviews...I need to thumb thru them to check...it does sound correct to me though. I know that Lennon says that he is pretty sure Jagger took his song "Bless You", sped it up and it morphed into "Miss You"...http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QfkNJV128-w&feature=kp

I have a first edition signed copy by the interviewer...David Sheff

John Lennon said a lot of things about a lot of things...I'm still sifting through the interesting parts but I am unable to directly answer the question with any wherewithal at this time...

Lennon was a genius but also an a-hole in many ways. Him and Yoko putting that busted teacup back together on Mike Douglas show was hilarious. Pompous ass. Then Yoko yodling her voice over Chuck Berry.....geeesh

Don't know much about Lennon, and never had the slightest interest in Lennon-Ono other than cringing and averting my eyes every time I see that famous photo of the two of them.  I had no idea she was such a one person train wreck until this thread.

What the fuck was the poor guy thinking here?  Good grief.

Live Aid was my 'what the fuck' moment. I couldn't understand who's mother this woman pulled from the surf in order to gain stage time...

I'm still putting that part of my life back together...my missing pieces are everywhere

if you don't see it, than of course… you're right… the real question is, why are you watching the show!!!
and, yes, it's a house band… even I have seen them, and I watched the show a few times one season like the first or second season…

how you mixed this in with a Lennon quote, however, is SDH briliance mixed with the same mental illness I also have…
