Roger Daltrey wants Rolling Stones at cancer charity shows

Roger Daltrey is hoping the Rolling Stones and Led Zeppelin will play at his Teenage Cancer Trust shows.

The Who rocker organises a week of gigs at London's Royal Albert Hall to raise money for the charity every year, and the two legendary groups always top his wish-list and, although they haven't yet appeared, he insists they haven't ruled it out either.

Asked who he would love to perform at the shows, he said: ''I've tried to get the Stones for years. They've never given me a no. I asked again this year but they're in Australia.
''Imagine The Rolling Stones in the Royal Albert Hall, where they can be the Stones they were in 1963, a great British blues band, rather than tarty, farty and running around the stage.

''After that, Led Zeppelin with Jason Bonham. That's still not out the window.

''Pink Floyd of course. Then you get down to the U2s.''

Roger has recently been working on an album with Wilko Johnson - who has terminal cancer - and he admits he was terrified when they first entered the recording studio together.

He told Q magazine: ''We met at an awards ceremony three years ago and realised we'd both been inspired by Johnny Kidd & The Pirates. That was the common thing.

''Wilko and I did try and get some new songs together but it all fell apart and I had to go and do Who tours.

''Then when I heard about Wilko's situation, I sent a message; 'Tell him I'll sing anything, 'Three Blind Mice', if I have to.' So we did some Feelgood songs.

''The first day in the studio I was a nervous wreck. When Pete [Townsend] gives me a song, I know what to do. With Wilko, I didn't want to copy Dr. Feelgood. I had to work out what I had to do.''

Actually, my opinion on this is more $$$ should go twards cancer than aids.

Cancer you can't prevent, but aids are preventable, which is common sense.

Wear a rubber or don't share needles - that's all...

More thought on this...

The Stones are playing in Israel for Peace w/ the  Palestinians.

Pete Townshend should stop looking at child porn (remember that, he said he was writing a book about it when he got busted.

So Pete, 5 years later..., where is the book???

I love The Who but come on, the Stones are STILL touring the planet for God's sake and where is the Who.

Just about forgotten by todays' youth actually even though some of their songs WERE pretty good.

The Stones arent 'playing for peace' for anyone ffs. How's that going to work? They're playing (if they do) for about $4 million. Nothing else.

Where is the book?

Are you for real?

It came out about 15 months ago. How the fuck did you miss it? It was a bestseller.

It was actually proven and accepted by the police that he wasnt 'looking at child porn' . Try reading chapter 29 & 30 of said 'book'. Explains it quite thoroughly.

and er..The Who have played more shows in the last year and a half than the Stones have done.

Yeah that's the book but it has  no reference about it at all.

It's just his life my brother, come one, he got busted and was let go.

But he does rock, he learned his famous windmill strum from we/our own master, Keith.

Maybe I'll check it our at the library, but I would never buy it when I can just read it fore free.

Somebody has obviously torn the pages out of your copy. Like, all of them.

Oh wait, you just admitted in your next post that you havent read it.

I'll defer to your superior insight into something you havent actually read - just like I'll defer to your belief that such a book was never published in the first place and a band I saw live just a few months ago hasnt toured for years.
