I've never been on a forum before and thought I would give it a go to get my story out there and feedback from fellow Stones fans.

In 1990, my friend and I were travelling through Europe and the UK, we are from Australia, we heard that the Stones were going to be playing Wembley Stadium on their Urban Jungle World Tour. As my friend knew how much of a massive Stones tragic I was, she offered to buy tickets as a birthday gift.

So off we went to the Virgin Megastore in Oxford Street, London to buy our tickets, at the counter we asked the guy that we wanted 2 tickets to the Rolling Stones concert, he told us he would need to check this and disappeard out the back only to come back out with a TV crew and us being told that we had bought the 5 millionth tickets for the Urban Jungle world tour and the prize being that we would meet the band members before the concert, we didn't even know that there was a competition on.

The prize included that we were to be picked up by a limo and go to a meet and greet function before the concert plus great seats for the show, we couldn't believe our luck! We were interviewed on TV, radio and featured in the newspapers, I still have the clipping - the news even reached Australian radio.

Wow, what a fantastic prize, we had only been in the UK for 3 days, so we had a couple of months touring around Europe before coming back to London for the July 14 concert, this was to be the big finale to our holiday as we were to fly back home in the following days after the concert. The afternoon of the concert we received a phone call to say that the concert had been cancelled due to Keith Richards having an infected finger (Google it - it is true) and that the concert would be moved to a date in August, a date that we could not make as we would be back in Australia.

So that was 24 years ago, I have never forgotten that moment....  The Rolling Stones are touring Australia in March and I have bought myself 1 ticket, yes, I am going by myself because that was all that was available and I thought why could we not try and claim our prize here in Sydney, Australia? But how do I do it? Which is why I thought I would join this forum to see if any other Stones fans would have any feedback on what I could do.

I must admit I am not good with social media - something I try and avoid but if it gets me a chance to get the prize then why not give it a go!!!

< ---- I am so glad the show is almost Sold Out  . Many gigs in the states last year were " Wide Open " ( See : Anaheim II  & Chicago III ) .  Oh , and Philly II  ( VERY Wide Open   [ Paris Hilton Style  ]  )  .

Fascinating story. I doubt there's any chance of the prize being honoured, unfortunately. Unless you go down the route of taking the story to the promoter or local newspaper in the hope that the sheer wackiness of it might somehow get through to the Stones organisation and they might see it as a good way of generating positive publicity. You never know.

The band postponed three shows as a result of Keith's perforated finger. The show in Cardiff scheduled for July 9 was moved to July 16 (a date already vacated by a show scheduled for Dublin which I had tickets for and which had already been cancelled for spurious logistical reasons - which were in reality low ticket sales) and the Wembley shows scheduled for July 13 and 14 were moved to the very end of the tour and re-scheduled for August 24 & 25 (they were subsequently filmed for the 'At The Max' movie).

It worked out Ok for me. I'd been at two Paris shows in late June and then Glasgow on July 9th. Couldnt have afforded travelling to London so soon afterwards in - but the Wembley postponements meant I was able to go to both the final shows of the tour in the end, thanks to having another few weeks to save for the trip and picking up some of the few thousand tickets that had been returned because of the initial postponement.

That is quite a story, and all too bad you never got to see or meet them. First thing I would do is contact the organization that was giving the initial prize package. Was it Virgin? Was it a radio station? Who organized the prize. Contact them and tell them they owe you one because the concert was canceled ... then contact The Stones at their offices. It's sort of a long shot... but it's the best way to go about it. I wouldn't mention the rescheduling of the initial concert that took place a few months later. I would only push that the concert was canceled ...hence you (as well as nobody) ever got the prize. See if they are willing, and then if it's possible for them to set something up again.


Two things have to occur:

1. they have to be willing to give it another go.

2. They will then have to see if they can contact The Stones management/ public affairs...


Anythings possible .. so give it a try. Stranger things have happened.
