Title: Grammys??
Post by gimmekeef on Jan 26th, 2014 at 8:29am
Just read that Macca is up against Doom and Gloom in a song category at tonights awards. Seeing as Macca will be there I guess we know how that one comes out.

I had almost forgotten what Doom&Gloom was...for those of you also suffering from this...

"Doom and Gloom" is the lead single taken from GRRR!, the 50th anniversary compilation album by The Rolling Stones. It was premiered on BBC Radio 2 on 11 October 2012. The song marks the first time that Mick Jagger, Keith Richards, Charlie Watts and Ronnie Wood have been in the studio together for seven years, since the recording of their last album, A Bigger Bang.[1] A lyric video was released on YouTube the same day.[2]

The song charted at #61 on the UK Singles Chart, #26 on the Billboard Japan Hot 100 and #30 on the Billboard Rock Songs chart in October 2012.

Rolling Stone named "Doom and Gloom" the eighteenth best song of 2012.[3]

The song was played in the end credits to A Good Day to Die Hard.

Doom & Gloom is a damn fine tune.

I hope the Stones win, crash the party, and fart by Paul when they walk up to accept.

Charlie Is My Darling tied for a Grammy in it's category and The Brussels Affair box lost in it's category.

Doom & Gloom is what we're waiting on.

So, 'best rock album' of 2013 was a live album recorded in 2007 at a one off reunion gig by a band who broke up in 1980?

Sounds like 2013 was a vintage year

I really don't get America's love affair with Zeppelin. Honestly if they put out an album of their loudest belches over the past 30 years and an impersonator belching the way John Bonham would have belched, it would sweep all the awards shows just because they can do no wrong.

Oh, I'm well aware of Zeppelin's plagiarism.
Amazing how they've gotten away with so much.

Read a lot of flippancy in my Beavis & Butthead post.

O: I was disappointed when the Led Zeppelin sample from "Kashmir" had to be lifted from Schoolly D's song "Signifying Rapper" for Bad Lieutenant.

AF: Oh, yeah. I'll strangle that cocksucker Jimmy Page. As if every fucking lick that guy ever played didn't come off a Robert Johnson album. "Signifying Rapper" was out for five years, and there wasn't a problem. Then the film had already been out for two years and they start bitching about it. And these pricks, when their attorneys are on the job, our guys are afraid to come out of their office. You're not gonna fight their fucking warriors, you know what I mean? Can you imagine, this was down at a federal court in New York, with a 70-year-old judge, and they're playing Schoolly D and Led Zeppelin to the guy? It cost Schoolly like $50,000. It was a nightmare. And meanwhile, "Signifying Rapper" is 50 million times better than "Kashmir" ever thought of being. And then, this prick [Page] turns around with Puff Daddy and redoes it for the Godzilla soundtrack. Here's Puff Daddy, where every other song this boy sang was King Of New York this and King Of New York that. And I would never even fucking think of suing these guys. Why sue? You should be happy that somebody is paying homage to your work.

O: And Bad Lieutenant was hardly even a blip on the cultural radar.

AF: Exactly. And it ruined the movie. I was so pissed off, I said, "All right, fuck this." We could have changed it and put other music in those spots, but I said, "Fuck this, we ain't putting nothing in." This is one of those decisions you end up regretting.
