Been searching on Google and haven't found much at all about Open G Tuning like who was the 1st to play in that tuning.

Any info would be appreciated and if there is any rock and roll bands who played Open G before the Stones, like Ry Cooder.

BTW, I have my guitar tuned to Open G and can play most any song on it that not intended for the wonderful Open G sound.

Yes, a great read! I first read that story in a Keith interview years ago, although he theorized that up to a certain point banjos were the cheapest instrument in the sears catalog, and when guitars became cheaper ($5 or less) all the poor blacks began buying them instead and used the same tunings they'd learned from their banjo-playing forebears. Fascinating stuff. And really odd too, because I JUST tuned my 1934 Sears Supertone to an open G tuning right before I stopped by here to see what was new, at 3:30 am.

WEIRD!

Same here mate. I quit using standard tuning (nearly) completely. open D and E on some guitars.

Thanks EG, for the interesting read.
