Title: Sitting on A Fence Post by LanternHigh on Dec 1st, 2013 at 3:23am
I wonder why many songs like Sitting On A Fence wasn't never played live. Neither in the last short tour.
What's wrong with it? Nice lyrics and sound. Mick in shape. I really can't understand. Will they never open theirs vaults? http://youtu.be/sngL9DtqQLY Anyway what are the song you would liked listen on a live show of the Stones? Lady Jane was played in 02 Arena.. something that Mick had forgotten in all this time.. |

I wonder if the Stones could play this with the proper intensity to make it sound good live:

Mick's probably forgotten 'Sittin' on a Fence'. Chuck Leavell did say one time that when he suggests songs to Mick to sing, he basically isnt interested in playing anything from the Brian Jones era that isnt on greatest hits albums like 40 Licks. 'Lady Jane' in fairness is a much better known song. It still took them 45 years to play it again! The one I'd love to hear from that era is "You Cant Catch Me". I think that of all the Chuck Berry songs theyve released, its the only one that theyve never played live. Its also IMO their best Chuck cover. |

Yes, agree! It is Chuck Leavell that suggest to Mick which songs he might sing.. it is the memory of the Stones was said.. he got all in his mind. And by now Mick and Keith too they hate all the Brian's era. But is a pity. Also Ruby Tuesday came from the same era.. I too was pleased to listen that song you named. It's an unterrated song. 'Lady Jane' in fairness is a much better known song. It still took them 45 years to play it again! The one I'd love to hear from that era is "You Cant Catch Me". I would love to know who played lead acoustic guitar on Sittin' On a Fence," a boyhood fave of mine. Brian, or a studio ringer?

I'm curious why it wouldn't be Jones. Did they have studio ringers on other songs? |

Earlier in their career - John McLaughlin and Jimmy Page, as noted on the Metamorphosis cover. |

Metamorphosis was completely exceptional -- demo recordings to present for consideration of other artists. Sittin' on a Fence wasn't on it. The lead sure sounds like Keith to me. He was the group's lead guitarist at the time. http://www.timeisonourside.com/SOSittinOn.html Probable line-up: Cymbals: Charlie Watts Bass: Bill Wyman Acoustic guitars: Keith Richards & Brian Jones Lead vocals: Mick Jagger Harmony vocal: Keith Richards Harpsichord: Jack Nitzsche Tambourine: Charlie Watts |

I'm sorry - but it doesn't sound like Keith to me, nor Keith's style then or now. Only Brian was that accomplished on acoustic, but the style is unfamiliar, so I wonder if it's him. Not all of Metamorphosis is for the demo market. |

Yes, but Sittin' on a Fence wasn't ON Metamorphosis, so how is that relevant? Besides, you say "only Brian was that accomplished on acoustic" based on what evidence? Give me another example of Brian of acoustic lead. Listen to Hear It, which sounds similar. That is certainly Keith. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sCfzaL7VRZQ |

No way is that playing as good as "Sittin' On a Fence." As far as my comment re: Metamorphosis - read the whole thread. |

Some people don't know that the Stones could do everything (disco, psychedelia, pop, folk, rock, reggae), just like the Kinks or the Beatles, and get away with it.
Some people don't know who the Beatles were. I swear. And they don't care; or maybe they don't seem to care. I only know that while I was a youngster I didn't want people to talk to me. I was an EMO loser. (Goes away sobbing) |
