What would be the motive to cover up the murder of Jones? When someone takes such personally dangerous and extreme actions, they usually have a significant reason to do so. Or do I have to read the book to find out.........

Keylock was implicated, it's always family that comes to rescue. Quite a motivator, also in this case.

Well that is a motive, certainly. I'd cover up a murder for family.
