For those of you that don't have Facebook, Gary posted this within the past hour:

"My dad passed away from a heart attack last night . He had been diagnosed with terminal liver cancer just under 3 weeks ago. We're numb and shocked at losing him but comforted somewhat by knowing this is is how he'd have wanted to go instead of what he was due to face in the coming months . I loved him very much and will miss him terribly. Funeral arrangements will be confirmed later. Sleep well, dad. . Joe Galbraith 1937 - 2013 ."

We've lost too many; but we have to take comfort in knowing our loved
one's are in a better place.

My deepest condolences. The pain of losing a member of your direct family is unbearable and one doesn't even realize what is going on at the beginning. There is nothing to really say except that I wish you and your family the power to withstand this horrible period. I know it's not a consolation really, but I'm relieved that your family didn't have this go on for ages because that is a far more painful experience.

So sorry to hear that your dad passed away, and I agree that it was a better way to die than by cancer, my mom passed away by cancer and it was just a long long agony

Be strong my friend, it's always sad to lose someone so close

Thank you all so much. This has all been a huge comfort

My dad was never one for computers or the internet, although the concept of it intrigued him somewhat.

he'd have been speechless at the notion of so many people from every continent on the planet who he'd never met expressing sympathies on his passing on facebook and various other forums, including this one.

I consider ourselves lucky in some respects that as a family we didnt have to face what he would have had to go through over the coming months. Faced with a cancer diagnosis and dying of the exact same illness that killed his own father, he ended up going the way he always wanted instead - suddenly and painlessly.

He always did like to have the final say. Sounds familiar, eh? :-)

Sorry for your loss Gary. Sending you a smile ~ a smile relieves a heart that grieves. You have a lot of friends so they will help you get through this sad time in your life. You can never replace a parent, the grief subsides eventually but the loss lasts forever. Sending hugs too.

Stay healthy Gazza, here in the US we have Fish Oil and Co Q 10 for the heart.

My father passed away when I was only 11 too.

Fucked my life up too.

But I have to be thankful for The Rolling Stones to cope and rock out too.
