Title: Heads up for NYC area RO'ers...Ronnie and Mick T at The Cutting Room Post by LadyJane on Oct 19th, 2013 at 9:32am
Ronnie said in an interview a day or so ago that he intends to play the Cutting Room in NYC in November, and as always that means KR may show up at least one of the three nights.
From ABC News: Ronnie Wood will be teaming up with the guitarist he replaced in The Rolling Stones, Mick Taylor, for a series of intimate club shows in New York City next month. A rep for The Cutting Room, a venue co-owned by Law And Order and Sex In The City star Chris Noth, tells ABC News Radio that the two Rock and Roll Hall of Famers will be performing there on three nights -- November 7, 8 and 9. The rep also reveals that Wood and Taylor will be backed by a band of local musicians that the club is helping put together. The gigs will take place several days after the rockers join forces for the finale of the 2013 edition of London's BluesFest. That concert, which is scheduled for November 1 at the famed Royal Albert Hall, will be a tribute to influential American b...lues artist Jimmy Reed. In addition, the Cutting Room shows will happen just a few days before the November 11 arrival of The Rolling Stones' Sweet Summer Sun -- Hyde Park Live CD, DVD and Blu-ray. The releases feature performances from the band's two July 2013 concerts at the London Park. Wood and Taylor, of course, both played with The Stones at the shows. Copyright 2013 ABC News |

As long as Keith isn't in Jamaica you have to think one of the last 2 nights he'd be there to jam?

Title: Ronnie Wood and Mick Taylor Unite in New York Post by CS on Nov 8th, 2013 at 9:20pm
Ronnie Wood and Mick Taylor Unite in New York
Duo teams up for a mindblowing set of blues classics By Patrick Doyle November 8, 2013 2:55 PM ET Around 11 p.m. last night at New York's Cutting Room, Ronnie Wood closed his eyes and began playing a tasteful, descending blues intro before abruptly changing tempos. He instead kicked into Jimmy Reed's shuffle "Shame, Shame, Shame," throwing his arms high while delivering it in a grizzled howl before pointing to Mick Taylor a few feet away, who stoically delivered a searing solo on his Les Paul. "That was one of the first records I bought in high school!" Wood said afterward with a grin. "Not bad, is it?" Check Out the 100 Greatest Rolling Stones Songs Wood and Taylor's show last night at the tiny venue was a loose blast as they played the blues they grew up on – the setlist included no Rolling Stones songs and mostly explored Mississippi electric blues pioneer Jimmy Reed. Months after the Stones took the final bow of their "50 and Counting" tour (which reunited Taylor with the band for the first time in decades), the duo have formed a new union, booking small gigs in London and New York with a band of pros including Al Kooper and drummer Simon Kirke. Fans paid up to $300 face value for seats at the mostly invite-only gig, which included everyone from Kinks guitarist Dave Davies to Mary Kate Olsen in the crowd. While the pairing may seem surprising, the duo go way back: Wood was a huge fan of Taylor's in England in the Sixties. He would even fill in for Taylor when he was stricken by stage fright in his band the Gods. "He used to be too nervous even to go on, and he'd say 'Ronnie, play my bit for me," Wood recalled in According to the Rolling Stones. "Mick Taylor always underestimated his talent." That dynamic was still evident last night, with Wood relishing the role of frontman – mugging in exaggerated poses while howling away on classics like the show opener, "I Ain't Got You," and "I'm That Man Down There" and "Big Boss Man." Taylor laid low before breaking into fiery solos – at one point in the night, he made a subtle reference to “Can’t You Hear Me Knocking" (the only Stones nod the entire night). They both harmonized on Reeds' "Bright Lights Big City," and traded raucous slide licks during an extended take on Reed's "Going to New York." The show recalled what those nights must have been like, or something you might see at a late night jam at Woody's on the Beach, Woods' ill-fated Miami nightclub – and proved the duo don't need the Stones touring machine t0 put on a mindblowing show. |

Title: Re: Heads up for NYC area RO'ers...Ronnie and Mick T at The Cutting Room Post by Justin on Nov 9th, 2013 at 2:54am
Just got back myself from the 10:30 show. Absolutely magnificent! The level of playing from both Ronnie and Mick was outstanding. It felt so great to watch two pros do what they do best. Every lick, chord and solo came off so effortlessly and so filled with soul and passion that it was palpable throughout the room. I sat directly in front of Taylor and I was distracted (in the best way possible) by his playing throughout the night. He took very few solos but I was digging his rhythm playing every step of th eway. Such tasteful, delicate yet groovy rhythm throughout the night. I was smiling from ear to ear listening to him filling in the gaps with those chunky chords. As a guitar player it was educational and awe inspiring to see both Taylor and Wood bounce off each other like this. I sat there in front of them literally studying their every move. No DVD in the world could ever give me the education I saw tonight. Both men worked independently yet blended together so beautifully---it was the best lesson in blues any musician could ask for. Ronnie worked his ass off throughout the night: jumping from guitar to harmonica to vocals and vice versa and repeat. He was aggressive, focused as a laser and played absolutely brilliantly. To hear the blues, played by these two guys was simply a joy...a privilege even. I can't say enough about it...they put on a great show and they had a fantastic band backing them up. Gary Clark Jr. was a great addition and added some great energy to the proceedings and the crowd loved him. Some pics and videos below. Only have time to upload 1 video but more tomorrow night:

Few more videos;
"Shame, Shame, Shame" w/ Gary Clark Jr. http://youtu.be/xA-pmmiUYv0 "Blue Carnegie" (instrumental) http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XCPdUIhuwko&feature=youtu.be "Big Boss Man" http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cpoSZ-jMZxg&feature=youtu.be There are major closeups on the last video. I flipped it on after listening to a few bars of Taylor's rhythm as they ripped into "Big Boss Man." His playing was so infectious and vibrant, I couldn't keep my eyes off his fretboard. I decided I wanted to film just him playing rhythm...in the end I think it worked pretty well! |

Hours before Stones guitarist Ronnie Wood took the stage with former band member Mick Taylor at a club in Manhattan on Saturday night, a crowd gathered outside amid speculation that they would be joined by fellow guitarist Keith Richards and, possibly, Mick Jagger. Inside the Cutting Room was a mix of celebs — musician and actor Steven Van Zandt, Monkees member Micky Dolenz, fashion designer Tommy Hilfiger, among others. SO sorry for the delay but I had no Internet service and I was sleeping around. Now my life is back to normal after having a blast in the Big Apple. Let me describe the scene on Friday, November 8, night 2.
My ticket was at Will Call but as it turned out, there were no actual tickets unless you had them mailed. I waited on the line outside of The Cutting Room 2 hours early. They came around with a guest list and you had to show ID and the ticket confirmation, and they gave color coded wristbands. At 10:00 a black van pulls up and Mick Taylor gets out but its so crowded nobody notices, I yell out MICK!! and he looked very serious as he was ushered in a side door. Next out pops Ronnie all smiles and waves, my friend yells out to Ronnie 'what brand of hair spray do you use? and Ronnie started laughing, he thought it was funny and it was, then his bodyguard ushered him inside. They let the crowd in and it was a mad rush to get up front. I lucked out with a decent table even though I had a GA standing wristband, nobody checked, it was unorganized, there was a $20 limit so I ordered 2 $10 good wines. The place was packed and it was tight, and Mr. Big Chris Noth came out to introduce the band. From that point on the music took on a hypnotizing quality because it was all blues and many of the songs sounded similar, but Ronnie and Mick T put on a great show, they work well together. Gary Clark Jr. came out for 2 songs, and the crowd loved him. Al Kooper on keyboards was an added bonus, he is a true pro. Everyone looked very happy, satisfied with the show, had a lot of fun. The place emptied out at around 1 AM. I must make mention that Jane Rose was there, at a VIP table and later on downstairs in band room. She may have been there scoping out the place and saw that it was too wide open for a KEEF appearance. Ronnie is so animated, Mick T is so understated, they balance each other out well, it was really cool seeing them play the blues together. Some people went downstairs after the show but I didn't get there soon enough and my friend saw Mick T getting money out of the ATM machine and he posed for a pic with her. Wonder what he needed the money for, lol, a snack? He does look heavy compared to Ronnie but that's because Ronnie is so skinny and Mick T is a regular sized guy, not fat but probably an XL compared to XS Ronnie. Love them both! |

I don't think anything over the last 30 years regarding the Stones has given me more joy than the reentry of Mick Taylor into the fold. I just wish Mick and Keith would take that final step and bring him back into the band and make it 3 guitars. Pictures like this just look so right.
