According to the Stones ap, a new release to be announced tomorrow. The wording seems to suggest its an official DVD release of the Hyde Park concert(s) |

Good news! for the fact Mick Taylor took part, I still don't think it was right that Brian Jones name wasn't even mentioned at the concert, Mick wore his shroud or dress to mark 1969 but why not mention Brian???? this is BS, the concert in '69 was for Remembering Brian, & I say crap on them, do they think they got so rich & famous & not remember the guy who started the band!!
I sometimes think The Beatles are leaving a better legacy then The Stones. |

First guess...an announcement of a special screening in theaters of the Hyde Park shows. If not... a DVD announcement seems very likely. going by the wording...it doesnt sound like its a multi disc box set DVD like the anticipated which is a bit of a shame.

Sometimes? Regardless of our own personal preferences, it unquestionably pisses all over it. Quitting at your peak and never reforming has ensured that. Saying that, I'd personally take 30-odd years of a band past their prime but still touring over having only archive releases and reissues to look forward to since 1970. You're spot on about the Brian Jones thing. Having been at the first Hyde Park show this year, for all the nods to the original event that they did that day and the following Saturday, to not even acknowledge Brian even in passing was poor form. |

Bian was an unspoken presence, shirley, amongst oodles of other presences. Revisiting the Park should presumably have had the Sones musing on 1969/Brian aplenty but I'm not sure it's their style to do the obvious.
Beast Of Burden was sweet (and Ronald -a Brian, of sorts, in different trousers - looked Ramoneishly lovely. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=b7xXk3gAXjU |

More heel-dragging.
Announcement postponed until tomorrow, it seems. Obviously getting the wording of a short statement right at 24 hours notice is a lot to expect! |

This will be a DVD release of EVERY Emotional Rescue from the tour with bonus footage of Taylor Swift singing "As Tears Go By".
No mention of Mick Taylor OR Brian Jones. Executive produced by Mick Jagger. Keith was at lunch. |

Can't those paid monkeys get the wording right...alright dammit here:
Following the generosity of the free Glastonbury broadcast we now present a just slightly overpriced Hyde Park DVD/CD/LP package with T-Shirt and Guitar picks (pick not actually from event). Rejoin us as we leave out "Can't You Hear Me Knocking" and "Sway". Look back with us as Mick Taylor kills time back stage during some of his seminal moments in the bands history. Finally, dream with us as we imagine what could have been during the much anticipated Brian Jones tribute segment recognizing the time and talent of one of the original members of the Rolling Stones during the sad anniversary of his untimely passing... Something like that...hey, how much do those swabs get paid for this? |

Any minor delay seems fair, especially if they are tweaking the goods to include extra eggs, jollier packaging, meatier bass, higher-volumed slide-guitar perhaps, or even, I suggest, 100 random 'executive versions' of the DVd which turn out to contain only gig footage filmed from behind the wall, amidst paupers and random groovers.

I got it last week. Stunning box set with two books covering essays and photos relating to the 1969-71 era. 1 cd featuring remaster of previously released material 2 cds consisting of over 30 long lost and very good outtakes from 1969-71 and wonderful alternate versions of released songs which are largely superior to what we're familiar with. 1 cd consisting of the entire performance from that iconic summer 1969 show in England. A show long derided for its lack of musical quality but which with the benefit of a very nice mix, turns out to be actually pretty good. Lots of photos in the book from the show featuring the singer in his distinctive and fetching white outfit backed up by the band's definitive line up. Ooops...sorry, I thought this was the Dylan thread! |

I am one who see no connection with the Hyde Park shows of either 69 or 13 except for the fact they took place in Hyde Park. Might have been classy to mention Brian, but why? They already did that - in 69.

Well right from the initial announcement, the band made plenty of references to the significance of going back to Hyde Park. Whilst Jagger's comment about playing the same setlist obviously went over the heads of some dimwitted fans and journalists who took it at face value, he even re-enacted the 'frock' look for a song or two.
At the gig itself he introduced Taylor by referring to him making his debut at the same venue in 1969, so I dont think it would have been much of a stretch. |

The Rolling Stones, with Eagle Rock Entertainment today announce the DVD and Blu-Ray release of The Rolling Stones Sweet Summer Sun – Hyde Park Live. Available from 11 November 2013, Sweet Summer Sun – Hyde Park Live chronicles the Rolling Stones’ historic and triumphant return to London’s Hyde Park with a 2-hour live concert and highlights package including new and unseen backstage footage.
This summer, over 100,000 delirious fans packed into Hyde Park for two spectacular outdoor concerts to see Mick Jagger, Keith Richards, Charlie Watts and Ronnie Wood do what they do best. The Stones delivered a five star performance packed full of hits such as ‘Start Me Up’, ‘Brown Sugar’, ‘Jumpin’ Jack Flash’, ‘Miss You’, ‘It’s Only Rock ‘N’ Roll’, ‘Gimme Shelter’, ‘Doom And Gloom’ and ‘Sympathy For The Devil’, as well as one or two surprises. Mick Jagger said: “It was a great gig…It was beautiful with the sun going down over Hyde Park. I can’t think of a better way celebrate the Rolling Stones’ 50 than doing it on our home patch in front of 100,000 people on a glorious summer night…enjoy it… we certainly did.” Keith Richards commented: “Coming back to Hyde Park was like a full circle being drawn, and the band were in top form. We thought what could be more appropriate than having a great summer in London!” From the second the Rolling Stones stepped out onto the stage each night, through to the dazzling firework and pyrotechnic display that heralded the end of the concert, fans old and new were treated to a non-stop, hit after hit performance, which took them through the Stones’ huge back catalogue. Keith Richards wowed the crowds by weaving his charismatic guitar licks with Ronnie Wood’s immense solos, Mick Jagger was on spectacular form, his boundless energy on stage matched by a number of stunning outfit changes, and Charlie Watts the unflappable heartbeat of the band, driving the band on through the set. Former guitarist Mick Taylor – whose live debut with the Stones took place at the original 1969 Hyde Park concert – joined the band on stage to guest on the bluesy ‘Midnight Rambler’ and on closing track ‘Satisfaction’, whilst long-term live band members Lisa Fischer, Darryl Jones, Chuck Leavell, Bernard Fowler, Bobby Keys and Tim Ries all added their inimitable flair and finesse. The Rolling Stones Sweet Summer Sun – Hyde Park Live is the perfect way for concert-goers to relive their favourite memories from the gigs, and for their fans to see the band back where they truly belong: live on the stage in their hometown. Nice.
Title comes from a line in 'Loving Cup', in case it looks familiar. However, whilst the CD contains the same 19 songs that were on the i-tunes release, its a bit underwhelming to say the least that instead of expanding it on the DVD/blu ray, theyve actually chosen to just release 16 of them. Stupid decision. |

I have such low expectations from them now that this is exactly what I thought would come out. It's boring and I'm sure the same usual suspects will come out of the woods and condemn what I have said, but whatever. They could have expanded this thing in such a big way and probably done a whole set like they did with the 02 and 05/06 tours, but that's too much trouble for Mick and Keith. |

Title: Re: "Sweet Summer Sun - Hyde Park Live" - new bluray/DVD box set 11/11/13 Post by Gazza on Sep 4th, 2013 at 9:55am
So if I'm reading this right, 'Tumbling Dice', 'Emotional Rescue' and 'Paint It Black' are only on the CD and are dropped from the DVD - and 'Happy' appears on the DVD but is replaced on the CD by 'Before they make me run'.
'Paint It Black' was a major highlight of the show I was at and the crowd went nuts for it. Dropping a rarely played song 'Emotional Rescue' is another faux pas. Is there some kind of contract that says that the same bloody songs have to be released on every product? Still not finding any room for 'Beast of Burden' and 'All Down the Line' is disappointing too. They should have extended the DVD blu ray to include every song or as many as possible. Not cut songs OFF it. |

Again, our expectation SHOULD be low at this point. There was plenty of room on that DVD and Blu Ray for everything, but they are getting very picky about performances and flubs and probably didn't want to spend any extra time fixing them in the studio. I'm not so inspired to buy this. They could have grabbed me if they had done a Hyde Park/Rolling Stones looking glass project and given us the 1969 show, the story with Brian (Cliff's Notes would have been okay), the 2013 show, extras from the current tour...the whole thing. But we get THIS. This is a very Black Crowes kind of move. They do this to their fan base all the time. |

Really, we should have no expectations, just like the song… wake up, seriously, you're asleep, and you think you're awake… why do I say that? Because this release shows they are asleep too, you wake up enough to see that, complain and then go right back to sleep… It's said all the time, buy or don't… we have zero say in what happens… none… I'm not even sure if some of us actually decide if you buy it or not… you may be on cruise control at this point… the audio was cool… seeing the Glasto stuff bored me… I don't think a DVD does it for me more than one viewing… sorry if i sound like an ass, but we get so mad over nothing… this thread is more altamont than hyde park, can't we all just cool out… heehee… fuck ya, gazaa… will ya!!!! |

I will not accept this as the ONLY product from the tour. Hyde Park wasn't even THE best show of the tour and they ought to know because they filmed every show...they should have realized that when they reviewed the hours of footage they amassed over two months. |

Hard to say, but I don't think so. Its either a long view of the park from the back of the field with the stage in the background (which is what I think it is) or a view of the field taken FROM the stage. If its the latter, it could be Kensington Palace (official residence of Prince William and Prince Harry amongst others) as its around that end of the park. |

It's sad to say, but unless it's new material, I don't even bother with the details of these rubbish announcements. They seem to put together the most useless packages and it just goes to how much they care. The Exile rerelease gave me some hope and then they did that absolutely useless Some Girls release which looked like it was more for contractual reasons. I don't even give a toss about the track listing.

It wouldn't really have made sense to compile a DVD from the in-door concerts, if they're hoping to get punters to see them on the same stage later in the year / in 2014, shirley?
The Hyde Pork gigs were two-offs, with lots of original / unique filmic possibilities, and a celebration of summer, and hearing the Stoonz play their ditties 2013-style(e) and outdoors - while side-stepping the already (fairly widely) seen Glastonburger, seems fair to me. Emo, BOB plus another could have filled the space used by the rambling Midnight, perhaps, but then that would have excluded swee' Taylor, causing some firm fans to go nut-cake and want to root their budgerigar. Bob Clearmountain was on-board and that is dandy, shirley? Seems like a more than reasonable lil' package for 'mid-tour' and a respectable nod to dear ol' Lan-dan Toon. Perhaps I was the only one who liked Some Girls Deluxe. Admittedly it didn't contain anything that built or reflected the NY 'rap' of 'Shattered' (the tune that inspired / opened the door for / jumped ahead of Grandmaster Flash & the FF's 'The Message') or the alternate new groove of 'Miss You' (released before Chic's 'Le Freak' and 'Good Times').... but... 'Do You Think...', 'Spare Parts' and 'Don't Be A Stranger' were especially splendiddles to mi mynd. Perhaps my prob is that I like them too much (albeit in a bro-ish way rather than spousal way). |

I liked the Some Girls deluxe too.
Did I read at the time that the Hyde Park shows were being filmed in 3D or something similarly splendiforous? If so, odd that theyve chosen not to use that option |

My issue with the Some Girls rerelease wasn't the tracks, although I would have liked if they would have worked up I Need You. My issue is that they just put it out without much energy behind it. It was as if, we spent our energy on Exile and we can't be bothered now. Even the magazine interviews were far less. If they can't be tossed, it sort of makes me not give a toss. You might say that about a lot of their recent exertions, but some are worse than others.

from the 'I shit you not' department....
the three missing songs on the blu ray/DVD (before they make me run, Tumbling dice, Paint it Black) will be released exclusively on the Japanese edition. Whether its on the regular release there or just on the deluxe, I'm not sure. They actually have the cheek to call it 'bonus' material too. So, basically, Japan gets what should be retitled the 'standard edition' and the rest of the world gets Omaha'ed with the 'substandard edition' |

The way they did this made some people's heart skip a beat: they announced 'BIG NEWS' through push messages from the Stones app. I know several people in the Netherlands who expected news on the European Tour. Hell, even I did for half a sec and I knew this set was coming. Even if I actually wanted another official live disc the announcement would've been a let down.
Cool title though. You'd wish they would've played the song they took the line from. |

here's one to think about. The Stones routinely issue a DVD from each tour.
How many of those releases have included shows that YOU were at? Even if only a few songs were included (like Rio 2006 on Biggest Bang DVD - I know Jizzy was at that one) Im sure some of you go back further than I do. Glen had a friend with him at Hyde Park in July who was at not only the 1969 Hyde Park show but the Rock n Roll Circus as well, which I thought was quite amazing. My 'official' video/DVD releases lists are : 'At The Max' (1991) - Wembley 24 & 25.8.90 'Four Flicks' (2003) - Twickenham 24.8.03 'Sweet Summer Sun' (2013) - Hyde Park 6.7.13 (if Voodoo gets round to updating the setlist page I sent him, you'd be able to check them for yourself..) |

Thats just the classic Stones marketing concept: they released that a collectors edition of ABB after everyone bought it as well...luckily I had come to my senses by that time and did not buy it. In fact I was desperately searching for reasons why I shouldnt use the copy I got as a frisbee.

Most of their DVD releases are edited. This is nothing new. They always do this. What I want to see is edited. It's like they are keeping tabs on what I want and then giving me everything but.
I'm glad I didn't bother with iTunes...shitty MP3 audio doesn't excite me. This release is better than nothing, I guess. |

Apparently when the Stones next release a studio album, the Japanese deluxe import will be the only version that plays the whole way through until the end. |

This isnt edited as such. They're releasing what is basically a full length show culled from two performances, as they did with the audio version of the release. Presumably Michael / 'm and the editor / The Stones Collective / whoever(s) was or were in charge thought the selection as presented to the non-nips [joke] worked best as a flowy thread, both visually and musically, in tandem.
I am deeply deeply - deeply - appalled and shocked and stunned rigid & rotten by the non-inclusion of 'Curtains', but not like one can't watch fan-cam footage of it and udder things, shirley? is it safe to assume that despite buying FIVE discs we're still getting stiffed three songs compared to Japan - which remains the only market who appears to be getting the equivalent of a full length show on DVD/blu ray?
16 songs on a blu ray spread out over a 5-disc box set. WC Fields has clearly been reincarnated as the head of the Stones' marketing division. |

Going by what Ive read yesterday, there appears to be a bit of crossover in sources between the audio and DVD releases of these shows.
The version of JJF that was released on the i-tunes download (and which presumably will be on the Sweet Summer Sun CD) comes from 6th July, but the audio of the performance of the song posted yesterday on their various social media sites comes from the 13th. Even more confusingly, the visuals in that clip come from both shows... Just when I thought it was safe to update the setlists page..... :forfucksake :forfucksake :forfucksake |

BBC just showed a 75 minute edit of the 'Sweet Summer Sun' dvd.
Wasnt just simply a concert broadcast, some nice off-camera commentary by the Stones themselves, and a couple of clips of Hyde Park 69 nicely woven in. It was pretty well filmed, I thought. The interviews appeared in between songs though, which I hope isnt the case on the DVD. The songs broadcast were : Start Me Up IORR Ruby Tuesday Honky Tonk Women Gimme Shelter Jumpin Jack Flash Sympathy For The Devil Brown Sugar You Cant Always Get What You Want Satisfaction Oh, and in case anyone is interested, Keith has mysteriously somehow managed to play the first three chords of 'Start Me Up' properly, despite fouling them up at BOTH shows. |

Gotta admit that it's shot superbly. Fresh dynamic cinematography...sort of reminds me of the camera work on Zilker Park show from the ABB set. Wish they would've not focused so much on the grandness of everything....crowd shots every 3 seconds and the stage shots to show how big it is. We get it...it's huge. The crowd is massive. Got it. |

Saw it tonight (in martigues) full house, (butt it's only playing for 1 night). Great show, very nicely shot. Sound in cinema was not too great, but I'll have the DVD next week anyway :)
I was at the 2nd show myself, but too far away to Really see anything (Except for the excellent view of the bar ), So it was good to be in the very 1st row now! |

I am VERY happy to report that the stand alone Blu-Ray versions of "Sweet Summer Sun" contain "Emotional Rescue" as a bonus song. The bonus songs are: "Emotional Rescue", "Paint it Black" and "Before They Make Me Run"...no "Tumblin Dice." Either it was an error in all the tracklisting up to this point or it was a last minute switch--- but I am very pleased they came to their senses and tacked on the one track I think we all were looking forward to seeing!

After viewing the BR last night, I give it a B-...it's another stadium/outdoor show and a lot of the subtleties that made the indoor shows during the tour so special are gone. Mick amps it up with the physical stuff which makes his vocal take a backseat once again. It isn't bad but it surely isn't the same as the arena shows.
One thing for sure: it's the loudest Ronnie's ever been mixed. He comes in clear as a freakin' bell. At one point the audio coming from the left speaker was clipping because of how high he was in the mix during a solo. Keith's solos all are passable and non embarassing ala "Shine A Light." Either they fixed the solos in post or Keith really was focused--he does a fine job either way. Camera work was top notch...great quality footage but a little too many crowd shots for my liking plus too many shots showing off the huge stage. They did their best to capture the little moments on stage be it the smiles shared between band members...there was a very sweet one between Mick and Keith during "Street Fighting Man." Overall, the concert worked and was a step up from the The Biggest Bang set and "Shine A Light." The set list left a lot to be desired but thank the Lord they added "Emotional Rescue" as a bonus song. It wouldn't have killed them to have had a documentary or interview feature but oh well. |

I bought the deluxe version that comes with a book. Skip it. The book is poorly printed...the colors seem washed out.
I listened to the CDs and they sound great. The mix is perfect. Turned up, it's as if I'm at the show. Good job. This weekend is the blu ray, then the 69 show. |

I have the deluxe edition. The book isn't the greatest. The colors look washed out, the discs hard to remove from it, and the binding quality suspect on the last few pages.
BUT - the CDs sound great. I've listened to it on both of my audio systems and find it to be one of the greatest concerts I've ever heard. They are in fine form, proving to the world that they rule and the naysayers can go jump in a lake. And yes, my pants have been spared. They reside in my closet for the time being. Come to think of it, I haven't seen pants since Philly #1. The Stones rule. |

Are the versions on the CDs the same as the i-tunes download from July?
Are some of the versions of the songs on the dvd different than the ones that are on the CD? Ive heard 'Midnight Rambler' is different plus maybe some others. Is 'Tumbling Dice' the only song thats on the Japanese deluxe that is missing from the regular deluxe version? What version includes 'The Stones in the Park' material from 1969 and is it the full original broadcast? Does it also include the bonus footage released a couple of years ago (ie, parts of 3 songs) So many questions, but with all the half arsed info and bait and switch nonsense that has been associated with this release in the last couple of months I ended up losing the will to live every time I read about it, gave up and havent bothered buying it. |

Surprised that this hasnt been officially announced by the Stones organisation, but as of 1st January, there is a free 3-track 'Sweet Summer Sun' single available on i-tunes.
The tracks are : Beast of Burden Tumbling Dice Doom and Gloom 'Beast of Burden' isn't on the 'Hyde Park Live' audio release so this would appear to be the first time it's been made available in that format. (thanks, Flairville for the text message) |

It was played as song #5 on 6th July. Between All Down the Line and Doom & Gloom.
It wasnt performed on the 13th July. rs.com have finally got around today to telling us this release is available. Its been on i-tunes since January 1st. I guess it'll be there for a while then, although Its probably a limited edition. |
