Richie Samboro quits band after 30 years. Gazza asked him..."what took you so long"?

'Phil X' Xenidis of frettedamericana has successfully filled-in for Samboro on recent tours. I'm not a Bon Jovi fan, but Phil X is terrific. Check out his You Tube videos.

RICHIE SAMBORA REPORTEDLY FIRED FROM BON JOVI TOUR
by Jeff Giles August 22, 2013 8:43 AM Larry Busacca, Getty Images The rumors continue to fly regarding Richie Sambora‘s absence from the latest Bon Jovi tour. The latest reports come from a site called RumorFix, where exclusive (and anonymous, natch) sources are saying Sambora has been officially fired from the tour in a dispute over money. According to RumorFix, Sambora has been pulling in $2 million a month and 20 percent of the net from each show in spite of his absence, which is a pretty significant salary if you aren’t actually onstage. Apparently, Jon Bon Jovi agreed, officially severing ties for the duration of the tour. In the process, he reportedly lowered the band’s overhead significantly; according to RumorFix’s report, Sambora’s replacement — onetime Triumph guitarist Phil X — is earning a comparatively low $10,000 a month while he’s on the road with Bon Jovi. According to the source, the decision isn’t sitting well with Sambora, and not because of money either. “Richie wants to go back onstage,” says the report. “That’s his first love. He’s really upset over the news.” RumorFix claims to have reached out to Bon Jovi’s reps for comment, to no avail. Bon Jovi’s current tour commitments run through mid-December and will see the band playing South America, North America, Japan and Australia. Updated 8/23: Phil X has weighed in on these rumors via Twitter: you know how I know http://RUMORFIX.com is full of shit? I wouldn't even leave my house for that salary. http://ultimateclassicrock.com/richie-sambora-fired-bon-jovi-tour/ |

How is this band still around? 3-4 albums in the 80s? WTF?
They suck, except for that noise at the beginning of Living on Prayer. Ohwooga, wacka, ohwooga, wacka, ohwooga, wacka, Tommy used to biff on the docks, union pissing scale, he's down his luck, it's tough....... It's almost as good as Ooga shacka, ooga shacka, ooga shacka at the beginning of Hooked On A Feeling. |

Tough life on the road. Bon Jovi were the ultimate exhausted rock warriors, they gave it all for their craft, their fans, America. "Sometime you tell the day, by the bottle that you drink!" Dylanesque, right there. Check the video. they looked tired and despondent. Wanted dead or alive guitar slingers from Jersey. Beach Haven, NJ. Although I think they were Italian. |

My favorite thing about this is that no one really gives a toss. He quit, who cares? Anyway, I'm waiting for the big reunion tour where the "original" members "reunite" and charge people through the nose for listening to utter shite. It's still cheaper than the Stones though.

I do not like Bon Jovi, but I couldn't say that I loathe him/them.
But, I do not understand why some fellas would want to punish themselves by listening to Bono (I can not stand him, his ugly mug, his stupid sunglasses and his terrible songs; and what about "The Edge"? I hate that name. It reminds me of Led Zep and their ego-trips) or Madonna (worst actress ever; and worst faked english accent ever also) "singing". They had one or two decent songs recorded, but that was all. I'm amazed that Bono and Madonna haven't gained Academy Awards: their songs are shit. The Eagles were better; at least they sucked modestly. They never wanted to change the world; they just wanted more cocaine. Plus, maybe I don't hate them too much because I don't listen to the radio. |

Livin' On A Prayer is a terrific slab of heavy-pop. I used to go to this bar where they'd play it alongside Summer Of '69 and Come On, Eileen.

Well I'm sad they broke up and glad I saw the opening of the tour when they were both in. So its safe to say they wont reach the 50 year milestone!

It doesnt say anywhere other than the thread headline that they've 'broke up'. Even if they had, it seems that no break ups are forever these days. '50 years of Bon Jovi'. Please dont even suggest that. I've just had lunch. :pukey |

Thats what has made them so annoying to me for decades. I cant stand their music - but their tunes are very catchy. Once heard they stay in your head. Its a talent of sorts to be able to occupy the minds of people who find you unlistenable. They're like some bizarre form of hallucinogenic in that despite knowing they'll make you feel horrible afterwards you allow them into your system and you cant get them out again for hours. And you even get flashbacks. |
Title: Re: Bon Jovi Split Post by The Wick on Aug 28th, 2013 at 11:47pm
I'm surprised people find their crap catchy. I remember a time when I wouldn't say they were fashionable but when garbage pop lovers wanted to be hard they would talk about how great Bon Jovi were. Even at the height of their popularity I just thought it was utter cheesy crap. Rather than catchy, I found every single song of theirs I would hear on the radio, in parties, or on MTV at the time, unbearable.

"Its a talent of sorts to be able to occupy the minds of people who find you unlistenable."
I remember as a young kid maybe 12 or 13 years old, my mom used to listen to WGY Schenectady 8100 on your AM radio dial. She used to listen for the news and weather, and as I ate breakfast before hopping on the bus, I was slathered with some of the best am easy listening one could find in upstate New York. Always amazed me how the songs I couldn't stand were the one's I couldn't get out of my head. Or worse yet, popped into your head as soon as you woke up!
