The family of a rock and roll legend and some Lower Mainland businessmen want to stage an international outdoor music festival in Abbotsford.

Planners of Myxxfest — YXX is the abbreviation for the Abbotsford International Airport — are hoping to book several well known bands to play the charity event at the airport next August.

"We're reaching out to the Rolling Stones, we're reaching out to the reformation of Led Zeppelin....[and] you know, placing the right information pertaining to Sir Paul McCartney" said Gary Karlsen, president of the Jimi Hendrix Family Foundation.

In addition to reaching out to Leon Hendrix, Jimi's brother, Karlsen also recruited Abbotsford resident Sir James Barlow — the great-great-grandson of Charles Darwin — to help involve local and international charities.

Music manager Bruce Allen, who represents Bryan Adams, Michael Bublé and Jann Arden, dismisses the idea.

"Who doesn't want to bring in those acts? But let's take a look — if you're Led Zeppelin and you've been putting off a reformation for so long it's ridiculous and Jimmy Page said he doesn't want to reform, are you going to have that reformation take place in Abbotsford? I mean, is that even humanly possible?" he said.

"These guys are smoking something out in Abbotsford. This is ridiculous."

Abbotsford Mayor Bruce Banman is cautious about the possible concert.

"We need a business plan, and we need to make the airport security is first and paramount," he said.

Banman also stressed the City of Abbotsford will not pay for the event.

According to Wikipedia, there are two Abbotsford's in the United States. One in Wisconsin and another in Boston.

Pot is basically legal in the U.K. as well. Perhaps that's why Glastonbury was such a roaring success?
