The Boston Strangler (aka Midnight Rambler to Stones fans) case gets much more narrowed to Albert Desalvo thanks to advancement in DNA profile attainment.

Basically 50 years after the last murder, DNA concludes that Albert Desalvo, who gave a skeptical, and controversial confession to being The Boston Strangler almost certainly played a role in at least one of the killings. His DNA profile was matched to a blanket and victims body that had DNA samples on it. It had not previously been technologically possible to create a profile from these samples until recently. The only thing not linking him to almost 100% blame is the fact that other DNA, from one other person besides the victim was also found on the blanket.
