Title: For anyone keeping count - North American tour stats
Post by Gazza on Jun 25th, 2013 at 5:39pm
I'm almost finished updating the setlists page, so may as well put this together for the anally retentive amongst you

The 2013 North American tour consisted of 18 tour shows in 11 North American cities plus a warm-up club gig in Los Angeles.

Songs played :

The band played the following 56 songs :

All Down The Line
Angie
As Tears Go By
Beast Of Burden
Before They Make Me Run
Bitch
Brown Sugar
Can't You Hear Me Knocking
Champagne And Reefer
Dead Flowers
Doom and Gloom
Emotional Rescue
Factory Girl
Far Away Eyes
Get Off Of My Cloud
Gimme Shelter
Goin' Down
Happy
Honky Tonk Women
It's All Over Now
It's Only Rock 'n' Roll
Jumpin' Jack Flash
Just My Imagination
Let It Bleed
Little Red Rooster
Little Queenie
Live With Me
Love In Vain
Memory Motel
Miss You
Midnight Rambler
No Expectations
One More Shot
Paint It Black
Respectable
Rocks Off
Satisfaction
Shattered
She's So Cold
Shine A Light
Six Days On The Road
Start Me Up
Street Fighting Man
Sway
Sympathy For The Devil
That's How Strong My Love Is
The Last Time
Tumbling Dice
Under The Boardwalk
Waiting On A Friend
When The Whip Comes Down
Wild Horses
Worried About You
You Can't Always Get What You Want
You Got Me Rocking
You Got The Silver

Two songs were performed for the first time ever :

Emotional Rescue
Six Days On The Road

The club show featured a 14-song setlist. The 18 tour shows averaged exactly 22 songs - the opening two shows (Los Angeles 3rd May and Oakland 5th May) had 23 songs, Philadelphia 1 (18th June) and Washington DC had 21 songs. The remainder had 22.

Five songs were played at the club show in LA and not again for the rest of the tour :

Just My Imagination, Little Queenie, Love In Vain, She's So Cold, That's How Strong My Love Is

Number of times the rest of the songs were played on the tour (+1 in brackets means they were also played at the club show) (maximum is 18 (+1)

18 (+1) - Brown Sugar, Jumpin Jack Flash, Miss You, Midnight Rambler, Start Me Up

18 - Get Off Of My Cloud, Gimme Shelter, Honky Tonk Women, Its Only Rock 'n' Roll, One More Shot
Paint It Black, Satisfaction, Sympathy For The Devil, Tumbling Dice, You Cant Always Get What You Want

17 - Doom and Gloom

16 - Emotional Rescue

13 - Before They Make Me Run, You Got The Silver

10 - Happy

5 - All Down The Line, Wild Horses

4 - Can't You Hear Me Knockin'

3 (+1) - You Got Me Rocking

3 - Dead Flowers, Sway, Rocks Off

2 (+1) - Live With Me, Street Fighting Man

2 -  Beast Of Burden, Bitch, The Last Time, When The Whip Comes Down, Worried About You

1 (+1) - Respectable

1 - Angie (Toronto #1), As Tears Go By (Chicago #3), Champagne & Reefer (Anaheim #1), Factory Girl (LA #1), Far Away Eyes (LA #2), Goin' Down (Boston #1), Its All Over Now (San Jose), Let It Bleed (San Jose), Little Red Rooster (Oakland), Memory Motel (Boston #2), No Expectations (San Jose), Shattered (Anaheim #2), Shine A Light (Chicago #2), Six Days On The Road (Chicago #1), Under The Boardwalk (Philadelphia #1), Waiting On A Friend (Anaheim #1)

(so, effectively, 15 songs of the (average) 22 songs per night were played at every arena show, with Doom & Gloom being played at all but one and Emotional Rescue at all but two)

Mick Taylor :

Mick guested on one song ('Midnight Rambler') on each of the first two arena shows (which were the two longest shows of the tour in terms of number of songs played - 23) and thereafter on two songs every night ('Midnight Rambler' and 'Satisfaction' apart from the following shows where he also played on the following songs :

Los Angeles 20/5 - Sway, Can't You Hear Me Knockin'
Chicago 31/5 - Can't You Hear Me Knockin'
Chicago 3/6 - Sway
Toronto 6/6 - Can't You Hear Me Knockin'
Boston 12/6 - Sway
Philadelphia 21/6 - Can't You Hear Me Knockin'

At the club show at the Echoplex, he guested on 'Midnight Rambler' and 'Love In Vain', the latter of which was it's only performance of the tour.

The Special Guests :

There were 16 special guest appearances at 14 of the 18 tour shows. Not a single song was played in the guest slot more than once.

Los Angeles 3/5 - Gwen Stefani (Wild Horses)
Los Angeles 3/5 - Keith Urban (Respectable)
Oakland 5/5 - Tom Waits (Little Red Rooster)
San Jose 8/5 - John Fogerty (Its All Over Now)
San Jose 8/5 - Bonnie Raitt (Let It Bleed)
Las Vegas 11/5 - Katy Perry (Beast of Burden)
Anaheim 15/5 - John Mayer (Champagne & Reefer)
Anaheim 18/5 - Dave Grohl (Bitch)
Toronto 25/5 - Carrie Underwood (Its Only Rock n Roll)
Chicago 28/5 - Taj Mahal (Six Days On The Road)
Chicago 31/5 - Sheryl Crow (All Down the Line)
Chicago 3/6 - Taylor Swift (As Tears Go By)
Montreal 9/6 - Win Butler (The Last Time)
Boston 12/6 - Gary Clark, Jr. (Goin' Down)
Philadelphia 18/6 - Brad Paisley (Dead Flowers)
Philadelphia 21/6 - Aaron Neville (Under The Boardwalk)

The shows at Los Angeles 20/5, Toronto 6/6, Boston 14/6 and Washington 24/6 featured no guests.

The Choirs

At each of the 11 cities, the Stones used a local choir on "You Cant Always Get What You Want". The same choir would be used at each show in that city when the band played multiple nights, although in some cases the choir used different members at each show. The same choir was used for the shows in San Jose and Oakland.

Los Angeles - California State University (Long Beach) Cole Conservatory Chamber Choir

Oakland & San Jose - San Jose State University Choraliers

Las Vegas - Green Valley High School Choir

Anaheim - USC Thornton Chamber Choir

Toronto - Cawthra Park Secondary School Chamber Choir

Chicago - Roosevelt University Conservatory Chorus

Montreal - La Choeur des Jeunes de Laval

Boston - Boston University Marsh Chapel Choir

Philadelphia - The Crossing Choir

Washington - The Washington Chorus

Ticket prices :

the average ticket price on this tour (excluding the Echoplex warm up gig where tickets went for $20) is an eye watering $358.97 - according to this article in the Huffington Post.
http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2013/06/21/rolling-stones-taylor-swift-top-tour_n_3477718.html?ncid=edlinkusaolp00000003

This was published before the end of the tour and is only a weekly statistic, so the final figure is unconfirmed as yet, but this gives a ballpark figure. The average ticket price on the Bigger Bang tour was around $169.

Corrections welcome, of course.

Knew I'd forgotten something

'By Request'

The following songs won the 'by request' poll on the Stones' official site and i-phone ap.

(it should be said, some of these results were of dubious authenticity - especially when they just happened to have a special guest handy to perform on the winning song!)

No Expectations - San Jose
Sway - LA #2, Chicago #3, Boston #1
Street Fighting Man - Toronto #1, Washington
Rocks Off - Chicago #1
Shine a Light - Chicago #2
Worried About You - Toronto #2
Dead Flowers - Montreal, Philadelphia #1
Memory Motel - Boston #2
Cant You Hear Me Knockin' - Philly #2

Re: the bit in bold

I should add that as a result of me suggesting on the Stones' facebook page that the voting system was questionable and that posting poor sounding snippets of songs on their you tube channel was a bit underwhelming, both myself and the facebook account owned by this site are now unable to post comments on the official Stones facebook page as of the last month (its a bit freaky that while I posted iny my own name, they banned the RO site from doing so too....maybe they DO have a 'Fingerprint File' on us!).    :willya

Sensitive bastards!

I'm not sure what you mean, Ellen. I didnt suggest that it wasnt.

Unless youre misreading the 'by request' bit. It was played as the 'by request' winner in Toronto. In DC it wasnt. 'Street Fighting Man' won the webvote, did it not?.

Take the cover songs out of this 56 song list and you have what a good 50 Licks Best Of CD should look like.

For me, Plundered My Soul is the best thing they've dropped in that time frame.

:will-ya

THAT should have been given consideration for the setlist.

Just sayin'  :wtf1

***At the very least rotate One More Shot and Plundered*******

Let me be clear, it was the best non-Exile, non-Some Girls re-tread that they have dropped in 15 years.

And certainly not a piss-worthy song (unless one's bladder is delicate and control becomes an issue).

One More Shot -- definitely piss-worthy.
Surprised that stayed in the set list as long as it did.

Yes you are correct as usual! I was thinking it should of been on that list because it was only paid twice but not by request in DC, SFM was the request that night.
