'They weren't at all greedy': Glastonbury founder Michael Eavis reveals Rolling Stones won't be getting huge fee to headline this year's festival
By Daily Mail Reporter PUBLISHED: 01:53, 25 June 2013 | UPDATED: 10:34, 25 June 2013 The founder of Glastonbury has refuted claims that money was behind the Rolling Stones' decision to headline the festival this year. Michael Eavis said the band was ‘not at all greedy’ and that it may have been thanks to his late wife asking Mick Jagger at an awards ceremony. The Rolling Stones will be headlining the Pyramid Stage on Saturday at the famous festival. It was the mud: Glastonbury founder Michael Eavis denied rumours that it was money that enticed the Rolling Stones to headline this year's festival Mr Eavis was asked why the veteran rockers finally agreed to perform at 'Glasto' and strongly denied that it was thanks to the fee. ‘It's supposed to be a big money thing. But in fact they weren't at all greedy,’ He told the Radio Times. He said: ‘There's always a wishlist, and only the best bands are on it - about 20 of 'em. And we've been ticking 'em off and ticking 'em off. The Rolling Stones were the only ones that were left.’ He added: ‘We ask every year! I saw Mick Jagger at the Q Awards years and years ago, and he was standing halfway up the stairs - perched on a ladder there on his own - and (Eavis's late wife) Jean said, “I'm gonna ask him to play.” 'I said, “Oh no, no, you can't do that, you can't talk to these people.” And she went straight in there - 'Why haven't you done Glastonbury?' And he said he'd never been asked. Well, he was asked then. ‘Jean asked him definitely point blank right there! She went straight up, handbag in her arms!’ Rock legends: Mick Jagger, center, Keith Richards, Ronnie Wood, left, and Charlie Watts, right, will take the Pyramid Stage at Glastonbury Festival on Saturday Eavis is said to have revealed that the band's set will include a metal phoenix, thought to have hydraulic wings, affixed atop the Pyramid Stage. Meanwhile, Sir Mick is said to have been studying DVDs of every main stage performance for the past four years. He told the magazine: ‘Festivals are great to be at, but not always the easiest things to play. 'You've got to try and make sure that first number really cooks... That first number's got to be something you're super-confident with. It's no good doing a slightly unknown number that the audience isn't gonna deal with.’ The frontman, who picks new acts to duet with, told the magazine: ‘I like to be a bit more open-minded about things. 'I think Keith sees the Rolling Stones as very much a conservative rock band. As he's got older his ideas have become more conservative.’ Big party: Headliners for Glastonbury 2013 include Arctic Monkeys, Mumford and Sons and Rita Ora Eavis, who wants to continue running the festival for another seven years, said it was a good thing that that the event had taken a break last year due to supplies being stretched by the Olympics. ‘Three inches of rain that weekend! We would have had it - we would have gone completely bust. You can't run this show with three inches of rain. We were so lucky,’ he said. Eavis, who delayed construction on one area of the site because of nesting birds and has boasted that this year's toilets ‘won't smell’, said: ‘We can go to two inches (of rain), but after that it's impossible. 'And we've got the Olympics to thank for that - because the year before should have been the year off. It must have been divine intervention.’ Read more: http://www.dailymail.co.uk/tvshowbiz/article-2347783/Glastonbury-2013-Michael-Eavis-reveals-Rolling-Stones-wont-getting-huge-fee.html#ixzz2XE7pQhRt Follow us: @MailOnline on Twitter | DailyMail on Facebook |

Bittorrent baby...! They will start showing up on Friday and most will be out in a week or two...there was no Glasto last year because of the Olympics...this is the only festival I know of that broadcasts so much of the show...I have the dvd's to prove it!:)
I need to go to their website and see who else is going to be there, rumors earlier in the year had Fleetwood Mac with the closing slot on Sunday. |

Although it had not been popular for a long time, it is my favorite opener they've ever had and I was so excited on that tour because I thought they would do something like that on the next tour and I think we got Satisfaction in Chicago- big disappointment. At any rate, I was in DC on the first night of Voodoo Lounge and the fans absolutely loved it because the beat and the whole entrance and dancing was outstanding. And what a way to introduce Darryl Jones. If Mick wants something that cooks he should go back to something like that. |

Rolling Stone Sir Mick Jagger still loves his ladies
WITH his ex-wife on his right and his current squeeze taking his other arm, Sir Mick Jagger certainly knows how to keep the ladies in his life on side. By: Elisa Roche Published: Fri, June 28, 2013 Mick, 69, Bianca Jagger, 68, and L’Wren Scott, 46, were among the starry guest list at the Serpentine gallery’s annual summer party in London. Fashion designer L’Wren sported a gold gown from her own collection, teamed with an uplifting balconette bra. Completing the family scene were Jagger’s daughters Jade, 41, and Georgia, 21. Supermodels Kate Moss and Naomi Campbell were also at the bash on Wednesday while Sex And The City star Sarah Jessica Parker brought some Stateside glamour. Other guests included Princess Beatrice, Eva Herzigova, Daisy Lowe, Jeremy Irons and Ewan McGregor. But for Sir Mick, it was back to work after the fun. He was off to Glastonbury to join the rest of the Rolling Stones as the legendary band prepare to make their first appearance at the festival in their 50-year career. http://www.express.co.uk/news/showbiz/410870/Rolling-Stone-Sir-Mick-Jagger-still-loves-his-ladies |

Stones' big role
Record numbers expected for Glastonbury show Taking the Mick ... Jagger mask on Glastonbury punter By GORDON SMART, Showbiz Editor Published: 11 hrs ago PUNTERS were getting into the Stones spirit, by turning up in MICK JAGGER masks. Others wore KEEF RICHARDS ones as THE ROLLING STONES are sure to pull in the festival’s biggest-ever crowd. Organisers are extending the boundary around the Pyramid Stage as around 200,000 fans want to see their first performance in Glasto’s 43-year history tomorrow. Boss MICHAEL EAVIS said: “There might be a problem with the size of the crowd – so it’s slightly worrying for me.” http://www.thesun.co.uk/sol/homepage/showbiz/bizarre/4987589/Record-numbers-set-for-The-Rolling-Stones-at-Glastonbury.html |

BBC live stream link :
http://www.bbc.co.uk/events/ej58q9#b036bdjs (I dont know if this will work outside of the UK, you may wish to try it with other acts during the day and report back! ) You'd probably be able to catch it if you connect to a UK based proxy server. The Stones are due on around 9.30 pm UK time but its expected that only an hour or so of the set will be broadcast. Details of TV and radio coverage : http://www.telegraph.co.uk/culture/glastonbury/10144395/Glastonbury-2013-TV-and-Radio-listings.html Note that there will be reruns of the performance afterwards. Ok..BBC dont normally legally allow streams from outside the country. Its the same for me when trying to watch streams of US shows sometimes.
I'd have thought though that the message would have been along the lines of 'not available in your country' so you might wanna try again later or tomorrow. Maybe someone can advise on the proxy server thing. There'll also probably be 'unofficial' live streams popping up tomorrow. Will post any links if I can get them. |

If you are not in the UK but are in europe with a decent satellite dish you ought to be able to get the audio of at least the first hour on BBC Radio2 plus I am guessing that the first hour might be on BBC red button TV. Scan your stb at 28e and look for station ids 6390, 54380 and 54381. These are SD. There may be others. (Sorry to be vague). The only HD one is 8900 but that is highly unlikely to be showing Stones.

Title: Re: Glasto! Post by Gazza on Jun 29th, 2013 at 7:33pm
It starts about two hours before The Rolling Stones come onstage - hordes of people, normally milling around merrily, are now purposefully heading towards the Pyramid Stage. By the time Mick, Keith, Charlie and Ronnie appear, the crowd has swelled to fill the entire field - backs to the food stalls and all.
As the Stones launch into "Jumpin' Jack Flash", the response from the audience is huge, but swiftly followed by calls of "turn it up": once again, the volume at a major gig is too low. Luckily, the sound improves, though that isn't the only surprise of the night - for their fifth song, the group debut an acoustic country-folk song, "Glastonbury Girl", which Mick Jagger claims to have written last night after being inspired at the Shangri-La area (or being inspired after listening to "Factory Girl", more like). It features the immortal couplet "waiting for a girl/her wellies are bright green", but thankfully is soon followed by an extended version of "Can't You Hear Me Knocking", featuring a velvet-jacketed Mick Taylor churning out some inspired guitar solos. Taylor returns for an epic "Midnight Rambler", alongside Bobby Keys, who plays on much of the set, including an energetic "Brown Sugar". There is Keith's customary solo slot too, with some tasty slide guitar from Ronnie Wood - "not too shabby," says Keith. "Huh huh huh." During "Sympathy For The Devil", flame spits from the roof of the stage as a giant mechanical bird unfurls - the Stones really don't do things by halves. They leave the stage for a disconcertingly long time, before the London Youth Choir appear for the intro to "You Can't Always Get What You Want". "Satisfaction" ends the set, the slightly depleted audience going crazy for both the song and the fireworks that close the show. Of course, there's little danger in a Stones show nowadays - they're consummate professionals after all, and some of their arrangements are disappointingly polite - which seems a strange fit with Glastonbury's more ragged, relaxed atmosphere, and like most 135-minute sets we could have done without a few songs (for me, "Doom And Gloom" and "Miss You"), but the sheer weight of their near-peerless back catalogue makes the gig a success - with Mick Taylor's guest appearances a real highlight for fans. "After all these years they've finally got around to asking us," crows Jagger early on in the set. "Thank you, Michael." Glowing review. Especially from Glasto owner Michael Eavis "..the high spot of 43 years of Glastonbury. They finally did it, and it was fantastic. My God, did they deliver." But who makes these rumours up. Adele or Bruce Springsteen were rumoured to guest? Granted, Bruce is playing London tomorrow but he happened to be performing in Paris tonight. Idiots. That intro 'music' must have been quite something to behold! |

The Rolling Stones completely ruled that stage. The drumming of Mr. Charlie Watts during Midnight Rambler was awe-inspiring.
There isn't a better band on the planet. These guys are at the top of their game and I love it! |

Charlie smiled all throughout that gig!
Anyone catch Mick mention Otis Redding during Satisfaction? Also, that girl at 1:04:59 is good looking! I think this band is really going to knock everyone for a loop at Hyde Park. |

It's a nice Sunday morning when I spend it watching last night's Stones concert!! I Love that moment in 'Midnight Rambler' where Woodie gives Taylor his slide and Taylor does a slide solo on it---I think that's the first time this tour that Taylor has played slide! And 2000 Light Years From Home's opening was botched but they had a nice recovery and when Mick and Charlie nailed the second verse opening perfectly by contrast the smile they exchanged was priceless! It is moments like that keeping me a fan! They had the crowd eating out of the palm of their hand and I guarantee some young British folks will be increasing Stones music sales in the next days!! :smilemick

Taylor had a slide during that 12 minute + MR in Philly #1 - he kept it on his pinkie and was switching between slide and lead. I have had a chub since.... |

The Rolling Stones at Glastonbury: 2.5 million watched on BBC TV
(Photo : Richard Johnson/NME) A peak audience of 2.5 million people tuned in to BBC Two to watch The Rolling Stones' historic Glastonbury set on Saturday (June 29). Official figures from the BBC said that 1.4 million people watched Arctic Monkeys' set at its height on Friday night (June 28). The BBC are streaming performances from the six main stages live online and have confirmed that one million unique visitors have watched their coverage during Friday and Saturday – up 87 per cent on 2011. The Rolling Stones last night made their debut appearance at Worthy Farm on the Pyramid Stage on the second day of Glastonbury 2013. The set included 'Gimme Shelter', 'Paint It, Black' and 'Brown Sugar' and the encore included 'You Can't Always Get What You Want', where the band were joined by an all-female choir. They finished with '(I Can't Get No) Satisfaction', at which point red ticker tape was released above the crowd. Mumford and Sons will bring Glastonbury to a close tonight with their Pyramid Stage headline set. Other artists appearing today (June 30) include The xx, Smashing Pumpkins and Phoenix. John Lydon will play live with Public Image Ltd, while Kenny Rogers will play Glastonbury's traditional Sunday afternoon legends slot. Nick Cave & The Bad Seeds, Cat Power, Bobby Womack, First Aid Kit and Deap Vally also play. Read more at http://www.nme.com/news/the-rolling-stones/71161#RBqV6J6m4mm8wrZ6.99 |

Side note: The similarities between the Stones' 50th and Counting Tour with The Beach Boys 50th Tour from last year continues to mirror each other. Both tours surpassed any super-fans expectations, both tours reunited former members and both tours garnered fantastic reviews from critics and fans.
And now: both bands played immensely popular music festivals and both groups owned it...the Stones took Glasto and The Beach Boys nailed Bonnaroo. Crazy similarities! The Beach Boys at Bonnaroo last year; |

Seen all the songs from MY onwards (and JJF). Absolutely bloody amazing! The crowd seemed to lift the band a foot off the ground, and in turn, the band seemed to send the crowd insane. It was goosebumps for me! 2,000 light yrs was a wreck, but I could see Jagger fiddling with his mic pack on his pants, so maybe he couldn't hear himself. And during Brown Sugar he twice asked the lighting guy to "turn the lights on Patrick". The phoenix was kinda lame-o to me, but might have been cool at the show. Mick & Keith just will not stand near each other the whole show. Jagger was simply amazing during "Satisfaction". After over 2 hrs, and he's jumping around like mad. ANd he nearly backed into Keith at least twice. Imagine a guitar being swung at Mick on live tv! They must really loathe each other. But maybe thats good, as they blew the crowd away & made me feel proud. On a bad note though, I had to sit through 5 hrs of the BBC international version last night on our "UKTV" channel, and there was no Stones whatsoever. Cannot believe these Mumford & sons people are popular. Read them described as "a bunch of geography teachers" and cant help but agree. Didn't like their digs at the Stones too. And the old BEEB is quick to take shit down. Still haven't seen/heard "Glastonbury Girl". What a hoot! Hyde Park should be amazing. Fingers crossed Oz 2014 happens.
