Justifiably, these boards are lacking any sort of enthusiasm tonight...
Even on East Coast time at that...I was hoping for more RO banter and stuff... I can't say I blame folks for not hanging out, the band itself is lacking ANY sort of imagination and even the introduction of a gem like WAY is not enough to garnish any sort of buzz tonight. It seems that folks are more eager to wait and comment on special guests than they are of the band itself. Had there been a Bieber or other ridiculous or even a notable guest, you know these boards would have been a blazin'! |

Sometimes the thought of the sheer delights of Charles' tappings etc. leaves one strangely silent yet sensually satisfied, ParaA. It's extraordinary how fit-as-fiddly the band's looking. Apart from MTaylor's splendid back-ache pantomime during one of the shows' closing bows, the seeming lack of any weariness or injury is shortly noteable. No one has gone arse-up over one of Mick's tossed maracas, or anything. Mick-Jagger-and-Keith-Richards.jpg (Attachment deleted) |

Nice set list!
Was in San Jose this week for a hearing and one of the young court graphics guys we use just caught the first Anaheim show. First time he saw them. Got $85 tix the day of the show in the nosebleeds and at the 3rd song, he got moved down front! He was floored -- his dad was a huge fan, so he knew their music, but he was amazed how good they were! Warmed my heart to hear it. |

Unless, of course, you’re the Rolling Stones. The bad boys of British rock returned to the Air Canada Centre on Thursday night to perform for more than 15,000 fans and frontman Mick Jagger, who gave our embattled Mayor Rob Ford a bit of hard time the first time the Stones were at the venue with their 50 and Counting Tour on May 25, couldn’t resist commenting again. “It’s great to be back here,” said Jagger, 69. “Anyone from out of town? Oh yeah, well, you’re welcome in this city. (Just) don’t mention the mayor.” At the first show, Jagger quipped about the ongoing Ford crack cocaine scandal: “We’re not going to do any jokes tonight about the mayor. It’s much too easy a target. It’s a big cheap shot. We’re going to crack on with the show.” In response, on the Ford brothers radio show, Rob’s brother Doug commented that remark was like “the pot calling the kettle black,” given the Stones’ own drug woes in their storied past. Otherwise, Jagger proved to be not only quick with his tongue but light on his feet — Prancercise anyone? — during the Stones’ two hour and 15 minute performance, part of their North American trek to celebrate their 50 years as a band. (The only other Canadian date so far is Sunday at Montreal’s Bell Centre.) In fact, Jagger, joined by the group’s core of guitarists Keith Richards, 69, and Ronnie Wood, 66, and drummer Charlie Watts, 72, reminded the crowd that Friday was the 50th anniversary of the Stones first single, Come On, a cover of a Chuck Berry song. “I can’t really remember much of it,” said Jagger before attempting a few verses and eventually giving up: “See, Charlie remembered!” The set list, meanwhile, was mostly the same with a few deviations and new songs as the band opened with Get off My Cloud, just had they had previously, on their huge iconic lips and tongue stage that boasted a giant catwalk and enormous back screen. There was no special guest on Thursday night like there had been on May 25 when Carrie Underwood showed up to sing It1s Only Rock And Roll, but in the end, it didn’ t really matter. The Stones were the show. Standouts proved to be such dark classics as Paint It Black, Gimme Shelter — with special mention again of backup singer Lisa Fischer’s ridiculously good voice, and Sympathy For the Devil; Richards taking over on lead vocals on You Got The Silver and Before They Make Me Run; former Stones’ guitarist Mick Taylor stealing the show with his jammy playing on Can’t You Hear Me Knockin, Midnight Rambler and Satisfaction, the final song of the night; the Cawthra Secondary School Chamber Choir singing on You Can’t Always Get What You Want and my personal fave Tumbling Dice. “Ladies and gentlemen, good evening,” said Richards during his turn at the mic. “Hey, thanks for showing up.” New song additions included the fan choice, Worried About You from 1981’s Tattoo You, with a falsetto-voiced Jagger playing the keyboards and admitting: “I had to go back to square one and relearn this one.” The Stones, rounded out by bassist Darryl Jones, keyboardist Chuck Leavell, backup singer Bernard Fowler and saxophonists Bobby Keys and Tim Ries, also played Rocks Off from 1972’s Exile On Main Street, which they hadn’t at the earlier Toronto show. If this is, in fact, their final tour — which no one in the band has said it is — they went out on top, leaving the crowd wanting more. Five differences between the Rolling Stones’ two concerts in Toronto
Brad Wheeler The Globe and Mail Published Friday, Jun. 07 2013, 4:06 AM EDT Last updated Friday, Jun. 07 2013, 4:10 AM EDT So take them to the airport, and put them on a plane. We should have no expectations of them passing through here again. At the Air Canada Centre on Thursday, the Rolling Stones gave their second (and final) concert at the venue on their current “50 and Counting…” tour. Much was similar to the long-in-the-tooth band’s first appearance on May 25 Mick Jagger sang of threatening storms (on Gimme Shelter ) but did seem overly concerned. Blues of the honky-tonk sort were executed swingingly, and the mobile, extra-slim singer wore an ostrich-feathered H.R. Pufnstuf cape as he expressed Sympathy for the Devil . The show was juiced-up and sloppy; a crowd was giddy and satisfied once again. But if much was the same, there were new flashes and altered glimmers too. Here are five things which differed from the first concert to the second. Worried About You : The deep cut from 1981’s Tattoo You was the choice of online voters at rollingstone.com, where fans have some set-list say. On the languid and lounge-y soul-blues number, Jagger played electric piano and sang in a squawking falsetto that was high, raw and exposed. Guest Star : Where the big-voiced Nashvillian Carrie Underwood dueted with Jagger on It’s Only Rock ‘n’ Roll (But I Like It) for the first concert, there was no star parachuted in for show number two. Can’t You Here Me Knocking : Former lead guitarist Mick Taylor, brought back in small nightly doses for this tour, stretched out like Carlos Santana on the sprawling Latin-grooved jam that makes up the song’s second part. He fumbled initially, and never did match the finesse of the recorded version from 1971’s Sticky Fingers . It was as if Taylor was trying to fit in all the notes he missed over the years, having left the band in 1974. Rocks Off : If sunshine bored the daylight out of the Stones back in ‘72, perhaps it is now band rehearsals that leave them yawning. The choogling opening number from Exile on Main St . was energetically rendered but seemed woefully unrehearsed. Before They Make Me Run : Instead of his signature Happy , the grey guitarist Keith Richards sang gruffly and struck the choppy chords of this defiant rocker recorded during his drug-busted days of the late 1970s. “I wasn’t looking too good,” he barked dryly, “but I was feeling really well.” Which seemed about right. The Rolling Stones play Montreal’s Bell Centre, June 9. |

LOOKS LIKE THE CASHMERE BULLSHIT TRAIN IS STILL ROLLING:
The Rolling Stones Perform First Single For 50th Anniversary by Paul Cashmere on June 7, 2013 The Rolling Stones very first single ‘Come On’ was released exactly 50 years ago today (June 7, 1963). To mark the anniversary The Stones performed the song at their Toronto concert tonight and it was indeed a rare occasion. In total, The Rolling Stones have only ever performed ‘Come On’ eight times in concert in 50 years. ‘Come On’ was originally written and recorded by Chuck Berry just a few years earlier in 1961. The Stones recorded their version on May 10, 1963 and released it on June 7. Officially, it was still June 6 when The Stones took to the Toronto stage. “Tomorrow our first single COME ON was released 50 years ago, I don’t know if I can remember the lyrics,” Mick Jagger said introducing the song. When Keith Richards was once asked about the song he said, “At the time it was done just to get a record out. The idea was Andrew’s – to get a strong single so they’d let us make an album, which back then was a privilege.” ‘Come On’ wasn’t the only rarity played at the Stones Toronto gig tonight. The Stones also played ‘Worried About You’ from 1981’s ‘Tattoo You’. It has only even been played 20 times by The Stones and only once ever in Australia on April 13, 2006 at Rod Laver Arena. Unlike other shows, there were no special guests for this show. The Rolling Stones setlist for Toronto, June 6, 2013 was: Get Off My Cloud (from December’s Children and Everybodys, 1965) Its Only Rock n Roll (But I Like It) (from Its Only Rock N Roll, 1973) Paint It Black (from Aftermath, 1966) Gimme Shelter (from Let It Bleed, 1969) Worried About You (from Tattoo You, 1981) Rocks Off (from Exile On Main Street, 1972) Emotional Rescue (from Emotional Rescue, 1980) Come On (first single 1963) Doom and Gloom (from GRRR, 2012) One More Shot (from GRRR, 2012) Can’t You Hear Me Knocking (with Mick Taylor) (from Sticky Fingers, 1971) Honky Tonk Women (single, 1969) You Got The Silver (Keith Richards on vocals) (from Let It Bleed, 1969) Before They Make Me Run (Keith Richards on vocals) (from Some Girls, 1978) (from Exile On Main Street, 1972) Midnight Rambler (with Mick Taylor) (from Let It Bleed, 1969) Miss You (from Some Girls, 1978) Start Me Up (from Tattoo You, 1981) Tumbling Dice (from Exile On Main Street, 1972) Brown Sugar (from Sticky Fingers, 1971) Sympathy For The Devil (from Beggars Banquet, 1968) You Can’t Always Get What You Want (from Let It Bleed, 1969) Jumpin’ Jack Flash (single, 1968) (I Can’t Get No) Satisfaction (with Mick Taylor) (from Out Of Our Heads, 1965) http://www.noise11.com/news/the-rolling-stones-perform-first-single-for-50th-anniversary-20130607 |

Great! Worried About You
Sometime I wonder why you do these things to me Sometime I worry girl that you ain't in love with me Sometime I stay out late, yeah I'm having fun Yes, I guess you know by now you ain't the only one Baby, sweet things that you promised me babe Seemed to go up in smoke Yeah, vanish like a dream This song is one of the BEST! But the lyrics always make me laugh because it shows MICK/KEEF do NOT really understand women! Do they really have to wonder why the woman here is not really in love and not keeping promises? The answer is in the next line ~ because she ain't the only one! Because if MICK/KEEF really knows a woman mind they would NEVER say that to her face! And since they did they should expect to get treated like they are crap! One of my favorite all time lines: Just like your burned out cigarette You threw away my love Why'd you do that baby? Dude she did it because MICK/KEEF are lowdown womanizers! Its so simple to figure out the reason! |

When Jogger does falsetto he's sometimes, I presume, playing a female role, sometimes presenting a feminiised male character, sometimes teasing a black woman, other times teasing whites impersonating blacks... etc. etc.
'Worried 'Bout U' is, like most Stains ditties, a lot knottier an multi-angled/charactered than people realise. Bianca is no doubt in there somewhere, but if I'm right in presuming Worried was written with Billy Preston, then the 'girl' in the lyrics could mean a teenage boy anyway/too. Yes I remember seeing Billy with the Stones at MSG in 1975 or 76 and I'm pretty sure Billy got to play 2 of his own songs, That's Life and Outta Space? Anyway his boogie-funky style went well with the Stones blasting the stage which rocked the world and inspired some serious grooviness. Yes I said groovy. I used to say that back in the day, haven't said it in years, but it was groovy, man! |

Good show in Toronto last night. Plenty of fun to be had. Got a cheap ticket and that brings my total for both Toronto shows to $350, so clearly those high ticket prices are merely "suggested retail price".
A couple of quick observations Get Off Of My Cloud I've found to be lethargic on this tour but that last night it felt like it had the right tempo for the first time http://www.youtube.com/watch?&v=Loy4aS8twT4 Worried About You was a freaking highlight, proving that an "obscure" song can be a hit with the crowd if the Stones sell it right on stage. http://www.youtube.com/watch?&v=0T8IhHqN0LY Rocks Off was a complete debacle, train wreck, one for the books. Maybe two weeks of rehearsals isn't enough! Ya think? Watch here...you've been warned: http://www.youtube.com/watch?&v=c0YI5dbTY-4 That really leaves a couple of questions enquiring minds want to know. How was the Taylor solo on Can't You Hear Me Knocking? Pretty decent I thought, but judge for yourselves http://www.youtube.com/watch?&v=CNdaAF01Jl4 And of course, how was the Midnight Rambler? http://www.youtube.com/watch?&v=80cMlTGq8tY One extra tidbit: Before Doom & Gloom, Mick mentions that today is the 50th anniversary of the release of their first single, Come On. He tries to lead the band in an impromptu version that lasts a few bars. "Keith can't remember how it starts", he says "and Charlie doesn't want to play it". http://www.youtube.com/watch?&v=mgL8ACjmhDQ Oh yeah, and they had a false ending on Satisfaction, and then started up a vamp on what sounded like "Everybody Needs Somebody To Love", but that only lasted a minute and then the show was over. |

Wow, what a complete fuck up on Rocks Off. Mick choked on that one big time.
I liked the little snippet of Come On... would've been cool had they played the whole thing. I'd love to see them take out something like Midnight Rambler (blasphemy, I know), but replace it with about four or five of the really early singles like Come On. After all, those early singles were what, 2 minutes long at the most? Never happen, I know... but I can dream. (And MT can play on something else instead of MR... wonder if he's sick of that tune yet?) |

Title: Re: TORONTO ON 6 June -Setlist, Pics Rumors & revi Post by WaiteringOnAFiend on Jun 7th, 2013 at 10:15pm I've never quite understood why they've appeared to frown on / avoid that proto Stones ditty, 'Come On'. (It has lyrical elements which prefigure Satisfaction & Get Off by two or more years.) Your idea of a few swift raucous early jiggy ditties played back to back is a pleasey dreamy one. Maybe Come On, Mona, Walking The Dog and (if there's no kiddies in the pit) Andrew's Blues for good/bad measure. pity_pitney.jpg (Attachment deleted) |

Jeez, you really me worried. Rocks Off was far from a debacle. Yeah, Mick went into the chorus too soon. The band held it together, Mick adjusted, and it finished strong. That ain't "one for the books." More like another day at the office! :nooslajaleisk |

<<< Oh yeah, and they had a false ending on Satisfaction, and then started up a vamp on what sounded like "Everybody Needs Somebody To Love", but that only lasted a minute and then the show was over. >>>
I would be interested in seeing / hearing that. I expirienced the same sort of thing in Charlottesville 2005...at the end of Midnight Rambler...something really weird happened...as if they were going straight into another song...Mick turned around and flashed a grinning Ronny and Keith something of a fierce look and it all just STOPPED. I also tend to agree...that RocksOff was pretty bad...but so was the recording of the sound...it HAD to have sounded better live than presented in that vid... ALSO...I am too lazy to search for it...but did they even REHEARSE "COME ON"??? |

A VERY nice version of "Dead Flowers"...and Ronnie pulling off a refreshingly vibrant solo. He usually phones in this solo in but not this time..Mick seems to especially enjoy it...the whole band sounds great.

'Miss You' - not 'Worried About You' - was written by Jagger and Preston in Toronto in early 1977 when they were playing El Mocambo. Whilst 'Worried about You' was recorded for Black and Blue originally and then overdubbed for Tattoo You, Preston doesnt play on it. (he's on 'Slave' on Tattoo You, though, from the same sessions). 'Worried About you' was actually performed live at the El Mocambo shows - four years before they released it. |

he announced an exclusive in 2009 that Charlie had left the band. Even when the Stones office dismissed it as rubbish, he insisted it was true and that when the Stones toured again he'd be proven right as theyd have a different drummer. Months later he was still insisting it was correct. Fuckwit. I'll have to find the story in the archives! Edit - found it. Here ya go : http://rocksoff.org/messageboard/YaBB.pl?num=1251877030/0#0 |

I'd sort of meant written with, at least, Billy P's influence and presence (as so much was in the mid-ish '70s). All my books are at the end of the garden and it's too windy to nip out at the mo for research purposes, but the wiki page (for what it's worth, or not worth) on WAY says Billy played electric organ, and the (admittedly cacophonous) fan tapes of the 1974/75 Rotterdam sessions/play-backs led me to feel BP was very much 'in da house'. Apologies if I'm talking out of my Bourneville Blvd. Who do your ears suggest did the keyboards on WAY - Nicky H?
