(By the way, following up on way before.... I made it into Toronto 1 on the Gazza plan, hung outside the venue trying to find a desperate scalper and checking Craiglist when ten minutes before showtime... a new Craiglist post came up with a pair for $300.
e-tickets were e-mailed to me on faith by the guy and we got in and ended up in sec110 - side stage at the front of the pit 11 rows up...for $150 each.  Saw the show with my dignity and pocketbook intact. And yes, we sent him the money after the show)

The incident was a train wreck performance of "Rain Fall Down" from the gig in question which was shown live on the American Music Awards.

Fans (voodoopug especially) were traumatised for weeks afterwards.

All Stones lyrics seem, to me, splendidly nuanced and layered and multi-meaninged, and become more so with age.
That's one reason why, to me, it's more than interesting for the RSs to explore 'As Tears Goes By' with Taylor.

Gazza ... I really can't deal with Taylor Swift normally. When I heard she was the guest ... I literally almost vomited. I never cared for her at all ... and I think she is manufactured, overrated, and "weak/lame".


However ... I at first refused to watch it... BUT eventually my curiousity got the best of me and I decided to hit play and do myself in ...

Gazz ... I gotta say ... it was "Gulp" ...not too shabby and I actually stomached it. It was at least done tastefully, and for the first time, I actually could listen to Taylor Swift. Look.... Gazza what difference does it make if you listen to it or not? I lost that image I had of the Stones when Timbershite got up and sang with them and Keith showed his love for the fans. At any rate, it was straight from the sewer so whether you listen to it or not, it's still shit.

I contrast this with the performance at the Beacon for Shine a Light and it honestly feels like something unreal. I wonder what us fans who have followed them for so long and spent so much of our money would have preferred? The same people who gave me all the positives about Timbershite are probably the same people who think these ticket prices are fair and that Taylor Swift has them going back to their country roots.

Some of it is ok. Some of it is shit. Musically it could have been worse, but visually it's toe-curling.

She seems a nice, inoffensive kid and its nothing personal against her (or any of the other guests who have been ill-chosen), but she shouldn't be on a stage with the Stones. The buck stops with them. No one else.

There's no point to it. The argument that some cheerleaders are parroting that they're reaching out to a younger audience is nonsensical and negated by the fact that a) younger people cant afford their tickets, b) younger people cant see them on TV because the greedy insecure bastards wont allow hardly any of their Glasto performance to be televised in case the wider public think they sound like shit (which they don't, oddly enough - their shows have been really good), c) theyre not going to suddenly start buying their tickets because they announce at 6 hours notice that a guest artist is going to perform one song with them and d) they're not going to get turned on to the Stones by the meagre scraps and heavily edited clips that they're allowing on their You Tube channel.

Yes broke me up can be ether laughing or crying, I took his meaning as laughing. Smiling can be contagious and if you see someone smiling you smile right back automatically. Someone laughing gets us laughing too even in the darkest hour. Love and laughing in bed with your lover is the opposite of tears and death and a funeral. SWAY can be interpreted as moving from the dark side of death and tears to the bright side of love and laughter. MICK/KEEF swayed from tears to laughter. But the DEMON LIFE I always took literally as the actual demons in life, which in this case is drugs. Drugs that caused death, hence the funeral. Death could be from anything but I assumed someone died from a drug overdose because drugs get you in their grip and sway you from the joy of life to a living hell. Am I diggng too deep here?

I feel most Stones' lyrics shift gear/attitude/angle each verse, so they're (enjoyably) tricky to really get to grips with. In 'Sway' I've often thought of the 'demon life' - at least the one at the beginning - as a dead person whose life continues to affect one; as if family & friends departed/of the past continue to hold sway.
But you may be right that it's mainly about drugs. Certainly there were a lot of drug and/or death flavours in the Stones' songs around that period.
Sometimes I wonder how they deal with the memories when they return to some ol' tunes.
I personally think there was something pretty poignant about them returning to 'As Tears Go By' and letting a young woman sing it with them and using the song to reflect on the past, on their (joint love for) Marianne, on the beginning of their song-writing, and on watching young folk doing things they did years ago.
