WHY? Unless they capture the amazing shining moments of one guest who has been along the entire tour, it's absolute waste of media space!!! :wow |

Well, they better fill that box with 1 or 2 other full performances because the guest performances won't take up more than 1 disk of space. They've had a huge camera crane rig at stage right on every single show. They're obviously filming everything, either as a precaution or with the intent of picking the best of each show and creating a collage of different performances from each show.

Its certainly not wishful thinking...Wishful thinking would be more along the lines of a Keith solo record...

After last night's guest i think i'll skip this box.
Unless it's a really expensive limited edition boxset, with never before seen photos and a book & t-shirt. Then yes please, I'll take 2. |

After hardly writing any of the few songs the Stones have released since 1997, I dont get why Keith would choose to channel what songwriting chops he has left into a solo record instead. Unless he and Mick have pretty much formally agreed they'll never make another Stones studio album. |

All you refer to is A Bigger Bang...That's a Mick release almost completely. Now Keith's playing nice because he loves to tour... I think when he sits down and starts strumming, good things come out. I have very little interest in another Jagger solo outing where Keith plays along...His solo release would be true authentic Stones man! |

Well, three of the four Licks songs are Mick's. 'One More Shot' is Keith's and D&G is Mick's. The new lyrics on the Some Girls/Exile bonus songs were all Mick's. Stuff like Following the River, Plundered My Soul, Pass The Wine etc are all contemporary lyrics over old tunes. Since BTB (16 years ago), I would be surprised if the Stones have released more than about five or six newly composed songs where Keith has been the principle writer. Mick is also the only one of the two who has put out new solo material in that time. And thats not a big deal. Most songwriters run out of steam after a while. Its been a good run and I dont feel Keith owes me or any of us another note of music. Anything is a bonus at this stage. I just find it a bit odd that when he does get the opportunity to release newly written material (and in fairness, he's been talking up a solo record now for a decade or more so I'll believe it when I see it) he chooses to focus on a non-Stones project - because you cant exactly imagine him being productive enough to make a Stones album afterwards. |

_____________________________________________________ Gazza and you always say this ...but the concept of ABB being an all Mick Jagger writing affair is anything but true. Fact: Keith and Mick sat down and wrote much of this album "together" even closer than they had on Bridges to Babylon (source ...Don Was, Charlie, Ron Wood...and Keith). Mick even had to fill in on drums bc Charlie was not around...and nobody else was either just Don Was and and Krish Sharma (engineer). Mick DID have a few songs that were almost all his, but a few of them were written by mostly Keith as we found out later in interviews concerning who wrote what (see Rough Justice, and Oh No Not You Again) and some all together. Mick may of had the better percentage of the writing over-all... but Keith wrote some of his own and contributed very much during the writing process of ABB. Nothing in their interviews and the people who were there suggests anything different. They wrote together more closely than perhaps they did even on Voodoo Lounge for ABB (although it doesn't really sound like it bc the record had a different production style is all). Mick may of wrote the bigger percentage and had the most input (maybe 60/40 tops), BUT Keith was right there writing on the couch with an acoustic guitar ...WITH HIM on most of the songs... and wrote the better half on a hand-full of them himself according to accounts of the two of them and Don Was and Charlie (except for a few songs which were almost all Mick such as SOL as was said in an interview). According to sources, it was very much a combined effort in writing that album. The only people who say different are people on these message boards who have no real clue. Bridges was very much them writing separately in many (not all) songs and you never heard about how closely they worked together on that album bc they didn't work too closely. In fact, you heard the opposite, which was true. Gotta go with the folks that were there and by what they said in interviews bc, not only did they note they were writing together on ABB, but they noted they were writing and working closer together than they had in a very long time... I didnt say it was 'all Mick'. Munich Hilton kind of suggested it though in the post youve chosen to quote.
However its closer to it than any Stones album in history. Aside from (arguably) 'Some Girls'. Discussion has been done to death, Ian. You're pretty much the only person who takes this collaboration at face value. They're hardly going to say 'Mick was the main writer on about 14 songs. Keith on about 4, because he's burned out', lets face it. Of course they worked on songs and arrangements together. That doesnt mean they wrote them together from scratch. They dont even live on the same bloody continent. Jagger playing drums on a few early demos is irrelevant - he's not on the finished versions. Mick's also on bass on quite a few songs - he wouldnt be doing that on a song that wasnt primarily his composition to begin with. Keith hardly writes the finished lyrics for Stones songs anymore aside from the ones he sings on. Thats been the case several times in the past (even on Exile, an album which he seems to get the lions share of critical acclaim for, its been confirmed that the only two songs to which he wrote the lyrics were Happy and Soul Survivor). The only songs on ABB that are at least 50% Keith compositions are the two he sings on and probably 'Rough Justice' which has been widely accepted to be a bonafide collaboration. Maybe 'It Wont Take Long' at a stretch. About half the songs on the album are leftovers from the 'Alfie' sessions and/or have Jagger on bass or Matt Clifford's input - ergo, Mick songs for the most part or entirely. Check out the comments on Track Talk and see : http://www.timeisonourside.com/track83-01.html As life went on and we became - not living next door to each other, in the same room sometimes, we slowly had to learn how to do it from 3000 miles away. And, basically, since then we've worked the same way. Get a lot of ideas, and I send him, give him 5, 6 ideas and... First off, does it turn him on? (Laughs) You don't say, Write the lyrics to these! It can't be done that way. And does it turn you on, there's a couple of ideas here, do you want to expand on it? So in a way it goes like this. It's just done by more remote control these days, basically. But eventually you have to come together and decide. At the same time, in a way I miss the urgency and the closeness that was forced upon us in those days. At the same time, I quite care that we could get over of NOT being that close and still being to do things together. You just adapt and improvise... - Keith Richards, 2010 As a writer, you keep writing all the time. I don't live anywhere near Keith, so I don't have time to sit down and write with him unless we make writing dates. When we were on the road all the time, we had a lot of time to do that. But we're not like that any more, so we don't do it. - Mick Jagger, 2012 |

Ian do you write music/lyrics? i'm not patronizing here…. Not only is it an amazing process when two or more people do it together, it's also a situation where peoples egos will fight for their lives….
We know that Mick took over the band, when Keith was failing from drug use and problems… The conversation was simple, Mick (paraphrasing) told Keith, if it wasn't for me, you'd be finished. Keith's ego has been trying to recover, first by forcing his way back to gain control and now, retreating and making Mick have to force stuff out… this is pretty obvious by the creative output of the two over the past 25 years… This is kind of what Gazza is trying to tell you, by providing massive amounts of information… regardless of the band, money, history… these are two people, who have strong personalities and the pride and egos are fighting to protect themselves… it's a normal human trait… Mick has been more understanding, forgiving and willing to be amicable… Keith is the one making things crawl along and be difficult, it's all he has left… it's his way of controlling, otherwise, in his mind Mick won… what he thinks mick has won, is basically Keiths ego lying to him, and his view of himself, that exists within him… Keith really isn't the easy going rasta pothead he tries to come of as… he's ust as insecure and gets hurt feeling, like everyone else… My take on it, Keith needs to get over himself, and stop competing with mick… Mick isn't even there, Keith is the only one in that race!!! it's stupid and pety… but will he realize it and change… doubtful, he has no reason too… he would need a jolt, and near death didn't even do it…. |

It's a matter of opinion, so almost no use in arguing it...The Rolling Stones are now Mick's band entirely. Keith is there to add some measure of authenticity but nothing more.
Keith solo would be a return to a sound the Stones had when they were his band. While a new Stones CD would be She's The Boss In The Doorway with a few Keith licks...again for authenticity... Like Gazza says though, as much as I would do backflips for a new Keith release...I'll believe it when I see it...and backflips are no small task |

Correct. Since 1989, Keith's co-dominant role in the band has gradually eroded at all levels. Basically a trade off to keep the band together. It has primarily existed on Mick's terms ever since. Musically - the song choices and sound of the band onstage has primarily been deferred to Jagger and Leavell in recent years. What new material appears on records is primarily written by Mick (although thats more a case of him being more inspired than Keith than anything else, in fairness) When it comes to organising a tour and deciding what size of show to put together and the business side that surrounds it, Keith's input was clearly behind that of Jagger and Cohl. With Cohl gone, it leaves Mick more dominant than ever. Make no mistake about it, after 'Life' it took a lot of humble pie to be consumed to get Mick to work with Keith again. Keith's hand in the band IMO was significantly weakened even further as a result. |
