Title: The Rolling Stones in Philadelphia Thread Post by Steel Wheels on May 24th, 2013 at 11:15am
I'm pretty excited the Stones are coming to visit me in my home town of Philadelphia. Is anyone else going to the shows? Make yourself known!
If anyone has questions about Philly, how to get around, where to go, where to stay, use this thread. I'll do my best to answer questions. |

Title: Re: The Rolling Stones in Philadelphia Thread Post by Steel Wheels on May 25th, 2013 at 6:52am
I'm looking forward to meeting everyone as well!
And you'll be able to identify me pretty easily - I'll be the guy WITHOUT PANTS!!! I'm pretty stressed about how the lottery will work. It's my understanding I will have to wait in (what will be) a long line and then once I get my ticket, I have to go right inside. Is that how everyone else understands it? I don't see how people can hang out in parking lots or see the Glimmer Twins at XFinity unless they have regular tickets. I've seen photos of the lines in California and it was pretty unreal. I'll be taking Septa to the concert, since the Broad Street Line drops you off at the corner where the show is. I wouldn't dare dream of driving to the stadium area from points north of the city. Two major exits on 95 are closed, and at some points it's a two lane highway that creeps along at under ten miles an hour due to the congestion from the construction. That area is north of the city, but it's a chance I'm not willing to take. I was in it last week and quickly ruled out driving south on 95. For those of you staying in Philly, let me know if you need help navigating your way to the show on public trans from your hotel. Like I said, the Broad Street Line subway runs right to the stadium area. That's how I'll be doing it. PM me or just ask in this thread. |

Hello all,
I'll be at both Philly shows and The Glimmer Twins. I once stood right next to "Mick and Keef" at the Grey Lodge in the Northeast before they played a small theater a couple of years ago. I know they're just regular guys, but they were made up, ready to go on, and I felt like a 12 y.o. standing next to them not saying anything. Total nerd. Anyway, my cousin Scot will be flying in from Sacramento for the Friday show. He will be bringing the spirit of our late departed buddy Jimmy Whitley (Cardinal Fang). Gonna be pretty bittersweet. We used to hang out pretty constantly when I lived in Sac., going to see all the shows that nobody else would (Sylvain Sylvain comes to mind as well as Byron Berline-any connection was enough of a reason to go), then he actually became better friends with my cousin after I moved to Philly. Our last shows together were the Hollywood Bowl shows (As Tears Go By was great, but I really jammed to It Won't Be Long). I still feel shock when I think of Jimmy not being here. Just seemed a permanant fixture here on Spaceship Earth; but just goes to show there is nothing permanant except change. Very much looking forward to meeting up and putting faces to names. See you all there! |

Title: Re: The Rolling Stones in Philadelphia Thread Post by Steel Wheels on May 31st, 2013 at 9:21am
I have lottery tix. I have no idea how this will work. Once the tickets are handed out, you have to go right inside. I'm not fucking around in some parking lot. I think meeting INSIDE the venue is the way to go, and not outside. It's going to be over 90 degrees on the blacktop out there. Forget that. I need my energy for the show.

Steel Wheels. If you have an 85 dollar grab bag it does not matter when you pick up your tix. They are in an envelope w your name on them. Does not matter if your first in line. I picked up my tix for Chi 1 15 minutes before the show started (about 8:40) and got Pit. It is all random.

I do have two tickets for sale for Philly #1. If anyone is interested, PM me for details.
My main focus is getting inside the venue and trying to meet fellow Rocks Off members. I'm so anxious about leaving the house and getting there on time, getting my tickets, everything. Standing around a blacktopped parking lot in June isn't my cup of tea - I've done it for sporting events there and it's too fucking hot even at night. I know the Glimmer Twins are awesome, but I'm seeing the real thing next door so I'll be skipping them too. I cannot wait to see THE ROLLING STONES. |

I posted some useful links at the very top. Xfinity Live is the huge bar/restaurant/entertainment area, where the Glimmers are playing. It's in the same parking lot as the Wells Fargo Center - it's on the corner.
There are tons of places inside the Wells Fargo Center as well. |

I haven't received any private messages about these shows. If you think you may have questions, get them to me soon. I have a feeling I'll be super busy once the Stones arrive in my city.
Please note that the city's public transportation (SEPTA) can be very confusing for those riding it for the first time...even with the fact one line runs north and south (the Broad Street line) and the other east and west (the El). There can be delays, so plan accordingly. If you plan on parking near the stadiums, it usually runs about 15-20 bucks. There are heavy delays leaving the area, up to 30 minutes for Phillies games due to congested parking lots. The Washington Nationals and the New York Mets are in town next week which usually brings more fans to the area. What I do is park near City Hall and then take the Broad Street Line to the stadiums. It's very very easy. |

Is subway the fastest way? thank you |

Title: Re: The Rolling Stones in Philadelphia Thread Post by Steel Wheels on Jun 11th, 2013 at 8:16pm
After the show you'll take the Broad Street Line (AKA the orange line) to City Hall for the free interchange to the El (AKA Market Frankford Line.) You have to find the staircase up that reads Westbound t0 69th Street. You'll take that staircase and follow signs for the El. You'll take the El WEST towards 69th street. Once you get to the 30th street stop, get off there. You'll have to go up to the sidewalk, and then walk over to 30th street station.
I suggest that you get to Philly early so you can take a good look at the transit system and remember it for later in the evening. It will take over 30 minutes, maybe longer, to get to 30th Street Station. The big thing to remember is that trains do NOT LEAVE THE STADIUM AREA until FULL. I've left games early just to sit on the train for upwards of 15 to 20 minutes before it starts up. Meaning it wasn't worth my time to leave the event early. |

Better than Kanye or any Philly Hip Hop. HTW could use a little jolt. Mix up the second half of the set. Or maybe our SV will finally get her Sweet Virginia!!! |

Thanks for the advice Steel Wheels.
My train is just after midnight. It looks like I'm going to be cutting it close. Does anyone know if there is a taxi stand by the arena and if this might be a faster alternative? Thanks again. |
|
Title: Re: The Rolling Stones in Philadelphia Thread Post by Steel Wheels on Jun 13th, 2013 at 8:22pm
Anytime!
There's no taxi stand but there should be plenty of taxis. I suggest you find a taxi and tell the driver in clear language to get your ass to 30th street station. Ask him "Can you get me to 30th Street Station super fucking fast?" The dude that says yes, take that cab and close your eyes. Do check the El schedule on the Septa website I posted above. 30th street is ONE stop beyond 15th street (which is AKA City Hall) You might make it if the concert ends at 11PM. If you have more questions I have answers. That goes for everyone coming to my city. Ask me here or in Private Message. |

I just got back from the Wells Fargo Center. The ride on the Broad Street Line was fast and the air conditioning strong.
I was able to see the merch trucks unloading 50th anniversary stuff. The Flyers/Sixers store is being remade into a Stones store. There were piles of tee shirts and posters just sitting on top of boxes out in the open. The two sidwalk stores are huge. As in HUGE. Easily they are some of the biggest trailer stores I've ever seen. The 6 big rigs are parked out back, and they were joined by a purple one while I was eating lunch. I saw three workers figuring out how to handle the lines. I spoke to another - the dress rehearsal is tomorrow afternoon. The heat was unreal. It was so hot that it melted some tar on the blacktop and got all over my left shoe!!! So I stood in the parking lot shaking my left leg around to get the tar off. I guess you could say it's sort of a left shoe shuffle kinda thing. Xfinity Live is very nice. If you plan on getting a table or a booth, call ahead. They plan on being booked up from 5PM onwards. The arena is under lockdown. There's not a single door ajar. Ladies and Gentlemen, the Rolling Stones are in my fucking city and I couldn't be happier. |

Just got this email from Stones, Inc.:
TICKET PICK-UP INSTRUCTIONS Pick-up your tickets at the Will Call tables located on the North side of the venue (near parking lot H), next to the VIP entrance. Look for the red and black balloons. Seating locations are pulled at random. The line forms starting at 5:00pm – do not arrive early. Doors open at 6:30pm. We will be using strict anti-scalper measures to ensure that these $85 tickets go to Stones fans and don't end up on the resale market with wildly inflated prices. We appreciate your attention to the following, so that you have the best experience possible: •Your picture ID, confirmation number, and the credit card used to make the purchase are required for pick-up. You will not be permitted to pick up your tickets without these three (3) items. •You must pick up your tickets in person, along with your guest. •If we suspect any reselling or transfer of these tickets they will be immediately voided and you will not be entitled to any refund. Parking and Driving Directions are found here: WellsFargoCenterPhilly.com Enjoy the show! |

"It was so hot that it melted some tar on the blacktop and got all over my left shoe!!! So I stood in the parking lot shaking my left leg around to get the tar off"
Got to scrape that shit right off your shoes! Thanks for the heads up -- hopefully by this time tomorrow, we will have had a drink together! |

HAHAHAHA!
This was good ol' American road tar. The kind that turns to glue in hot weather. If I decided to stop walking, the shoe would have become glued to the ground. |

"I think the entire Board has my phone number!!!"
Half of Philly has your number! Anyhow, Steel Wheels, I am not really sure where I will be or when. I expect to get to Philly by about 2pm and get a bite to eat. Thinking Tony Luke's. Then, depending on weather/time/etc, I expect to hit the party in the parking lot -- should be a big turnout of a lot of people. Then if the mood strikes me, I may hit XFinity. |

I wonder who was actually in charge of the inflatable penis in 1975?
Did it always work? Did it ever shoot the confetti prematurely, like when it was still tucked away under the stage. That would have made a huge mess, all that confetti blasted everywhere! |

OK I cant wait to see you guys later and The Stones are gonna rock Philadelphia tonight!! I'm not sure if The Glimmer Twins are playing inside or outside because of weather issues, its cloudy now and they are calling for a 60% chance of rain so it could go either way.
