May as well start a new thread for the show itself.

Seems like old times doing so.

I'm off to my pit as its almost 3 am here, so I'll leave it up to you lot to update the setlist, listing the guest appearances etc.

That's actually one of the better versions I've seen of Beast of Burden. I actually think Katy did better then most of the females they drag on stage. Woody particularly seemed good on that tune tonight.

I like giving everyone a chance, even crap like Katy Perry that I can't stand, but I'm stumped at how you think this is good. This is one of the worst versions of this great song I've ever heard, if not the worst. Ronnie, who has been outstanding so far, played a totally crap solo. I've heard him play stuff on this song that is out of this world and I always look forward to it specifically for his playing, but this was awful. Katy Perry gave the song no personality or flavor. Utter crap.

Oh for gawd's sake, Wickle - can the Stones not have a lady accompaniment nowadays without her being dismissed as strumpet-lite?

My dear garcon, I could give a toss about her being a strumpet. It's her music that I can't stand. Sing it like they do in football stadiums: she's shit and you know she is.

That said so happy they got ADTL in Vegas for my dearly departed friend Raining Blimps (a former Vegas resident).

And I think Katy did a fine job on BOB. Her tits also did a great job and I'm sure L'Wren and Sally were scathing on the sidelines.

The "vote" was definitely rigged. NO WAY BOB WINS OVER MOONLIGHT MILE AND SWAY  :nooslajaleisk

Not so sure on that...i know this is now a technology based society...but I figure it is mostly the younger crowd that would even think about DL an app like this...and BoB would be the song they know...at least way ahead of MM or Sway...
I could be wrong...but that is how I am looking at it...that and the fact that it was disregarded  for Ms Perry...like it was already in the set list for her.

I cannot even imagine that Chuck sits down and  puts together these sets on a nightly basis for Jagger's approval...It has got to be more of ..."Setlist A...B...or C...
which one tonight Mick?"

I was a on a bus to Vegas at 11:30am Saturday morning...got in at 5:30pm and headed straight to the venue.  Before I knew it, I was watching another Rolling Stones concert.  Then later, no less than an hour after the show ended, I was on the next bus out of Vegas to get back home.  We left Vegas at 12:30am and I walked into my place at 6am this morning.  Oh the things we do for the Stones!

It was a fine show.  Even though it wasn't a set that was going to blow the roof off the joint, I am still mighty impressed with the level of playing here.  I still can't fathom that "Emotional Rescue" is a permanent staple in the set every night.  That's pretty unbelievable.

I got in with a friend who had an extra $85.  After we got our tickets without any hub bub about wrist bands, I knew we didn't have Pit tickets.  And we didn't.  We looked in the envelope and we had Section 218.  This was at 8pm on the dot...we even waited a little later because we kept hearing how better tickets became available closer to show time....but here we were...and we stillgot nosebleeds.  Ths stuff is as random as it gets, folks!

We head up to our seats and they're so far into the corner it's almost BEHIND the stage.  Absolutely no view of the screens but an ok view of the band (see video below).  "You Got Me Rocking" went over pretty good.  I actually dig this song a lot so I was very happy to hear it.  Keith screwed up getting from his solo to the verses again and there was a mini traffic jam.  It didn't faze Mick..he took control and just went into the verse.  When Katy came out for Beast of Burden, I let out a huge audible SIGH.  But like it or not...she actually nailed it.  I have no patience for people going up there and hamming it up and doing the bare minimum to get their few seconds with the Stones but I actually saw a very well rehearsed and exciting performance from both Mick and Katy.  And hey we got TWO Ronnie solos...lovely. No doubt I would've enjoyed Chuck Berry but alas.

Right when "Doom and Gloom" came up, I took that as an opportunity to see what I could do for an upgrade.  I walked down to guest services and asked if they had anything at all better.  The guy said "well, I dunno.  Not really."  He showed me the map and said he had some seats over here and there.  He gave me one for section 11 or something, which I went to check out and they were lower floor seats at the end of the floor in the back.  People were actually SITTING.  WTF?  Plus the vibe was all wrong...the lady I saw next to seemed to doubt I belonged there.  How dare you sit amongst us who paid $600 for these tickets!  Away with you, peasant!  So I headed back to guest services saying that someone was in my seats.  He said the only other ticket was Section 115. So I took it.  Ended up being first row of that section right UP against the tongue Pit.  The row was half filled and I realized that it was because one would have to really look OVER the tongue pit to see the stage.  But I'm tall enough so I had no problem with this at all.  In the end, I was VERY pleased.

It's quite a unique feeling to be a few feet away from the Stones.  As Keith or Mick walked passed me, I felt that same exact feeling when I saw them back in 2002 at the Aragon Ballroom or when I was right in front of the B-stage that same year.  When they walk by, I have to remind myself, "Oh holy shit...that's fucking Mick Jagger.  That's fucking Keith Richards man!  Right THERE."  They looked almost too real.  It's such a weird feeling but I never feel that with any other artist that I see live.  As Keith stood in front of me I had to remind myself that I wasn't watching a DVD or a clip on YouTube--this was real life.  When we're that close to them I'm sure we all think to ourselves "oh Mick totally looked at me" or "Ronnie definitely saw me waving at him."  And of course we all know it's our own mind believing that these things happened.  They of course make everyone feel this way.  It's a certain way about them.  But for the record, Mick totally DID look at me and I'm pretty sure Ronnie did see me wave at him.! ;D

As Keith strolled around the pit for his solo during "Sympathy" I greeted him with screams, yells and smiles and we locked in and he threw his pick at me.  The pic went flying UNDER the rafters.  I looked and looked all over the floor and there was nothing.  The ushers all turned on their flashlights and looked...nada.  The guy next to me also looked around and found nothing.  I stepped off my row and literally went on the floor and searched on my hands and knees under the seats for it.  I could not see a damn thing.  Had it vanished?  Apparently it did.  After the show ended, the lights went up and I again returned to the floor using one of the ushers flashlights.  I looked carefully at every inch of that floor.  Beer cans, scraps of papers, dust and dirt but no pic.  And then right there off to the middle was the white pick laying there.  I reached for it, full arm inside and the pic was no more than 3 inches away from my finger tips.  I reached and reached, almost popping something in my neck which was pressed HARD against the steel rafter.  I used a beer bottle to pull the pic forward but nothing.  The main usher was demanding I leave.  He didn't care at all about the pic..he wanted me out.  I run up asking a cleaning crew member if he could help.  He said he'd try.  He went all the way down, got on his knees and looked.  I made my way down there and he said it was not here.  One of the ushers looked over at me and he had the pick in his hand.  I thanked him profusely.  He was able to reach in there further than I could, he said.  I was elated.

That was my night.  It was a memorable one and even though I'm dead tired today....I'd do it again!  Here are some shots I took!

I predicted this result.  The vote wasn't rigged; it was set up.  Either "Sway" or "Moonlight Mile" by itself might have had a chance, though "Beast of Burden" is the only one known to the masses and not just we Stones aficionados; but together they split the serious fan vote, making BoB inevitable.

The guitars sound more bone-dry than they ever have. I realize Keith and Ronnie like to keep it simple, but a guitar straight through a Twin is awfully limited as far as tone is concerned.

The sound guys occasionally used to put some effects on Ronnie's leads. You can hear it on "Beast of Burden," Miami '94, and the "Flashpoint" recording of "Start Me Up," for example. His chops are not terrible, but the tone is just too one-dimensional. Give that man a tasteful touch of delay and overdrive, and you'd get a better sound.

And Keith ... listen to "Midnight Rambler," Atlantic City '89, versus today. It's the same guitar and, as far as I know, the same or similar rig (the Boogie cabs were just for show by then, right?). His playing is not appreciably different, but everything sounded so much more full-bodied then.

I don't know. Some will curse me for saying this, but I think the band is actually too technologically stripped down!

I don't know. Some will curse me for saying this, but I think the band is actually too technologically stripped down!

Out of the 15,000 people that go to each show. How many to you think, stop and say,you know what. This band just isn't technologically sound?

No, average fans won't stop and say that. But they will say, "Man, that sounds like shit."

Thanks for the kind words, everyone!  Here's one more shot I forgot to include that's one my favorites.  Everything about the picture is wrong:  completely out of focus (one of the issues when trying to capture Mick!), the colors are off, and it's zoomed in too much but something about this image fascinates me.  It's Mick in mid-run, and to me, he looks incredibly youthful.  At a glance, he looks like himself from the late 60's and it appears like he's got a big shiny belt on but it's just a little optical illusion due to the light bouncing off the bottom of his shirt.

As much as Keith has upped his game on this tour, Mick's singing and more focused performances (less on dancing) has really helped the show too.

An article I had forwarded to me...just thought I'd share.

By MIKE WEATHERFORD
LAS VEGAS REVIEW-JOURNAL
Stick around for 50 years and you make a lot of friends and a few enemies. So we came up with 50 reasons to love/hate the Rolling Stones. As you might guess, the love outweighs the hate.

1. Hate: They’re old.

Let’s go straight to the elephant in the room. My 13-year-old thinks they look ridiculous. So do a lot of people at this point.

2. Love: They’re old.

“Bands have never toured at our age before because rock ’n’ roll isn’t old enough to have elder statesmen in it, like you have in jazz and country music,” Bill Wyman (yes, the one who retired before he could be an elder statesman) once noted in an interview.

“If we can’t take it a bit further down the road we’d be chicken. Let’s find out. Nobody’s taken it this far,” Keith Richards agreed in the same interview. And that interview? It was in 1989!

3. Hate: The ticket prices.

It’s always been the ticket prices, hasn’t it? Even when they first played the MGM in 1994, tickets were $100, $200 and $300, compared with $30 to $55 in other cities.

4. Hate: They actually seem proud of those ticket prices. “It’s America. We’re not living in a socialist society where we’re all paid so low and no one can afford it,” Mick Jagger told Forbes in 2002.

5. Love: At least they deliver.

“They’re paying good money to come and see you, I don’t see why you should disappoint them just being difficult and say ‘I don’t want to play ‘Brown Sugar,’ ’’ Jagger once noted. “There’s about 10 of those (songs).”

6. Love: They don’t worry about packing in every hit, and as a result their shows still seem fresh and surprising.

In 1999, for example, the “Some Girls” cuts “Respectable” and “Before They Make Me Run” made it instead of “Miss You” or “Beast of Burden.”

7. Love: The tongue logo.

8. Love: Making people pay attention to old American bluesmen.

9. Love: “(I Can’t Get No) Satisfaction.” “He’s tellin’ me more and more about some useless information.” The simple distorted guitar riff and disgruntled lyrics still ring true after 47 years.

10. Hate: Why don’t they just freakin’ play a Sam Boyd Stadium show already, so everyone can go?

11. Hate: Their aging fans. They only go to concerts once every few years — usually, when the Stones tour — squeeze into embarrassing leopard-skin tights (see: Cover of “No Security”) and ignore fine opening acts such as Queens of the Stone Age.

12. Hate: Making us sit through opening acts. Really, Sugar Ray? (In 1999 at the MGM.)

13. Love: The way they start off a song with a bang. “Start Me Up” would be the obvious example, but even a later rocker such as “Mixed Emotions” knows how to hit the ground running.

14. Love: How many times did critics say they’d already made their last great album? Hmm. There was “Some Girls” in ’78, “Tattoo You” in ’81 and, after 31 years and 20 albums, “Voodoo Lounge” in ’94, which reinvigorated them and made them a working band once again.

15. Hate: They’ve been around so long that “A Bigger Bang” would have been a good album if they hadn’t made so many great ones already.

16. Hate: Taking that “Beatles are the good boys, Stones are the bad boys” thing too far by trying to answer the “Sgt. Pepper” album with “Their Satanic Majesties Request.”

17. Love: Sing along now: “I was born in a cross-fire hurricane ...”

18. Hate: Because someone actually went and made “Jumpin’ Jack Flash” into a Whoopi Goldberg movie.

19. Love: “Ah think I’ve busted a button on my trousers, I hope they don’t fall down. ... You don’t want my trousers to fall down, now do ya?”

20. Love: The guys who recorded “Exile on Main St.” are still alive.

21. Hate: Because everyone scratched and scraped to get into a “Bridges to Babylon” concert, while those who actually bothered to buy the “Bridges to Babylon” album have long since buried it somewhere (“Saint of Me” is still worth a download though).

22. Love: Because Charlie Watts never needed the giant rock star kit with the two bass drums and all that.

23. Hate: “Have You Seen Your Mother, Baby, Standing in the Shadow.” That whole weird thing with Bill Wyman and his son marrying the daughter and the mother.

24. Love: Because “Miss You” was the only disco song that, in the parlance of the day, did not suck.

25. Love: The sidemen. Darryl Jones playing bass since Bill Wyman retired in 1993, so he’s only been a temp for 20 years now. Man, can he lay down a groove. Then there’s ...

26. Love: Bobby Keys. The sax on “Live With Me,” “Brown Sugar,” etc.

27. Love: Chuck Leavell. The Stones never had an official keyboard player. Unofficially? It’s been this guy, since the early ’80s.

28. Hate: Altamont. Smooth move, asking the Hells Angels to provide security at your free festival. Dec. 6, 1969, marked the end of the age of innocence and of high hopes for the Woodstock generation.

29. Love: “Gimme Shelter.” Now synonymous with Altamont, and any Big Moment in a movie or TV show about the ’60s. How would Martin Scorsese have scored his films without it?

30. Hate: Jagger in the movies. “Ned Kelly,” ’nuff said.

31. Love: Richards in the movies. Especially alongside Johnny Depp playing him.

32. Love: Brian Jones playing marimba on “Under My Thumb.” Heck, Jones playing slide or dulcimer or mellotron or recorder or any of those other instruments that sweetened the sound of those early Stones records.

33. Hate: Brian Jones drowning in 1969. (Technically, we don’t hate the rest of the Stones for this. We just hate that it happened.)

34. Hate: That “Goat’s Head Soup” inner sleeve photo was, and is, really disgusting.

35. Love: Mick Taylor. John Mayall suggested Bluesbreakers guitarist Taylor to replace Jones. He played on the dirty-drug era of “Let It Bleed,” “Sticky Fingers,” “Exile on Main Street” and, of course, “Get Your Ya-Yas Out.” He’s supposed to be joining the Stones for some songs on this tour. Let’s hope one of them is “Sway.”

36. Hate: Ronnie Wood replacing Mick Taylor. We respect his longevity and think it’s cool that he paints. But for guitar fans? Wood is good, but Taylor was great.

37. Love: Ronnie Wood and Keith Richards together. Now we’re talkin’. They effortlessly trade lead and rhythm duties, fit together on a stage as though choreographed and, as the years roll on, they are beginning to look more and more like each other — and like old saddles.

38. Love: Charlie Watts’ dapper cool dress code, and even if no one really asked him to, and that he formed a big band to play standards.

39. Hate: Charlie Watts looking bored and thinking about his next jazz project during a big stadium show.

40. Love: Some girls who turned up just at the right moment on an album or show over the years: Merry Clayton, Marianne Faithfull, Tina Turner, Sheryl Crow, Lisa Fischer and, most recently, Florence Welch on “Gimme Shelter” at the big 50th concert in London.

41. Love/Hate: Richards’ singing voice.

42. Love: “Salt of the Earth.” Let’s drink to the hard-working people. The Stones never have to play anything but their hits, and they can’t get through all of those in any given night. But they wrote some great songs that people simply forget about. Like this one.

43. Love: Without Richards to keep him honest, Jagger would likely have gone off the deep end in the early MTV era, with more albums like “Primitive Cool” or the “Dancin’ in the Streets” thing.

44. Love/Hate: After all that heroin, all those cigarettes, Richards almost kills himself by falling out of a tree?

45. Love: “You can bruise it but you can’t break it,” Richards told an MGM audience in 2006, having a laugh about the tree thing.

46. Love: The country songs.

47. Hate: Covers of the country songs by country singers; i.e., Travis Tritt “Honky Tonk Women.”

48. Love: Truth in labeling (we hope). Their first album in the States was subtitled, “England’s Newest Hit Makers.” The new tour is called “50 & Counting.”

49. Love: Richards’ biography, “Life.” It’s 547 pages.

50. Love: “Time is on my side, yes it is.”

Nor did I.
Though I must admit that back in 1969, after seeing pics of Keith wearing those python-leather boots
I got me a pair of these.

Enjoyed the show at MGM from the $85 nosebleeds.....

Sympathy presented the worst guitar work I have ever witnessed !  :wtf3  :forfucksake :aimama

Discordant, disjointed rubbish lacking any degree of harmony except for the wooo, hoo, wooo, hooo's !!

Otherwise the show was ok!

What happened during the opening chords to Gimme Shelter in Vegas, did Keith drop his guitar?:)

We've all heard Keith hit bum notes before, but never quite like that. Sounds like notes caught under finger/between frets. The big problem, however, is that his tone overall sounds like crap. I'm not quite sure why.

I appear to have been banned from commenting on the Stones facebook.  ;D

I presume it may have been to do with my suggestion that the webvote was rigged so they could play BoB with their special guest, that the brief snippets they're uploading on Youtube are substandard, poorly mixed and pointless,  and that inviting guest performers based on the fact that they share the same record label isnt one of their more credible ventures.

Banned from posting under the 'Rocks Off' account user name too (they must know who I am, at last...lol). Still have the RO admin Unholy Trinity account though. They've even removed my comment, it seems. A bit hyper sensitive of them as theres plenty of fans posting criticism on there - maybe it was the combination of vote-rigging ('by request, my arse'), corporate skullduggery AND the fact that I think whoever is editing their videos isnt very technically adept that struck a nerve.

First time I've ever been kicked off a forum. I feel honoured. If a little 'dirty'.

The Stones' official one. Not sure who does the admin (although if you read the posts, there appear to be millions of idiots who think that the band are manning it 24/7)

Locked myself and everyone out. Within five minutes we were getting loads of indignant 'why was I banned?' e-mails. Gerardo fixed the problem which meant that the guy we kicked off had to be briefly 'unbanned'. Long enough for him to post again and call us 'stupid fuckers' which I thought was hilarious. Before we banned him again properly ten seconds later.
