Title: Vegas Guest: Katy Perry
Post by SweetVirginia on May 11th, 2013 at 3:10pm
Stones just tweeted that Katy is the guest tonight.
Why can't we just have Mick T do several songs instead of these painful pairings?

Wait, its Katy Perry INSTEAD OF MICK TAYLOR???   Very few Stones fans are interested in KP, nevermind her ta-tas!

WTF? At this rate I'll get Will Smith for Philly #1 and Who The Fuck knows for Philly #2.

Jesus fucking Christ.

Vegas audience gambled and lost big time tonight for sure.

Very easy on the eye, sure, but fuck me, this is turning into the X-Factor.

After the Raitt/Fogerty pairing this really is a case of from the sublime to the ridiculous.

Will Smith opening for Stones?  Yikes!

Maybe in DC, they'll get the former Secretary of State to open...she and the Mr. are big Stones fans.

Is anyone else getting the impression that these guest appearances are shaping up to be the material that'll be used for the live album/DVD of this tour?

If so, its a horrendous concept that needs to be strangled at birth.

Either that or all the guest-appearance footage will wind up on Youtube to drive advertising revenue.. Some time somewhere, money'll be made.

I'm starting to count myself extremely lucky to get Clapton at the 29th Nov O2 show. I don't really mind who guests at Hyde Park (if they even have one) - Gary Clark Jr opening for them will do jusssssst fine.

I thought the guests at the 02 shows were top notch and , more importantly, added to the proceedings.

Speaking of you tube footage, how bloody awful has the Stones official channel's footage been on this tour so far?

Two or three minute clips with a few seconds of badly mixed concert footage mixed in with cliched fan soundbites that have been done to death thousands of times before now. What gimp edits and uploads this worthless crap?

The band sound far better on some of the audience footage I've seen.

Yeah the Youtube sound quality's been dire. I think the stuff they're uploading now is all processed quickly so it can be licensed out to media people asap. It'd be good to see some full length-songs uploaded though...

This seems alright - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=goUIRe3B5_0 but you can tell when Charlie comes in that it hasnt been mastered properly

let's see...

Rolling Stones - UMG

Keith Urban - Capitol Records (part of UMG)
John Fogerty - Capitol Records (part of UMG)
Katy Perry - Capitol Records (part of UMG)
Gwen Stefani - Interscope (part of UMG)
(not forgetting Lady Ga Ga who was a guest in 2012 - Interscope (part of UMG) )

Bonnie Raitt - Redwing Records (part of Sony Entertainment)
Tom Waits - - ANTI (part of Epitaph Records)

Hmmm...think I see a trend developing here. Shouldn't be much trouble getting label clearance for an album of duets.

Horrible idea if it's even being considered. Especially as a live album.  The ultimate 'pandering to the masses' corporate friendly release.

Philly is too close to NJ for comfort, SW - I think you're gonna get The Singing Poodle.

The promoter and ticket prices and Mick and Keith's voracious appetite for the green are picking these guests. I wonder if Keith will start swearing at fans again for throwing bottles at this utter crap they invite on stage with them. It's all about the music man, we do it for the fans. . . sorry, I just violently vomited.

I had this exact same thought- At this point I can already see the packaging for this as the Rolling Stones 50th Anniversary tour featuring a line up of guest stars including Eric Clapton, Bruce Springsteen,Lady Ga Ga, Katy Perry, Bonnie Raitt, John Fogerty etc. etc. To me the give away is the fact that I believe almost every star has played on different tunes-it makes it easy to promo all the different songs rather than have 10 different females singing on 10 different versions of Gimmie Shelter.

I can even see the packaging-the monkey climbing the Empire State Building with all the different stars looking up at him from the Observation Deck on the 86th floor with GaGa in one hand and Perry in the other!

Its awful music.  Really bad.  That whole genre of drawing out long notes whether it makes sense or not.  She tries to throw in a few warbles to show soul every now and then.  Terrible stuff.  That "baby, you're a shining star" thing that was hot last year.

They only cool thing about this woman is that she's pissing on her whacked out Christian parents by dressing and acting like she does.  I admire that.  Any time you can piss off a Christian, you are doing god's work.
