Talk about making this difficult for those of us that have to travel.
I'd love to see this show but cannot cough up 500.00 for plane fare when the show may be rescheduled due to Hockey playoffs. And it's on a Monday. Vacation time in the Summer isn't that easy to get last minute. They have really fucked the fans over this time. :wtf3 :forfucksake |

You mean people not only have to book tickets - but airfare, hotels and time off work in mid-summer too? And you expect to know the exact date of the show more than a few days in advance? Honestly - you'd think you fans would be a bit more considerate and live in the real world! :P Interesting wording on the band's facebook page just now on announcing this show... "the Rolling Stones will play Verizon Centre in DC on June 24th. Tickets go on sale Monday, May 13th at 10 am ET. Could this be the last time? " To the best of my knowledge, they've never used that bait before when announcing a show. A sign of the times that they're finally doing so to shift tickets. |

Not sure if its been mentioned before but this little footnote on the TM page is interesting !
US $150.00 - US $600.00 US $150.00 Ticket + US $21.90 Fees = US $171.90 US $600.00 Ticket + US $40.00 Fees = US $640.00 Prices subject to change So, basically, they're accepting that theres going to be a bit of a facedown between the fans and the band/promoter to see who blinks first. |

Title: Re: Washington DC 6/24 Post by nankerphelge on Jun 13th, 2013 at 2:05pm
Actually, today is pretty much over, so we start counting from tomorrow. But tomorrow is a rock and roll holiday, and so really, we start counting from Monday. But then we can suspend counting during the Philly show, since we are seeing them. So counting restarts next Wednesday, so tomorrow is one, Monday is two, next Wednesday through Friday is 3-5. Again, another weekend, which we can't count because it is a rock and roll holiday, then the show. So five days!
I like my math... Oh and from WTOP here in DC: "The District's Department of Health has released the patient application form for a medical marijuana card. Qualified applicants who also have a doctor's recommendation can then legally go to the soon-to-open dispensaries in the city." |

The last time in U.S. for Rolling Stones?
The Rolling Stones perform the final show of the US leg of their 50th anniversary tour, and possibly their last show ever, as a group, in the US. by Mike Snider, USA TODAY WASHINGTON – If this was to be the last time for the Rolling Stones to perform in the U.S., the band left fans with a blast of Satisfaction. That song, the Stones' first track to hit No. 1 in the U.S., served as the finale for a 2 hour-plus whip-smart set of 21 songs spanning five decades. An always-energetic frontman, Mick Jagger preened across a mammoth stage underneath a giant set of psychedelic lips. He took several turns traversing a tongue-shaped walkway that surrounded a pit full of standing fans at the front of the stage. So did guitarists Ron Wood and Keith Richards, who acknowledged fans while nailing riffs during Sympathy for the Devil, and regularly smiled and seemed to be having a good time. He tossed off his patented line: "It's great to be here. It's great to be anywhere." While some $85 tickets were made available, there were seats priced at $650 or more. But fans such as Mike Allen, 37, of Cleveland, were happy to be in attendance. Having seen the Friday show in Philadelphia, he decided to head down the line to the Washington show, too. The band, he said, "is just unreal. The live show is the best." Whether this is the Stones' last U.S. show remains to be seen, but that possibility was "a selling point" for Allen. "Charlie is 72 years old, " he says. "But they are still kicking a--." Another fan Randy Bennett, 65, of Orcutt, Calif., hopes this isn't the last time he will see the band. "They were so good," he said. "They've stayed in reasonably good shape. Our generation ages a lot better." And the band sounded as good as in recent memory. Jagger spat out the lyrics for the still-ominous sounding Paint it Black, the third song of the night. During Satisfaction, Richards' playing cut through the mix like a buzzsaw. The nation's capital was the last U.S. stop on the band's 50 and Counting tour, which now goes to the U.K. Just before 9 p.m. ET as the floor lights dimmed, fans were stacked up five deep at the merchandise vendors, perusing everything from $5 key chains and $20 water bottles to $600 limited edition leather jackets. Nearly all of the items prominently featured the red lips and tongue logo designed by John Pasche in 1971. Over the past weeks, the Stones' set list had solidified with some shuffling of songs, depending on guest musicians and Richards' lead vocal offerings. On this night, no special guest was brought to the stage other than one-time band member Mick Taylor, who had rejoined the band for certain songs on this tour. For those who don't know, Taylor in 1969 replaced the late Brian Jones on guitar and participated in a prolific period for the band that included the albums Sticky Fingers and Exile on Main Street. Richards has enthusiastically ceded the spotlight to Taylor during numbers such as Midnight Rambler. In the documentary Crossfire Hurricane that is also timed to the band's 50th anniversary, Richard calls Taylor "a virtuoso." Taylor's presence on stage only added to the energy. "It was worth twice what I paid. I hope they play again," said Charles Plymale of Vienna, Va. "I don't see any reason why they wouldn't." SET LIST: Get Off Of My Cloud It's Only Rock 'N' Roll (But I Like It) Paint It Black Gimme Shelter Worried About You Street Fighting Man Emotional Rescue Doom And Gloom One More Shot Honky Tonk Women You Got The Silver Before They Make Me Run Midnight Rambler Miss You Start Me Up Tumbling Dice Brown Sugar Sympathy For The Devil Encores: You Can't Always Get What You Want Jumpin' Jack Flash (I Can't Get No) Satisfaction Copyright 2013 USATODAY.com |

Surprised? I'm not. While the truth may very well be different than how it all looks, Jagger and company don't really give a shit that Taylor is there. It probably wasn't even Jagger's idea, but the idea of the promoter. At my show they didn't even announce Mick Taylor was in the house. He just kinda...came out...and was quickly rushed off with a "Mick Taylor!". It's a wasted opportunity for sure, but like I keep bitching about - they just don't care. |

* Knew we were going to get "Night 1"-ed last night, but "Worried About You" was a pleasant surprise. First time I got to hear that in person.
* D.C. crowd was as pumped as I've ever experienced in my 15 years here — at least as energetic as Philly, maybe more. * I always say, with admiration, that the Stones are a "band band"; they're loose, often on a wing and a prayer. And the false start on IORR was as "loose" as you can get! * That said, they recovered quickly and played the tightest I've seen of the four shows I attended. * Keith, in particular, kept his stuff together. At one point during JJF, I distinctly saw him mouth the words "F*ck yeah" to himself. After last night, I *do not* see this band stopping. |

Thats a really good one-liner. Some of his quips on this tour have been very funny. Unfortunately, thats as topical as they get. They had a few days since that story broke to rehearse what would have been a wonderful tongue-in-cheek song choice for the occasion but clearly couldn't be bothered. Would also have been nice for the crowd at the last US show of the tour to have got something unusual (the song was only ever played on the 75 tour) |

Title: Re: Washington DC 6/24 Post by LadyJane on Jun 25th, 2013 at 7:03pm
I'm with Mel on this one.
I didn't feel gypped at all. Not one bit. Would I have liked more Mick T in lieu of a special guest?? Yep. Would I have cheered them dropping One More Shot for a rarity?? Yep. Would I have preferred to be home and not in the company of the greatest Band of all time and the greatest friends?? NO FUCKING WAY. The thing I'm taking away from the show is the memory of Keith's face. Keith flashed a smile to us at one point that was quite demonic. The wrinkled warrior who has stared The Grim Reaper in the face and made him RUN, flashed a grin that said "Ha Ha Fuckers". Nanky saw it. I'll never forget it. He smiled, flicked a pic into the crowd, turned around and kept grinding on his ax. I was in Section 105 directly opposite the stage. The band was tight. Ronnie and Keith on fire. I don't pay alot of attention to guitar solos but I did during Sympathy. Keef nailed it. Ronnie nailed it on SMU. Watts remains the strong engine and Jagger defies description. He has the entire arena under his thumb and his power is as strong as ever. Is this the end?? Didn't feel like the end to me, despite the tears that flowed during the final bow. They are just too good right now and they are having so much fun. The two shows I saw were worth every penny. I can't choose one over the other. Each one is special and I'm not making Sophie's choice. DC will always be special because it set the stage for a weekend of pure mayhem and laughter with my RO buds Nanky (and Mindy), TomL and my "roomie" SV. Great to have Maxmeister along for the ride (party bus that is) as well as Blinded and Shidoobees Holly and TongueLady Lori. And let's not forget the two special guests; Nanky's daughters. So lovely, so excited and such good sports. I don't think we embarrassed ourselves too much in front of them!! I'd like to add my thanks as well to everyone who provided us with reports and photos, especially SV and Justin. I'd also like to thank everyone for wearing your Mary pins so proudly. Her memory will live on in many pics. I felt her with me in DC during BTMMR. Keith said "Let's get back to business" and launched into it. I reached in my purse and grabbed Mary's Keith bracelet and held it up for the song. So on to England they go. Thanks boys. You still slay me 38 years after my first show. And you've found a way to introduce me to some really cool kindred spirits who truly know how to ROCK LIKE FUCK!!! |

It was wonderful seeing Taylor play with the Stones, its where he belongs. In my view, he should play on all the songs.
I wished they would have played played "I Go Wild" from Voodoo Lounge. |

Looking quite likely there'll be European arena shows later in the year. There's also talk of South America next spring. I get the impression - and the title of this tour suggests it - that's no specific 'end date' targetted for these shows. More a case of short bursts of touring a few months apart until they or the audience get bored/go bankrupt/croak (whatever comes first) with no 'long term' plan as such. So, for that reason, I don't believe for a second that this tour was the last time the Stones will perform in the US. The only real issue is that they might have to demand a bit less money for a promoter to make it worth taking a chance on. |

Although we didn't get the extras we expected, especially SV, Worried About You was a nice surprise. The IORR false start was no big thing, in fact it was kind of funny.
Keith and Ronnie were as strong as I had seen previously. It's hard to believe that they are playing better than anything in the 2000s. I had high expectations for the party at Nanky's. They were not met. Fortunately they were so far exceeded that there's not an adjective that I can think of that would do justice. As host and hostess, Al and Mindy are in a league of their own. Add in the supporting cast [well, you know who you are] and you get a weekend that was absolutely unforgettable. As the pics attest, the party bus was off the hook. The pub pre-party was crazy and fun as usual. It just never seems to be enough time to meet and say hello to everyone. It was great to finally meet Bitch and Factory Girl. Thank you to Sweet Virgina for the incredible Stones and posted party pics. And the unposted party pics?.......well, what happens at Nanky's stays at Nanky's. I can't say thank you enough to everyone that made the last 3 weeks so enjoyable. Oh and the Stones also. What's next? Rick Let them eat cake!!!!! |

So happy everyone had a great time...I am so sorry i missed it...I found out I would have gotten a free ticket in the pit too...bummer that!!
A side note...I was in Anaheim this weekend...I went to a bar across the street from the Honda Center...I asked about the shows...and the staff all said that the Stones fans were the craziest...loudest...and NICEST group they have had for a LOOOOONG time...big diff from the Hockey, BBall & circus crowd... |

Title: Re: Washington DC 6/24 Post by Ian Billen on Jun 28th, 2013 at 2:45am I still can't conceive why they couldn't have lower pricing and still do darn well. Such as three sets of tickets. $250, $150, $85. Whats the issue with those prices? Simple, effective, and semi-reasonable or understandable for today's bigger act value. They could still make money off those prices you'd think... right? .....Ian |
|
Title: Re: Washington DC 6/24 Post by Gazza on Jun 28th, 2013 at 6:12am
Of course they could. Its not rocket science.
An average ticket price of even $150 (still more than anyone else) still equates to a gross of about $2.3 million for each US arena-sized venue. But the Stones wont work unless they have a guarantee of $4.5 million per show. Sorry, I forgot, after Branson & Dainty pulled out, they settled for a lower figure of about $4 million per show with AEG. Its either pure greed or some kind of twisted desire to have a laugh at everyone's (considerable) expense. Factor in also that a sizeable amount of a Stones tour's overheads is underwritten by corporate sponsorship and add in the fact that their complex business arrangements mean that the four of them each pay about 1% in income tax, and it gives you a better perspective. It's not 'understandable', regardless of how a few cheerleaders choose to justify it. It's a pity, because these shows have been very good (in fact better than most of us (me included) thought they could still be capable of) - but with each tour their legacy is increasingly going to be focussed on this more than their music. |

Title: Re: Washington DC 6/24 Post by Bitch on Jun 28th, 2013 at 1:34pm
It was nice to have seen the Stones at the last US show of the tour, and always great to see so many RO and Shidoobee friends, we have a fun group of people. So now its off to London and possibly beyond, good luck to The Stones as they continue their 50 & Counting Tour may they continue to be blessed with good health and safe travels!
