Now we're talkin'.
Saying that, I expect a lot of 'WTF' activity and bewildered looks. It'd be great if he played 'That Feel' (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BbNg5_Jtd8k) or 'Hell Broke Luce' (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0Fju9o8BVJ8)with Keith as Keith plays on the originals, and theres also the songs Keith plays on on the 'Rain Dogs' album - although it'd be even more apt if he played 'Satisfied' off his last album (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xHn_Kb4Dz40) When i'm gone when i'm gone roll my vertebrae out like dice let my skull be a home for the mice let me bleach like the bones on the beach i'll be hard like a pit from a peach now the ground has a branch now the hound has a ranch the old tressel's just junk the edsel is on blocks the old said so... won't talk i'm a blimp that's straining, cut'er ties i'm a moth in training, flutter by huh... when i'm gone when i'm gone i said i will have satisfaction i will be satisfied i said i will be satisfied when i'm believing : satisfaction when i'm grieving : satisfaction when i'm shaking : satisfaction when i'm praying : satisfaction when i'm staying : satisfaction when i'm carousing when i'm a thousand i said i will have satisfaction i will be satisfied before i'm gone before i'm gone i will have satisfaction i will be satisfied i will have satisfaction i will be satisfied now Mr. Jagger and Mr. Richards i will scratch where i've been itching now Mr. Jagger and Mr. Richards i will scratch where i've been itching before i'm gone before i'm gone before i'm gone before i'm gone let me go back to the barrel let the bullet go back into the barrel let the bullet go back into the barrel let the bullet go back into the barrel let the bullet go back into the barrel before i'm gone before i'm gone i said i will have satisfaction let the bullet go back into the barrel let the bullet go back into the barrel take a left off the straight and the narrow let the bullet go back into the barrel before i'm gone I think the recently released Keith/Tom duet of 'Shenandoah' is a long shot, mind ! The folks on the twitter feed are saying jack white will be joining the band tonight...
Is this the thread for tonight..? Maybe they do another acoustic tune off of beggars' and Tom sings no expectations or dear doctor with the band. What a great tour gimmick-two live rarities a night, one acoustic, right before the new tunes... Waits was on dirty work-Harlem shuffle, right..? |

Indeed they do.
One thing I noticed with this particular angle in the video...not one band member really looks over to Chuck for any of the changes. I think that's remarkable. It was common for each of them to glance over to watch his cues when they perform this song.... but not tonight. Look at that: Charlie is glued on Keith...Mick is singing his guts out...Ronnie is paying attention and jumps in perfectly. Chuck still gives the cues as an insurance plan but he keeps his head down--and just plays his keyboard. I haven't seen the band this trusting and supportive of each other in a long, long time. |

I believe it was the same Friday. This is a very good thing, imo, and i said as much in my review of the opener. I also like that bobby has retaken the top horn slot; nothing against Tim, or Chuck, but they are in their rightful place now (again, my opinion)...

Thrilled to see ER remains in the set.
Will we ever see MT do more than ONE song?? UK fans will in Hyde Park but USA??? Not sure. Swap out Horses for Rooster with Waits and I'll take Friday's setlist. Who am I to complain tho? I'm just a spoled brat. :tongui I'd be happy to hear "Yankee Doodle Dandy" after 6.5 years of waiting. |

Whatever they did the to paper the room last night worked. Totally packed. Good show. Not great. Typical setlist. You have the designated ballad, designated rocker. The nugget. Keith's set, then warhorses. Stones 101. Maybe I'm jaded after 20 shows. They were good. But it certainly would'nt rank in my top 5. ER was awesome. ADTL and DF were too. BFTMMR was good. Rambler was great. It took about 5 seconds to realize Taylor was the best guitar player on stage. He was clearly enjoyong it and didn't appear to be in any hurry to leave the stage. Tom Waits? I'd rather hear Gwen Stefani butcher Wild Horses again then listen to Waits sound like he was taking a Joey sized dump when singing. But that's just me. As usual, they seemed to start a bit slow, then pick up steam when they got to the warhorses. Not bad,but expecting them to find the fountain of Youth at this point is unrealistic. On to San Jose. :booze :warhorse :keithpunky :willya

I've yet to be convinced that we will. I doubt we'll get anything different than the US. In fact, whilst I expect Taylor to play at the three UK dates, as far as I recall, there wasn't any mention of him when our shows were announced. Unlike the American tour. I think a lot of people were persuaded to pony up those high prices because of Mick's involvement in the tour. It was a good way of attracting lapsed fans. Seriously - how fucking difficult would it be to let him play on about three songs? Can only assume that he's getting the same treatment that Bobby Keys related to in his book when he said that the amount he gets paid per show depends on how many songs he plays on. And as we know, this tour is being run on a very tight budget and profits are already minimal. ::) |

Rolling Stones Feature Tom Waits on 'Little Red Rooster' Gravel-voiced singer joins rockers onstage at Oakland show Comment 2 By RJ Cubarrubia May 6, 2013 10:15 AM The Rolling Stones had hinted at the possibility of a few surprises on their "50 and Counting" tour, and they produced one last night when Tom Waits joined them onstage to sing "Little Red Rooster" at Oracle Arena in Oakland, California. The rockers dug into the blues classic, which appeared on their 1965 album The Rolling Stones, Now! A minute into the song, Waits emerged from the background, taking control of the mic and adding his unmistakable gritty growl. The Rolling Stones Offer Plenty of Surprises in Los Angeles Tour Kickoff The Stones' tour continues May 8th at the HP Pavilion in San Jose, California. They kicked off the outing May 3rd at the Staples Center in Los Angeles, where guests included Keith Urban and Gwen Stefani. Love the Tom Waits appearance. Thats how it's done.
As for MT: I can live with the fact that he doesn't play on every song, but just the one (and apparently always the same) song sends the wrong message. I'll be in heaven when the Stones decide to tour mainland Europe somewhere later this year WITH the master and I'll enjoy the 10 or so minutes he plays along, but there will be a voice in the back of my head saying 'there's a GREAT guitar player backstage probably more than willing to throw in some extra weight... Oh well...for now I'll even be happy with just a European Tour. I'll even buy a ticket if they swap MT for Dave Matthews (just kidding...please don't!) |

Two years ago, if someone had suggested the Stones would actually tour with Mick Taylor again,
and that Tom Waits would be a guest star at a show, I would've thought they were crazy. Sure there are still things to kvetch about - what the hell's the deal with dropping "Love In Vain" after the club show?? - but there are still amazing things happening. I'm more psyched than I have been in years. |

At $85 a pop, if the sell 17k to 25k in an arena, that still is around $2 million… only a tard accountant would fuck up a profit… now if the only reason to tour was money, and more money than before… this isn't happening. This isn't a not for profit deal, but they knew going in, this isn't about making money either. Bottom line, there's no great bottom line for the band, this isn't an altruistic adventure either, but they are making money and creating an economy for a few hardworking people. They could have just done nothing...
