because the 'knight in shining armour' rap may be the gheyest thing ever on a Rolling Stones record.

terrific bassline by Ronnie and sax by Bobby Keys though

So its not all bad.

Probably their weakest single up to that point in their career. It was the first Stones album that I bought on the day that it came out and I was incredulous when I heard the opening lines of what was the lead single.

I think it's pretty cool that the guys who brought us "Jumpin Jack Flash" and "I Can't Get No Satisfaction" also brought us "Emotional Rescue.  The songs are galaxies apart.  The song work for me because it's musically stimulating, lyrically hilarious and just overall sleezy.  That's one great combo.

Granted, the implications are all there that he is singing about/to another guy ( Truman Capote) ...but that was the NYC / Sudio54/ decadent 1970's, right?

I never literally took it as  a 'gay' song. I just always thought it sounded bloody creepy!

I've never really understood why 'Where The Boys Go' divides opinion so much.  I can understand why 'left field' songs like Emotional Rescue, Feel On Baby (which I love), Continental Drift (ditto), but a musically brilliant and lyrically funny driving rocker?

One of my top 10 Stones ever, and has been since the moment I first heard it on Radio 1 on a Jagger interview broadcast a few days before the record came out.

As an album, its a poor relation of two masterpieces released either side of it, but the sound on Stones records in that period (from the mid 70s up to about Undercover) has never been touched since. Chris Kimsey is the man.

I was just listening to "Where The Boys All Go" the other day (it's ALWAYS been a favorite) and I realized that the song was probably one of the most unStones-like, up-tempo songs they've done.  No real "riff" that it leans on or a groove, just a driving song that's a whole lot of fun.  If they played this, it'd beat any other obscure request of mine like "Emotional Rescue" "Time Waits For No One" or the one I've been rooting for (even made a sign during rehearsals!).."Dance Little Sister."

I did my part as a stone fan: I just caught Darryl on the way out of rehearsals tonight and i said " how about emotional rescue??" He said.." I don't know man youll have to see!" I told him to put in a good word for the song.

so we shall see...

In 1980, when Iwas just a wee sprog, I was all about the Stones.  I couldn't fathom what my band was doing subjecting me to a fairly naked and campy Prince imitation when I wanted another Shattered.  Then came the ice cream cones, and I was like WTF is going on here?  At least that had a Stoney riff.

I'm like Don King (who isn't?); I tend to be impartial. But if pressed against the Wall, I'd give Emotional Rescue four thumbs up.

This was the 1st Stones record i bought on day of release too! Man, was i disapointed. ER as 1st single was a mistake. She's so cold should have been. And as for that song, the "solo" is so wimpy! Just never dug this album. Compared to what preceded it & what followed, it pales in comparison.

I like the album, but not the single.

I never cared for it at all, the 80's were starting, & I was thinking why are the Stones into this Bee Gees Disco gay stuff & their a hard Rocking Blues Band, & those videos, never cared for it.

I've always dug it. Chicks dig it. It's slinky. The single and the album have a definite vibe happening that is as distinct as EXILE. It's a very up album. What's great about ER is the contrast it gives to the discog, especially the latter part of it. The sound is outstanding. Great mix. Makes SOME GIRLS sound terrible.

The true follow up was UNDERCOVER (their last truly good LP). A bit more aggressive sound but similar to ER. So it's a bit of a sonic revelation as to what was going on that started with SOME GIRLS, ER in the middle and ended with UNDERCOVER. I don't include TATTOO YOU in that simply because of its origins.

At least that's how it sits for me.

Love the song. Really dig the album as well, but it had to grow on me. Weird thing is, a quick look at my  iTunes library tells me I spin it more often than all the other Stones albums, The Big Four and Some Girls aside. IMO it's their most underrated work..it's one of the few times they were guided by a good sense of humor.

Keith's tune is stellar, one of his finest.

Listening to the Static In The Attic boot I do enjoy the unedited versions of ER and Indian Girl. Too bad they didn't put Think I'm Going Mad on it.

As I recall from my youth, young girls loved the single - and that was important to album sales and to romance.
