Title: Opening Acts, Special Guests?
Post by Bitch on Apr 19th, 2013 at 9:27am
I read Clapton will be a special guest throughout the tour! Also heard some band names thrown around for Opening Acts in Philly. Nothing officially confirmed yet. Clapton would be very cool!

Sources? A quick look at Eric's website has him on tour, so that's got to be another internet rumor.

Highly unlikely considering hes a) capable of filling arenas in his own right and b) is on tour in Europe at the same time behind a new album.

he's playing here in about two weeks time.

Surprised they havent announced any opening acts already. Please dont tell me this means theyre going to repeat what they did in 2012 and charge people silly money for tickets without even giving them an opener.

The only act I ever heard mentioned (or approached) as an opener for 2013 shows was Mick Jones' Justice Tonight, but that was about six months ago and I dont know if anything came out of it.

I know. That's what I was thinking. It's not like they're going to do a three hour show. At least give me a decent opening act,for what I'm paying.

Van Morrison's band before he formed Them. So, he got to open for the Stones again over decades later. Can't be too many acts who have done that!

Now I could get with that... It's always good to see St. Mick (Jones, that is) in action.

WOW!! Great list and all the opening acts I have seen with the Stones are OK

Patti Smith opened in 1978, she was really happy, the best pictures of Patti IMHO are backstage that day, she was in heaven as she's a real fan of the Stones, Brian and Keith

Rush

OK, my brain doesn't work nearly as well as it used to... can somebody remind me when Rush opened for the Stones?

SARStock, Toronto, July 2003, I think.

That would make sense...Toronto's hometown boys...

Gazza...I think either you are mistaken...or the quoted source was mistaken...Justice Tonight opened up for the STONE ROSES last summer...

it's an error I make often as I LOVE the Stone Roses and the word STONE jumps out at me everytime...

The only act I ever heard mentioned (or approached) as an opener for 2013 shows was Mick Jones' Justice Tonight, but that was about six months ago and I dont know if anything came out of it.

Now I could get with that... It's always good to see St. Mick (Jones, that is) in action.

No. Came from one of the same sources who filled me in on a lot of exclusives in the last year or so which proved to be spot on  - ie, the various rehearsal sessions, the fact they would do an arena tour of the US in the first half of 2013 etc. Feelers were being sent out for potential support bands for 2013 BEFORE the November/December 2012 concerts. Could just be that plans for this particular act didnt work out (or maybe the Stones have just decided that, like the 2012 shows, they can get away with having no opening act again) but the guy's never fed me snippets before that turned out to be incorrect.

I spotted her leaving a trailer on the street and walk into the parking lot but never saw her go into the studio.

Ah yes, this would make sense! I'm always a big fan of laundered goods on stage... maybe the Tounge Pit could include a couple of nice LG washers and dryers?

To be brutally honest, I'd prefer to see Dinosaur Jr open instead of Shakira... She can stand next to me in the Tounge Pit, though! :charlieperv

So was McCartney on day one. The Stones arent the only act who are using the facility, so someone going into or leaving the place doesnt necessarily mean they have any connection to the Stones.

She's just had a baby three months ago (the child was with her when she was there) so whether or not she's working again yet I'm not so sure. They do live in Barcelona so it'd maybe be a bit surprising if she's flown to LA with a child in tow for a brief cameo with the Stones.

Hotness isn't the word.

I saw Shakira, i think, on a TV talent show…. She's on the X Factor… I'm sure she's working on that, nothing else...

So, three days to go and still no opening acts? Dear me. Couldnt they afford any?

At least at the 2012 shows they managed to make up for that by playing for almost 2 and a half hours.

Cant see that happening this time.

No opening act is fine if you're playing a very long show. They werent missed or needed at the 02 (I rarely see the opener anyway, so its not a big deal to me personally)

However, if theyre not playing a much longer show, then its a pretty stingy gesture to most of the audience who have paid a lot of dough for an evening out.

The tickets say starting time at 8:00. They may not come on before 8:45-9 and they're telling people with pit packages to be there by 5 or you're SOL. :o

Gwen Stefani murdered Wild Horses in LA. Keith Urban did a respectable Respectable in LA. Tom Waits did a cool Rooster in Oakland.  So it seems 1 or 2 different Special Guests per show is the pattern. We can expect a variety.

I feel dumb asking this...
So...I just want to make sure...I thought that Gwen did a horrible job on Wild Horses...is that the consensus?

Folks ( not just you Bitch)  keep saying things like  murdered, destroyed etc...these euphemisms with respect to
performances/show business usually mean they did GREAT...as in "I killed last night...the crowd loved me!!

Depends on the age and IQ of the person youre quoting. If both are under 30, it usually means the opposite of what they're actually saying.

Its BADDD, ain't it?  :D

Most bands only get a token fee unless they are needed to sell tickets. Maybe they can do it Sunset Strip style and make the prospective opener buy a stack of $600 tickets to resell to their friends and fans in exchange for the slot.
