Chicago is a tough town to party in. Be ready to swab the decks. It's a man's game there. Look what happened to Telecaster. He came in proud, hadn't been vetted, but he was vouched for by a few board heavyweights for his pol-posting. He ended up looking like prison tuna. Total, complete humiliationism. Now embalmed in Stones internet lore for the duration. Choke and fade. Suck and duck. You know what they call him at the store he buys light beer at? "Cupcake." Yup. Can you imagine that? "Cupcake" they call him down there. He has to live with that now. Fuck, man. Getchmis olsun.
I'm not try to warn you off, I'm just saying you got to be careful, you know? |

I'm sure we'll be alright Dave! I seem to remember we nearly got arrested in Leicester Square for drunk and disorderly, talked our way out of that!
Can't wait now! Just need tickets! 3 nights at those prices? It's not gonna be hard, we just need the right drop and if we'd left the trip any later to book it would be far more expensive. Bring on the RO summit! |

He was up and down the board, chasing people all over, editing his posts per the minute - there can be no doubt he wanted to be considered a patriot, like all of his kind. And now look at him. Lying in bowl of clam chowder, rub a dub dub, fishface in a tub, rolling around, sucking the gravy stains out of his own socks, mumbling about Romeo and better days gone by. Chicago did a Sasquatch number on him. Is he now happy in his squalor? Come to terms with it? No. Poor guy has never recovered. Never recovered from those events of which we speak. |

Look man, as much as I love Telecaster, listening to him go on about his inner child would have me heaving portside. Save your energies, StraySmack. There is nothing to be done. In Telecaster's mind, the humilationism was comprehensive and notorious, a moment so pathetic he knows will never regain all that was important to him. There is a lesson in here, somewhere, for all of us. Ut sementem feceris ita metes. |

Tele was a first class LEACH and took advantage of good people. Drank for days for free, ate for free. Hell he even borrowed money off a few. All with one motive, to con and scam. I must of told him 20 times at mortons, time to pony up. Acted drunk. But the look on his face was priceless when he was thinking how am I gonna get away. Well, we ran from him. Hopped in cabs quicker than Paris Hilton can take off her underware. He deserves to be humilitated. :aimama :paristhong

For those who are actually going to Chicago and not just flooding this thread ;), we are still working on a location for pre/post concert drinks and food.
I'm also trying to reconnect with Peter our van driver from 2006. He chauffered about 12 of us from our hotel to the pre-party, to the show and from the show to Kingston Mines for some post concert Chicago Blues. Might be good to line him up rather than drive or have to rely on cabs. Great guy who really enjoyed hanging with us!!! We'll keep you updated............................ |

I've established contact with our driver Peter from '06. He wrote "The Rocks Off crew is returning to Chicago I hear. Would be my pleasure to see you all again". Since we seem to have the largest crowd on Friday night, I've requested some info (availability/pricing) for transport in a large passenger van. We could cab it to the pre-party or come up with a central location Downtown where he could pick us up, take us to the pre-party, on to the show, and off to a Blues club and/or back to your cars. Pete is a real cool guy and very flexible; so we have lots of options. Please post your thoughts here. If anyone wants to talk to me privately, please PM me |

Downtown Chicago hotels are full that whole week, just FYI for anyone looking. Almost impossible to get one. I tried that whole "my cousin works for the county health inspector" bit to no avail.
How do we know this Peter guy isn't a Narc? If there is one thing I can't stand its a Narc who drops the dime to LE on his associates. Goddam Narcs. I swear, I can't stand them goddam Narcs. **********************LEGITIMATE CHICAGO SUMMIT DETAILS***************************************
Just made contact with Kelly, the Event Coordinator at The Ogden. http://theogdenchicago.com/index.php This will be our spot for pre/post show activities on Tues, 05/28 and Fri, 05/31. The club opens at 4 pm the day of United Center events and is 3 blocks from the venue. We will be in an elevated area overlooking the Bar. It is reserved for us at 4:30 on both days. Full bar and menu service will be available. Those of you driving your own cars, can valet park at the Bar for 10.00. It is perfectly safe to leave your vehicle there for the event. Cabs after United Center events can be a hassle, but if we return to the Bar for some post show drinks, and allow the crowds to disperse, cabs are plentiful. Kelly is also sending me info on Blues Clubs in the area. She mentioned Mama Rosa's which replaced The Checkerboard Lounge and features many of the Bands that played there. I am still looking at transportation for Friday night. Reservations are in my name, Paula, with Pam (parmeda) as a co-contact. Any questions, please fire me a PM or email me at [email protected]. The driver is Pete, Brother of Shidoobee and RO poster akissaway and was our driver in 2006. Great guy. We'll just have to decide where we want to meet. Here is his email to me: "Van is rented for Friday, I'll get it that morning, all rows will be in for the rental. The van is a Chevy Express 15 passenger van. Actually leaves 14 seats since it includes the driver in that number. With gas, the rental cost is 260. I do have the day off from my job so the schedule is built to suit someone arriving at O 'Hare that day, pre-show, sightseeing, shopping, post-show, blues clubs I heard might happen, we can make it happen. The rental has to be back Saturday. I went by the United Center last week, the Arrow on Ogden bar is probably the closest bar/restaurant to the venue." I think this will make things alot easier for us and is definitely more cost effective than cabbing it everywhere. Let me know your thoughts. |

LJ, I am a CRY-ER. Drop of a freakin' hat. If we lived nearer each other, we could go to movies together and you would see. Even when I know the movie is retarded and the scene and music manipulative I still cry while I am saying "OMG how retarded." I'm serious, of all the shows we've all been to together, Chicago was by far the best. Remember how the ushers let me dance in the aisle as long as I promised to move when people passed? And remember how I threw my bag in the bushes and it was there when we got out? Today while we were driving away from Villefranche, we played Gimme Shelter and I started bawling. |

I must admit I did forget about your dancing in the aisle!! But I do remember the bag in the bushes!!!! We've had so much fun at our summits. Chicago 2005 was pretty special. From Pam's BBQ to the Boardroom to Kingston Mines to stuffing 8 of us in a cab from the Stones show to the House of Blues!! I miss you E. Enjoy Europe. |

Hi I am a huge stones fan and follow the rocks off website, but say very little.
I have been trying to log on for the past 6 months but didn't realize until last week that my 64 bit web browser could not open the rocks off message board. Finally I figured this out, just in time to read about the meeting in Chicago. Anyway I will be in Chicago for the May 31 show and was wondering if it was okay to stop by the the ogden and meet and have a drink with you folks, so I can put a face to some of these people. |

Title: Re: Chicago RO Summit! Post by Justin on Jun 1st, 2013 at 1:38am
....and so am I!
My final show of this tour was tonight...and it ended exactly the way it started on Opening Night: in the nosebleeds. The $85 got me far and away in section 308 and my upgrade method that I've been using on all my shows did me nothing tonight. I spoke to 7 ushers, and all said no to an upgrade. Huge fat No's from everyone. Apparently, this show was sold out and there were no seats to upgrade to. And specifically, they were apparently given SPECIFIC orders not to upgrade any person from the $85 group. So that was that. "Miss You" was surprisingly VERY well received. Mick went a little extra on the "woo woo" sing a long in the middle...giving us about 4 or 5 run throughs of that part. Mick really seemed to be in a VERY good mood. Even giving us a little bit more of Sinatra's "My Kind of Town" after a song. The crowd ate it up. It really felt like a rowdy audience tonight; we were totally with them. There was an almost rumble brewing by the time Taylor was wrapping up his solo on CYHMK. By the time we got to the very end, the audience seemed as if they were going to burst. When the final note was played...an eruption. The audience knew EXACTLY how special this was and it was like we all let out a big sigh of relief that we finally got this. We were hoping this would happen...and thank goodness: it did. High fives and hugs were given everywhere next to me as people in the crowd were in awe of what they witnessed. "I never thought I'd EVER see that in my life!!" I heard one person say. "Midnight Rambler" was very loose and the band deviated slightly in the middle with some interesting changes. Mick took his time (longer than usual) doing the "mmm hmmms" and the "OW!" back and forth with the crowd. He seemed like he was genuinely enjoying himself. In fact, tonight was no different than any night where Mick really seems to be finding new moments to enjoy in each of the songs. He's either adding a specific vocal part or focusing more on certain lines, but his concentration on singing on this tour has had such a HUGE, wonderful impact on the show. During the band intros, Mick mentioned that it was almost Charlie's birthday and the next thing we know...Chuck plays a few chords on the keyboard and we're all singing "Happy Birthday" to Charlie. Like the whole song. Keith comes out and joins in on the sing a long. About 10K singing to Charlie...it was such a great moment. Here is my video of "CYHMK" shot from the screen: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xKJn9RtBuMQ |

'tws a great show, plenty of energy, guitar players were sober, band seemed happy. My voice is gone. I beseeched god often. Pissed and drank during the Gloom and Moof interlude.
What band they are. Remarkable fitness. Jagger just going all out to put on a world class show. I saw some guy who looked like Telecaster, and went up to him like I was going to shake his hand, then elbowed him right in the thorax. Right in the goddam thorax. He dropped like a can of tuna fish. Wish I had met some of yinz, but I busted into town late and had to hustle to find a party. I'm getting liquored up today, if anyone is in downtown Chicago and wants to bash, send me an email here and please include contact info and your ethnicity. |

Justin, thanks for sharing this video with us!
MT. What else needs to be said? The man's a boss and he knows it. One other thing... many have rightfully talked smack about the quality of the video productions that the Stones have "officially" released on this tour... but whoever put that video together (in real time) did a great job. Nice camera angles and panning on cue. |

I know! I didn't know I could do it until last minute. I went to that goddam bar on Ogden, which is where I decked Telecaster, or someone who I thought looked like him, but saw no one from RO. I love my RO friends. And I fucking love the Rolling Stones.
Great show! They should ditch the Taylor moof-fest on the backsnot of CYHMK. And Sheryl Crow can go. But that is nitmoofing. Our band is fucking good, and playing like they care, and I love them. |

What if two best mates came all the way from England to see the Stones in Chicago.
And what if they paid a king's ransom to StubHub so they could be in the pit on Friday night? (For which Gazza called them "daft bastards".) And what if they had a rock chick friend in the perfect spot to capture their amazing night on film? (Only because my spotter LJ found them in the crowd.) Here are Strange Stray Cat UK and Flairville rocking out. Voodoo, this might be header material. They are 30,000 feet over the Atlantic Ocean right now, but they would love to see themselves on the header..... |

Kudos to Lady Jane.
Thank you for arranging the Rocks off meeting, it was great to meet some die hard Stones fans like myself. What a show. Can you say "Get your Ya Ya's out"? They sounded that good. I took a very good friend who had never seen the Stones and he has a college degree in music. He said he was so blown away that by the 5th song he had his moneys worth. Hi to Sweet Virginia and Parmeda and the other folks who were there. Sweet Virginia how do I get a copy of that Mick pic that you posted here, I would love to make a copy. 8-) Please see my post under: Ladies and Gentleman the Rolling Stones. |

Beautiful pics SV! RO has defintely reaped the rewards of your passion and talent as a photographer.
Went to bed at 9:30 last night after arriving home exhausted. Chicago never disappoints. It's a GREAT city; a Stones town. They always deliver in Chicago and Friday night was no exception. I'm not one to dissect a concert song for song. All I can say overall is that NOTHING could prepare me for the Band on this Tour. NOTHING. I saw the PPV show. I've read all the reviews. But until I sat in the Arena and saw it for myself, I couldn't comprehend just how GOOD this Band is. Keith has definitely kicked it up a few notches. His playing since I last saw them in 2006 is markedly improved. Ronnie as well. Charlie always delivers and what can one say about Mick Jagger??? The showman/shaman was on fire in Chicago. No one does it better than Mick. And Friday night he actually seemed to be enjoying himself, actually happy to be with the boys. One highlight for me was when Mick mentioned Ronnie's Birthday. Next thing we know all four are huddled together doing some type of dance as the crowd sang "Happy Birthday" to Mssrs. Wood and Watts. The setlist was perfect for me. No complaints; well I did sit through Miss U and One More Shot but overall it was A+. Gimme Shelter is LISA'S SONG. It was one of the best versions of my favorite Stones song. SAL was a special moment that I'll address later. I was disappointed to hear Sheryl Crowe was the guest, but she did well with ADTL. Loved hearing ER for the first time ever!! When we heard the opening chords of CYHMK, SV and I jumped in the air, screamed and hugged each other like lunatics. Seeing Mick Taylor on stage with the Band is sublime. His return for Rambler was equally awe inspiring. When Mick T takes the stage, I noticed Ronnie and Keith are smiling alot yet very focused. The comraderie is so nice to see. And at one point during MR, Watts was doubled over in laughter!!! WTF??? So happy Keith did YGTS. He sings that one from his heart and belts out the lyrics. The choir is a beautiful addition to YCAGWYW. I've done enough setlist threads on RO to know what song was coming and when. And while it's easy for us to sit at our PC's and bemoan the warhorses, they are simply amazing when you get to see them live. I'm telling you boys and girls, it's worth the price of admission to see these guys. They are that good. Onto Shine a Light. After Mary's death, her Mother searched for her custom made Keith bracelet (Betty refers to it as "those ugly handcuffs"). It was Mary's prized possesion and her Mom wanted to bury her wearing it. Well, Betty didn't find it in time. I told her it had to be there somewhere and sure enough Betty found it. A package arrived for me on my birthday and inside was the bracelet. Betty actually called me as I was opening the box! She said Mary would want me to have it. After expressing my gratitude, I told Betty I'd take it with me to the show. When SAL was announced as the winner of the fan choice vote, SV and I just looked at each other and the tears immediately started to flow. We knew. We knew Mary was with us. I reached in my purse and pulled out the bracelet and held it in the air for the duration of the song with tears pouring down my face. I kept looking to the heavens and at one point I felt Mary. I knew that she was okay; in a better place and at peace. Speaking of tears, YES I CRIED. I cried when I went through the turnstile. I cried when the band took the stage. I cried during SAL. I consoled SV as SHE cried during YCAGWYW and I cried watching the video during JJF. A montage of clips of fans throughout the years. I saw myself in those faces. I realized that here I was, 38 years after my first show in 1975, at another Stones show without a care in the world. No worries. No stress. Just me, my Band and some very special friends. There is no price tag for that feeling. It's a blessing. Sweet Virginia is a great partner in crime. Parmeda is a dear friend who I only get to see once every few years. I miss both of you already. Always great to see all RO'ers; but Martha and Maxmeister are extra special. Our time together was short but I know I'll see Martha again and Maxmeister and SV will be at the DC show to continue the fun. Great to meet monkeyman2, straycatuk and flairville. It used to feel strange but now I love to hear someone walk into a bar and ask "Is Lady Jane here?" Yep. Here I am. I had voicemails from Voodoo and Moonie that I didn't even know about until I got to the airport yesterday. Sorry to have missed your calls, but once I got to the bar, I was not concentrating on my "granny phone". So glad I've got a ticket for DC. Not ready for this to end yet!!! One love!!! |

Ladies and Gentleman – The Greatest Rock n Roll Band in the World.
First of all let me state my bias, I believe all authors should state their bias up front. So I am a huge Stones fan, they are my “band”. Stones and not the Beatles. That said: I hate the high ticket prices and leading up to Friday nights show I was lamenting how much I had to pay to get a good seat – they sure better be good. “they must only be in it for the money…” "same old songs" Well the show was amazing, there is and never will be a band anywhere close to this good. I am a huge Keef fan, but realize that Mick is the guy that puts this band way way over the top. Imagine this band playing these same songs with a lead singer just standing up there singing. Hello? Mick sells the whole show with the greatest of musicians behind him. I mean Charlie boom boom Watts on drums and Ronnie playing great. But kudos to Mick. I remember watching American Idol with my ex wife (she pleaded with me to watch it, so I did) and the judges telling the singers not to move around too much because then they couldn’t sing as well when out of breath. These are f… 20 yr old kids told to take it easy for 1 or 2 songs!!! Old bums rush Jagger here f… runs for over 2 hours and sings amazing. So some very astute business people just convinced the Stones and rightly so that they are that much better than everyone else and why are they undercharging for their services. Now they may have overestimated the market by a little bit, but the United Center was sold out on Friday night. We Stones fans have been fortunate all these years that we have been underpaying for the Greatest Rock n Roll Band in the World and now they are getting the money that all free market entertainers and sports people earn and deserve. It seems that by paying so much for a ticket makes sure that the Stones play to their potential. If this is the price for this level of performance then it’s well worth it. Chicago was a 2 and ½ hour show!! By guys turning 70 this year. I can hardly wait to dig into the retirement account again to see them one more time .. cause I sure hope it’s not “The Last Time”. |

Hi everyone !
Finally back from the States. Absolutely exhausted after 5 days of excess in Chicago ! Nice to finally meet some of the Rocks off legends on Tuesday ,although our stay was brief ! 1st night was a blast , especially Rocks Off, which seemed rather appropriate . I started to flag towards the end as 44 sleepless hours caught up with me and we were out of there quickly and in a cab, so never made it back to the Ogden . Would like to have taked to Tom and others a bit more and got some pictures . I understand the music issue reached a point of no return later ............where where the Stones ! The following night saw us out in Lincoln park , at Martyrs with SV, who had kindly sorted tickets for us. The Tim Ries Project were excellent, with some really cool arrangements of the classics, especially Lady Jane and Wild horses.........wow :) Thursday we decided to do a Blues club and ended up at Kingston Mines for the doors opening. What an incredible place ! We left at about 3.30 am with big smiles and lots of new friends. If you get a chance, check it out , especially Joannna Conner . Our last day was always gonna be stressful as we had decided to try for the pit and it proved to be complete nightmare ! All turned out well though and yes Gazza,we were daft bastards ! What can I say about the gig............Keith had his best night in years , with a performance up there with any I've seen in the last 31 years.I'm sure Mary would have approved and I think she may have been there, cranking his amp up to no. 11 ! So many great moments - Shine a light, ADTL with Sheryl Crow was amazing,YGTS and mind blowing versions of CYHMK and Rambler. Mick Taylor really plays with the band now. Made it to the after show, but only briefly as flairville (Ben) was worse for wear .....again ::). Nice to finally meet Lady Jane and others. Special thanks to SV for looking after us and for the pictures ! Chicago is our kind of town. This community is very special :) Straycatuk - Dave |

Especially coming just a few hours after I'd seen Bruce play 'Thunder Road' (a song he doesnt play as much as he used to) and the entire 'Born to Run' album in Italy a few hours earlier - the country where Mary's dad was born. It was very emotional, to say the least. Cue the 'Twilight Zone' theme. |

Title: Re: Chicago RO Summit! Post by Maxmeister on Jun 4th, 2013 at 9:21pm
If I could condense my thoughts and feelings for the friday chicago gig and RO summit into one word, it would be WOW! Or maybe be 2 words, FUCKING WOW!
Everything said about this show is spot on so I won't repeat. As has been the case for me since 2001, the summit has become an integral part of the whole Stones experience. It was a awesome meeting up with LJ again, and meeting SV, Parmeda and hubby Rick, StraycatUk, Flairville and Monkyeman2, Dano and entourage for the first time. This was the first time my niece Jamie has been to a summit and she said it was all I made it out to be. This is the 8th time her and I have seen the Stones together since '89, four in Houston and 4 on the road. If this is our last time, we couldn't ask for any greater memories. On a very personal note, this was the first time I have traveled to see the Stones without my wife telling me you have to go and have a great time. She always encouraged me to just do it, knowing how much fun I was having on the messge boards, trading boots in the old[?] days etc. She liked the Stones a lot and her favorite song was YCALGWYW. When the choir started I lost it. It was a mixed feeling of sorrow and elation and more. At this point the only thing I can say is thank you. Thank you to the Stones, I have been with you since I heard your first covers on the radio, then Come On, Tell Me and on for fifty years. The enjoyment for me can't be put into words. Thank you to all I have met on line and/or in person for the last 12 years. The experience is something that I could never have imagined when I first searched The Stones back in 1999. Thank you Jamie for seeing the light back in the late 70s early 80s when you accepted the fact that you had no choice but to love the Stones. "That guy" with the Stones who could really dance on those early MTV videos turned out to be quite the obsession. When I could finally got you to see them live in '89, I think I was more excited than you for your first Stones gig. Thank you to my wife, my best friend Deb, for the 41 years and 16 days we had together. Along with a thousand other things she tolerated, my Stones fanaticism was something she said put a smile on her face because she saw how much enjoyment I had. The memories from this past weekend in Chicago are another large deposit in the memory bank. I can't wait for more in Philly and DC. Oooooh yeah! Rick |

Found this review of 05/31 show online. Couldn't have said it better. Spot on!!!
2-0 and 50 & COUNTING in Chicago this year! review of the May 31, 2013 concert in Chicago at the United Center by Dave Kohl Second show of three Another tremendous performance at the second of three Chicago shows! A few minutes longer than the first show and a much better set list. Words don't describe this one. It was a Stones experience - as in one that only the Stones could possibly deliver. Best Stones show I have seen in more than 10 years, and I saw 12 shows on the Bigger Bang tour. Even with one exception that got in the way. We could tell early on that it was going to be a special night. After both of the first two songs, Mick was enthusiastically talking to the crowd. It wasn't the usual "How you doing?" and then moving on. The pace moved up a notch for Gimme Shelter. As much as Lisa Fischer has been nailing it on this tour, this time she helped to make this the best version I have seen of GS in quite some time, spiced up by some ad-libbing with Mick on the later parts. Next, it was the supposed vote winner for the night. I would have been pleased at any of the choices for this show, but was even more pleased to get the song I had voted for, Shine A Light. This was my personal first time seeing this great song, and it meant seeing still another song from Exile On Main Street, so they couldn't go wrong. The excellent guitar spots during the song made it even more special. I wasn't sure if we would get Emotional Rescue again, but we did and it went well again. This is one of those songs that will vary from night to night. Mick was mixing in the falsetto with his "regular" voice this time, and the extra funk from Darryl Jones on guitar makes this one a winner. Then it was time to see what "different" song would come up on the set list. To my amazement, they started into All Down The Line. I was ecstatic. (Well, even more ecstatic - it's the Stones!) There I was in the building for still another song from Exile, and for probably my favorite from the best album in musical captivity. However, a couple of lines in, something went wrong. I heard a loud shrieking noise that completely distracted my joy. It was even worse than feedback. It turned out to be Sheryl Crow on stage. Ouch. I like some of Sheryl Crow's songs and have enjoyed what I heard from her as a live performer. But for whatever reason, she was screaming lines sounding more like Mick stole her purse than anything resembling a professional singer. It's not easy to ruin a great Stones song, no matter who it is, but she came pretty darn close. Maybe she never had to work with a song that good or something. But I suppose I should be mad at whoever decided to have her appear on that song. I had hoped she'd be on Honky Tonk Woman or something they always do instead of wasting a valuable opportunity. Out of the 66 Stones shows I have seen in person over the years, I no longer have to go All Down The Line to find such a mess. Thank goodness I have seen the Stones perform this one live a few times in past as it should be. How appropriate that Doom & Gloom was the next song after Crow flew off the stage. After One More Shot, the Stones must have known they needed to make up for ADTL. And they did. The opening riff to Can't You Hear Me Knocking can cure just about anything! And out came Mick Taylor for the first of the three songs he played on. Not as a backup either. The two Micks were dueling with the guitar and harmonica as if it were a competition. The Bobby Keys sax solo was, as always, perfect. Killer version! During the band introductions, after Chuck Lavelle was introduced Mick said something to him on the way back to the keyboards. And, sure enough, Mick introduced the birthday boys, Ronnie and then Charlie, and had Chuck play Happy Birthday so that the crowd could all sing to them! Keith was again spot on with You Got The Silver, helped by Ronnie's amazing guitar playing. Hopefully Silver stays on Keith's set list based on the way he and Ronnie keep nailing it solid thus far. Then, after Happy had us happy - on to what once again was the highlight of the evening. Midnight Rambler. Again, the two Micks leading the way. There appeared to be some high spirited ad-libbing on this one. Mick whipped the harmonica back out at one point and gave us an extra solo before Mick Taylor stepped up to the front and took this great song to an even higher level, if that's possible. This set last about 2 hours 25 minutes all together with a charged up audience and a great set list. Now it's trying to wait until Monday night for the only "third" show at the same venue on the tour. Hard to believe this night will be topped. But if anyone can do it....................... Just spent about 40 minutes reading through this thread and reminiscing about a great night/show one year ago tonight.
And now Europe gets her turn. Howe lucky are we to be fans of this Band????? |
