Title: Keith recording with Doug Pettibone yesterday
Post by Gazza on Mar 24th, 2013 at 3:58pm
Doug Pettibone - whom many of you know from being as being the terrific guitarist in Lucinda Williams' band (theyre doing a UK tour minus the rest of her band in the next few weeks) - is currently finishing his solo album (in LA, I presume), and yesterday was joined by a couple of very xpensive winos...

Yesterday's session was also filmed, apparently.

Larger version of the photo is on our facebook page (Doug had originally posted it on his own page)

Keith in LA getting ready for the next set of rehearsals?

I think so. I assume its in LA as Pettibone lives in Santa Monica and I think Lucinda is based in LA too. As is Waddy Wachtel of course.

isn't there an LA club where guys like Waddy play jams on a Monday or some set evening?

Yeah, The Joint, but Waddy doesn't play there on a set day each week or anything.  He plays when he can and there are no gigs planned for March.  The next one is April 20th which I would guess would be right at the heart of band rehearsals.  Bernard is scheduled to be at this gig as well.

I don't know. It's really small. No more than a couple hundred I think.

Got to talk to Waddy a few years back when him and Benard did our annual gig in Ellicottville NY every year. He signed my laminate Tom Fucking L.

I'm soooo pissed! I will have to miss that Waddy show (I attend over 90% of his shows) because of another committment.

Same here...I'll be out of town that night.  Would just be my luck that Keith drops in during that particular gig.

Someone on the fb page insisted the photo was taken before last Saturday and that its NOT for Doug's solo album, but another project.

Anyhoo - Doug has posted another colour photo today from what he describes as 'last Saturday's session'. (I'll upload it when I get home if no one else does beforehand). He lists the 'cast of characters' as

Larry Taylor - bass, Jim Keltner - drums, Keith Richards - guitar and vocals, Waddy Wachtel - guitar, Johnny Depp - guitar, Ian McLagan - keys and Pettibone himself on pedal steel.

That would suggest it was done for something else.

Great lineup and Keith on guitar and vocals. Wow, looking forward.

In my fantasty world Mick and Keith would both get the "incoming" vibes and write a new album. I'm so desperate for a new Stones album.

I wish.

I know Pettibone is making a solo record. he's been uploading pictures on his facebook page over the last few weeks of the sessions.

he doesnt answer questions that the fans post , though - he just adds more photos.

A week or so ago he started uploading pics from the sessions saying they were from 'overdub' sessions.  So you'd assume the record is almost done.  Then he mentioned on Friday about working with Keith the next day, so it was reasonable to think this was for the same thing - and then you see the above pic which is obviously a full band line up. And if its for his solo album, I would imagine he'd be doing more on a song than just playing pedal steel.

I'll be seeing him when he's in Belfast with Lucinda on 13th May (its just the two of them - no band) so if I get a chance to talk to him  afterwards (and I did before one time) I'll make a point of asking......of course the info might be public knowledge by then!

Pity McLagan wasn't here before then. He's so laid back, he'd tell you pretty much anything you wanted to know!

According to Keith, Alice Cooper, Billy Gibbons etc. he is really good.
But picture yourself your opinion.

Keith Richards acted in 'Pirates', and had less experience than Depp has as a musician, so I guess we can't grumble!

I understand that they were shooting more footage for the upcoming Keith Richards documentary project, which has been in the works for a couple of years now, on and off.
