Title: What Is the greatest Rock & roll Movie.
Post by Heart Of Stone on Jan 18th, 2013 at 3:13pm
To me "Gimme Shelter".

Weekend Rock Question: What Is the Greatest Rock Movie of All Time?
Cast your vote in our weekly poll

David Chase's Sixties rock & roll movie Not Fade Away went into wide release this month. It's the first movie from the creator of The Sopranos. We figured this was a good time to poll our readers to determine their favorite rock movie. This can be pretty much any movie with a rock theme, as long as it's scripted – no documentaries.

Feel free to vote for biopics (Walk the Line, Ray), movies focusing on fictional rock bands (Eddie and the Cruisers, Almost Famous) or any other movie about rock & roll (School of Rock, High Fidelity.) Once again, just avoid documentaries like The Last Waltz or Woodstock. That's a whole other poll. Mockumentaries, such as This Is Spinal Tap and Meet the Rutles, are fair game, however.

Vote for whatever movie you want, but please only vote once and only for a single movie. We'll know something's up if we see 800 votes for Eddie and the Cruisers II: Eddie Lives.

You can vote here in the comments, on facebook.com/Rollingstone or on Twitter using the #weekendrock hashtag.

Me as well...

I recently saw TELSTAR...possible the BEST RnR biopic i have ever seen...extremely facinating...and the people who it is about...extraordinary!!
If you don't know the story of Joe Meek...don't wiki it...the film seems pretty acurate and Wiki was a HUGE spoiler for me as i didn't know much about him or the tornadoes

I didn't see that one when it was on the cinemas, but one day I made a Humble Pie radio programme and someone called telling he was in the idea that Humble Pie was an imaginary band that appears in the movie "Almost Famous"! LOL

This is the kind of story that many of us must watch, it made remember the great Bill German and Bjornulf Vik, not just journalist but specialist

Do yourself a favour and watch it you B&B :willya

Woodstock is a great movie and documents real history of rock, Charlie is my darling too

Can't answer this question, a lot more and all you all have mentioned

Helter Skelter is not exactly about rock but the consequences of misinterpreting rock music... The White Album by The Beatles

Interesting, I'm going see this, I played Telstar on guitar since the 60's, but didn't know about this movie.

Hard to go past Gimme Shelter not only for the music but also for the fact it all happened for real.

No Direction Home. Especially the interview bits with modern day Bob.

Spinal Tap never gets old. On the topic of satires I recently saw and highly recommend Walk Hard the Dewey Cox story.Hilarious. Contains all the cliches in the rock and roll playbook and a great definition of cocaine:"It turns all your bad thoughts into good ones...It's a nightmare!!"

You hit the nail right on the head...Almost Famous is my favorite too...Gimme Shelter and all of those are rock documentaries...not rock movies!

I love this film. Maybe not the greatest, but in contention. The performances are riveting and the film of
them writing songs and drunk in the hotel makes this an incredible historical document. The scene of a
young priest amid a sea of young boys (one crying) while the Stones play a feral version of their new
song "Satisfaction" is priceless in itself.

There's a lot of good r'r movies since the 60s. as you mentioned Voo. I got all them, and think that Voodstock and Gimmie Shelter, plus that by Dylan cannot be overtaken by other.   but there's also films I'd never could see here.  You've mentioned them.  I look forwards to see them

I saw this movie, I never knew all this stuff or Joe Meek, it's a really good movie, although it was totally insane the way he had a recording studio in his house, Ritchie Blackmore (Deep Purple) was involved in the early days & Mitch Mitchell (who he, Joe, held a gun to his head & he had a nervous break-down) it's amazing how many of these people involved in the music business in England (managers/record producers, etc) were gay, & back then it was a crime.

Hard to say.  Probably Kids Are Alright or A Hard Day's Night (though my favorite Beatles movie is the animated one; the one about the submarine, and I think that Help! gets better with time).  Woodstock always gets me; it's like being there, but without having to stand all those smelly lazy hippies in person ( [smiley=2vrolijk_08.gif]).  I like Don't Look Back , but who doesn't? (BTW, D A Pennebacker is receiving a honorary Oscar this year.) Even though it isn't ROCK per se, Hair is one of my favorite movies of all time.

I strongly believe that, in spirit, Goodfellas is the best rock movie of all time. In spirit, because as far back as I can remember, I always wanted to be a gangster.  Besides, consider the soundtrack. Stones, George Harrison, Cream, etc. First time I ever heard the "Layla" coda. In recent years, I enjoyed tremendously 24 hour party people ; be sure to check it out, if you like Joy Division and british humor.

I'm interested in watching Tonite let's all make love in London (1967). I've heard some good things about it.  There's some Stones content there; also Michael Caine, Pink Floyd, Eric Burdon, etc.  Here it is.  I'll probably watch it later....
