No, it's not the 14th that night was Carlo Little the drummer, Charlie's first gig with the stones was on Jaunary 17, but Carlo also played on the night of January 21, it was until January 24 that the Rolling Stones had Charlie as a permanent drummer

Check it out here, thanks Gazza

Between the shows of the 17 and the 24 they had two more bass players (Colin Golding y Ricky Fenson) and a drummer (Carlo Little)

The 50th of the stable band with Brian, Stu, Mick, Keith, Bill and Charlie is January 24, 2013

Lots of confusion over this.

The info on the setlists page (from years ago) comes from James Karnbach's book.

Nico Zentgraf lists it as 12th January - which is, I think, correct. There's been a few revisions in recent years.

Either way, after his first appearance with the Stones, the band did play a few more gigs with other drummers before the line up became permanent.

From nzentgraf.de :

Gigs in January 1963

630103A  3rd January: London, Marquee International Jazz Club (without BW & CW)
                   Note: No bass-player.

630104A  4th January: Sutton, Red Lion Pub -(without BW & CW)-
Note: With Colin Golding on bass.

630105A  5th January: Richmond, Sandover Hall (without BW & CW)
Note: With Ricky Fenson on bass.

630107A  7th January: London, Flamingo Jazz Club (without BW & CW)
                   Note: No bass-player.

630108A  8th January: London, Ealing Jazz Club

630110A  10th January: London, Marquee International Jazz Club (without CW)-

630111A  11th January: Windsor, Ricky Tick Club, Star And Garter Pub (without CW)
Note: Last gig of Tony Chapman on drums

630112A  12th January: London, Ealing Jazz Club -
Note: First gig with BW and CW.

630114A  14th January: London, Flamingo Jazz Club- (without BW & CW)
Note: With Ricky Fenson on bass and Carlo Little on drums.

We all  yield to your wisdom all the time...why should today differ??

LOL Gazza, I'm giving you as the reliable source and you are giving others as more reliable... Let me know probably it is time to change the setlist page for 1963

BTW, The RS official website has never been 100% reliable, but the one now is probably the worst in terms of reliability

Yes, even that Mick Avory has denied always that he played with the Stones, now it is a fact, he played LOL

In Bill's Stone Alone, printed in 1990, he claims that the first gig played by Mick, Keef, Brian, Charlie, Stu and Bill was January 14th at the Flamingo. That's on page 115 of the hardcover.

On page 554, he notes the first year of gigs, and he makes a point to mention "Without Charlie" and "Without Bill and Charlie" after each gig until January 11th at the Ricky Tick Club. One glaring mistake is his listing for October 5, 1962. He puts nothing after it, and to the casual reader, that would be the first gig they all played together.

I put the page numbers for the first printing hardcover edition.

James Phelge posted this today on IORR & Shidoobee :

This very day 50 years ago.

In case anyone has missed it - 2013 is running in sync with 1963. Today is January 26 - January 26 1963 was also a Saturday.

This very day in 1963 the Stones - the full 6 Stones we all know would have been playing at the Ealing club - and yes, there was also snow on the ground.

It was also Today that Charlie came to to the flat and announced he would play full time with the band. So, as Keith has also said - the Stones 50 could be construed as starting today. If you go with that - they are now officially 50 years old today.

This was the night that after the gig Keith fell ill and had his 'fit' in order to blag an after hours drink. ))

Apart from Charlie who usually went back to Wembley on the train - the rest of went back to a cold Edith Grove in the van.

Well there's a difference, dont forget, between his 'first gig with the Stones' and 'joining the band'.

26th January appears to be the date when, after a few gigs sitting in with them, he decided to actually become a band member.

You can't re-write a hysterectomy. But history - in the mind or on paper - is re-writeable, shirley.

Goo' to see you back 'on the board', Bitcholino - one feared you might have been flushed away by Randy Sandy.

Aww thanks ~ I took a short break. Sometimes you have to do that. I lost some "stuff" from the storm and I had to make some repairs, didnt qualify to get any FEMA money so I'm broker than usual. Otherwise I'm fine. I've got my health which is better than wealth in light of our fellow board members recent developments. Thanks for caring!
