Most people on Twitter bashed the shit out of the band.

Title: Re: One Negative Review about The Stones @ 121212 Post by Saint Sway on Dec 13th, 2012 at 8:44am She misses Brian Jones?? When did she see the Stones with Brian Jones? And if she did she'd know the Stones are much better since then. Certainly much better live now. Hey, I like Springsteen but Bruce's band is a joke. His band is over the top with extra musicians. Its ridiculous. There was even a violinist on "Wrecking Ball" its too much Guy has 4 guitar players - including his wife. 5 horn players. 2 keyboardists. 4 background singers. A percussionist. Somebody on wind chimes. A mandolist. A fiddler. Bon Jovi. A monkey playing an according... oh, no wait.. that was Little Steven. |

At least she calls it like she sees it and isn't pulling any punches. Read the rest of her comments about the show. Some are pretty funny. She bolted when the rap guy came out.

I've read thumbs up and thumbs down reviews of The Stones on The Boards and Facebook.
It's all a matter of opinion. I thought they were great. For a last minute addition to the line up, I didn't expect them to do more than 2 or 3 songs, especially with a show tonight! YGMR was a lame choice, imo, but they more than made up for it with JJF which I thought was blistering. At least we didn't have to sit through Miss You!!! I watched it from start to Kanye and enjoyed the majority of it (Bon Jovi SUCKS) was good. The Highlight of the Show for me was The Who. |

Most people hated YGMR. I am in the minority. I love all their songs and albums. Most seem to dismiss everything after Tattoo You.

While yes they were a last minute addition, you couldn't have asked for better preparation for this kind of a show: they just did a show in Brooklyn and will be doing 2 in the next 3 days in NJ. They were SO ready for this. They played well. They just weren't given more time which is a shame. And they had to drag out frigging You Got Me Rocking. Now I feel like the voting for the PPV is TOTALLY rigged and that's what we'll end up getting (I voted for Around and Around). |

Voodoo Lounge is heavily underrated and better than everything post Exile. |

I don't give a shit what wins. It's 2012 and we have two more Stones concerts this year.

They really don't. The only post Tattoo You album that's substandard is Dirty Work. Steel Wheels maybe although it does contain some truly great songs. Problem is that YGMR is a throwaway by Stones standards, yet the band have for some reason elevated it to near warhorse standard. Not that that makes it a horrible song. There are far better songs on that album alone (and IMO every song on Bridges to Babylon is superior than it - a criminally overlooked gem of an album). It was actually a refreshing change in some way that they played something other than the predictable choices and it was good that they played something that was less than 30 years old. They just could have picked a better one. |

Concur completely with Gazza. It's a fun, tough song. And it's a throwaway. They can write and play that stuff in their sleep. By the numbers.
But they have so many great - not just very good - songs in their catologue, they ought find a better 'war-horse'. Oh, I dunno - "Dance Little Sister"..."Too Tight"..."Have You Seen Your Mother...", or "I Go Wild", also from 'Voodoo Lounge'. There isn't one Stones song - never mind albun - that I can honestly say I never want to hear again, and that includes 'Dirty Work', clearly their weekest album. And how many of your fave acts can you truly say that about? On a side note, I listened to 'Satanic Majesties' today; it has some absolute faves on it (Rainbow, Citadel, 2000 Light Years, 2000 Man), but even the crazyier stuff has a lot of charm and atmosphere for me. |

Perhaps Mick views YGMR as the "anthem" the Stones never had until the mid-nineties or so.
It's got that catchy, sing-along chorus that might make some want to get up and put their fist in the air kinda thing, and sometimes I think Mick likes being a cheerleader as much as being an entertainer in general. |

Yeah, I can see that, Edith. It does have great drive ala "Brown Sugar", what with Charlie riding his floor-tom durring the verses and all. But whatever happened to "Mixed Emotions"? Too romantic and pretty on the chorus? And "Rough Justice" disappeared as well, and that's pretty rough and raunchy. Shame. |

I remember Mick saying that they found 'Mixed Emotions' a bit tricky to sing and play live.

They are opening their shows with those oldies, why not play one of them instead of YGMR? I like the name of the recording from last nights show, $40 Songs!

Thanks Gazza. Been lurking on all the boards but have been too busy to post for the most part. Have enjoyed your reports on both boards!!!
Maybe the Stones will get the rest of the world involved in 2013. I must say The Who killed it this year and had more respect for their fans than to only play two cities at ridiculous prices. Hope they come your way next year. |

The 121212 Stones' performance had a little Rock 'n' Roll Circus deja vu for me. They shared the bill with The Who - just off touring - and really made people talk/compare the performances. To be fair, though, it's pretty hard to really light it up with only a 2-song set.
Maybe the Stones just get their blood pumping... |
