Not just a very sad day in Stones history but a defining moment in the band's development. Their entire ethos was quite different when they resumed working regularly again at the end of the decade. |

Anyone have a copy of the painting Fabio did of Stew? I lost it a few computers ago, it was great.

Stu incarnated. I saw him with Mr Watts at the Iridium last Summer. Fantastic. Most certainly better than clinky clank Leavell. Sadly, Mick and Keith not up to being musical director though, hence no changes at this stage of the game. |

Title: Re: Ian Stewart Post by Mr. Yeats on Dec 12th, 2012 at 3:45pm
I wish Ian MacLagen had stayed with the band. He's the closest of anyone to Stu's style and approach.
I wonder if he was asked and turned it down (has anybody read his autobiography, and if so, what did he say about his Stones tenure from '78-'81?). |

HE WAS ALMOST REPLACED BY LEAVELL FOR THE 81 TOUR. HE WASNT ASKED TO DO THE 82 TOUR AND CHUCK BEEN THE PIANIST SINCE. MAC HAD A BIT OF A FREEBASE PROBLEM AT THE TIME AND WAS CONSIDERED A BAD INFLUENCE ON WOODY,WHO WAS SERIOUSLY MESSED ON BASE AND WAS ALMOST SACKED. |

Can't imagine how Stu dealt with all these maniacs! |

His autobiography is one of the best music autobiographies ever written The Stones basically came across as penny pinchers who use people and shit all over them. No surprise there. He got the call to play on the Some Girls sessions for a few days and getting ANY payment out of them pretty much WAS like getting blood from a stone. Then again, he DID put up with it and toured with them afterwards! |
