Title: The Glimmers on Letterman Tuesday
Post by Edith Grove on Dec 7th, 2012 at 7:08pm
Mick Jagger and Keith Richards to Duet on 'Letterman' Top 10
Published: December 07, 2012 @ 1:23 pm

By Tim Kenneally

Mick Jagger and Keith Richards are no strangers to Top 10 lists, but now they're poised to expand their knowledge of them beyond the music charts.

Rolling Stones leaders Jagger and Richards will appear on "Late Show With David Letterman" on Tuesday to deliver the Top Ten list for the night, CBS said Friday.

Though this will mark the first time that Jagger and Richards have appeared on "Letterman," they've appeared on the stage of the Ed Sullivan Theater -- where "Late Show" is taped -- before. The Stones made numerous appearances on "The Ed Sullivan Show," starting with their maiden performance on Oct. 25, 1964.

The group is currently celebrating its 50th anniversary and recently released the greatest-hits anthology "GRRR!" They be in the area to play the Barclays Center in Brooklyn on Saturday, and at Newark's Prudential Center on Thursday.

The group will also perform at the Hurricane Sandy benefit concert 12.12.12 -- The Concert for Sandy Relief, which takes place Wednesday at Madison Square Garden. Other performers at the benefit will include Paul McCartney, the Who, Bruce Springsteen & the E Street Band, Billy Joel and Eric Clapton, among others.

Letterman has been rubbing shoulders with rock royalty lately -- earlier this week, he was joined on his show by the surviving members of Led Zeppelin.  Last weekend, Letterman and the group received Kennedy Center Honors.

Yes...that preview was embarrassing to say the least...
Jagger comes out solo...and continues on, it seems...no sign or mention of Keith
Maybe Keith is the punchline for the number 1???
He has a good sense of humor...so, who knows??

I understand Keith was not at the studio for the taping, which is why they removed Keith from the photo they were using to promote the appearance.

Nice post.

Mick simply came out for The Top Ten bit and that was it.

So as far as how it was... well...really lame. Don't get me wrong...Mick did fine... crowd was responsive enough... but jokes were not funny... not that most of them are intended to be funny on Letterman's top ten but this was tamed down jokes and in a sense out of respect for Jagger and the Stones. Not really any jokes about their age...none about ticket prices... none about Bowie :/

Anyway it was rather lame but not horrid. Mick spoke really well as usual though and he actually read the top ten himself.

Ian

Would've been better with Keith.
I'm guessing the control freak in Mick wouldn't let Keith be a part of it.

Let's give Keith equal time.  :wtf1

The preview looked horrifically lame. Do they pay the audience to laugh at this shit?

Keith has a long standing beef with Letterman going back decades. I was amazed to read that he was going to be part of this. Maybe his no-show was a conscious 'fuck you' to the host.

Supposedly, Keith had a cold and was unable to make it. I read that on Twitter. The same guy who wrote the article I posted Tweeted that info.

Do tell more...

In the mid-90's Letterman refered to Keith as looking like "an arthritic monkey" (well he sorta does).

Richards responded (to Rolling Stone magazine if I recall) that Dave keeps the Ed Sullivan Theatre really cold so he dosen't sweat. Said Keith: "I LIKE to sweat. Dave's just pissed off because chicks still throw their underwear at me".

And Keith's got a point: just last night, when the Russian ballerina came out, she complained about how cold it was, prompting Letterman to offer her his suit coat, which she wore for the rest of her interview!

The 'arthritic monkey' line came from Elton John, after Keith dismissed him in 1997 as just 'writing songs for dead blondes'.

Keith's antipathy towards Letterman goes back to the 80's and is 'chick related'.  :D

I'd never heard that 'sweat' quote before. Thats pretty funny.

The monkey comment first made it's appearance after Keith made fun of Elton for another song "about dumb blondes."

I think Elton said it to Entertainment Weekly magazine.

"Tops" didnt actually make it onto the final cut of the Emotional Rescue album. So he's not as familiar with it as he is with the other outstanding gems from 'Scue.
