Rolling Stones Get Charitable, Join Hurricane Sandy 12-12-12 All Star Show
Harvey Weinstein and Jim Dolan just announced that the Rolling Stones are indeed joining the A List all star Hurricane Sandy concert called 12-12-12. The show at Madison Square Garden on December 12th will also feature a bunch of celebrities including Jimmy Fallon, Billy Crystal, Adam Sandler, Jon Stewart, Brian Williams, Steve Buscemi, Chris Rock, Chelsea Clinton and Jake Gyllenhaal. The Stones, of course, kick off their three nights in New York of anniversary shows tomorrow night with original members Bill Wyman and Mick Taylor featured on the program. Mick Jagger and Keith Richards participated in the Concert for New York in September 2001 when Weinstein wrangled most of the same artists to raise money then for World Trade Center victims. The 12-12-12- show already features Bruce Springsteen and the E Street Band, Billy Joel, The Who, Paul McCartney,Roger Waters, plus Kanye West, Alicia Keys, and a slew of A list performers. PS The Stones will almost certainly be performing on the Grammys come February. They just hired Grammy producer Ken Ehrlich to produce their Pay Per View special on December 15th. Very good chess move! http://www.showbiz411.com/2012/12/07/rolling-stones-get-charitable-join-hurricane-sandy-12-12-12-all-star-show-we-were-right |

Yup. You'll get "Jumpin'Jack Flash" - and the words will really resonate:"...I was born in a crossfire hurricane...". And yeah, it'll trample the competition ('cept for Springsteen - he's pretty hard to trample). |

Cheapest ticket on StubHub is over $600. I wish I could go to this. I'm feeling really bad these days about not being able to go to all 3 Stones shows and now this event too. Thankfully I will go to just one Stones show but I am so disappointed with the really high prices of these tickets. I'm depressed, and it takes a lot to get me down. It really bothers me because I was displaced by the damn storm and if they really wanted to help us out they would offer a small portion of the tickets to the actual people who suffered a loss and cant afford to buy a damn ticket! I need a new floor, an electrician, and appliances. Turns out I didnt have the right insurance, or not enough of the insurance I actually needed. Fvck!!!

Well yeah, solid point. But I'd guess these events have hefty ticket prices so there has to be some immediate revenue.
As far as when/how the funds reach the target orginizations - who knows. Personally, as a CFL (Commie Fag Liberal), I like to see the Guard, active duty troopers, anybody on the Federal payroll, activated for these types of disasters. The shit isn't over. Neither is Katrina. Throw money and manpower at it. Always. That's how I like my tax money to be used. And I'm proud and glad to pay more for these services. (Sorry man, couldn't resist). |

My money's on the Stones opening with GS and Macca closing with Let it Be, they are after all the biggest names ever in Rock/Pop, bar none, well there's Elvis and Jacko somewhere but they checked out early. Like Keith said in 1986, "Bruce is a good guy but he's holding the fort you know"...he had to hold a bit longer than Keith expected, but looking back 26 years later Keith did have a point to some extent.

I'd imagine the timings and schedules were worked out well in advance - the Stones, after all, were only a last minute addition. I hope the Stones get as long as the other main acts do. Splitting hairs about who 'deserves' to be top billing sort of misses the point of the entire exercise. I'd like to think all of the performers are above that. |

Update: Paul McCartney to Lead Nirvana Reunion at 12-12-12
Krist Novoselic: They'll perform a new song December 12, 2012 12:55 PM ET Paul McCartney, Kurt Cobain Paul McCartney performs at Minute Maid Park in Houston, Texas. Gary Miller/FilmMagic Paul McCartney will close out tonight's 12-12-12 Sandy benefit concert by performing with "Dave Grohl and Friends" as well as Diana Krall, according to an official rundown of the show. Widespread reports suggest that Grohl's "friends" will include Krist Novoselic and former Nirvana touring guitarist Pat Smear, amounting to a reunion of sorts for the band without its late frontman Kurt Cobain. A spokesperson for McCartney would not confirm or deny the rumor, only saying, "Everything will be revealed tonight." 100 Greatest Singers of All Time: Paul McCartney The news of McCartney and Grohl's collaboration comes after Roger Waters revealed on Late Night With Jimmy Fallon that he'll perform "Comfortably Numb" with Eddie Vedder at the star-packed concert, which will also feature the Rolling Stones, Eric Clapton, Bruce Springsteen, Bon Jovi, the Who, Billy Joel, Kanye West and more. Update: Krist Novoselic has confirmed on his Twitter that the group will perform a new song, which he described as "kind of 'Helter Skelter' meets 'Scentless Apprentice'" that "rocks with a heavy groove." 12-12-12 will kick off at 7:30 p.m. EST and air on 37 television networks and 27 websites. If you do happen to find it, please DON'T post it here in advance or spoil it for everyone else by discussing it until after it takes place. Thanks. Can confirm that the time the Stones are due onstage is as above - just before 9.30 ET. |

A new song ? That's exciting, hopefully it will be a little less simplistic than "Freedom"... So we have Sky Arts 1 in Europe so far broadcasting the show? Let me try to hunt it down on my satellite dish...TV5 Monde was said to show it too but it's not on their schedule. You'd think that MTV Live HD would be a good outlet for something like that but I suppose they have their usual crap to ram down the throats of their usual viewers. |

The Mayans were out by nine days. Could have been worse, in fairness, although no one, but no one, should ever share a vocal on that song. Pretty enjoyable show so far. What is this - kareoke night with Kanye? How many songs he gonna do?
Hip hop seldom translates well live. And anyway he's a shitty rapper and can't sing either. Plus he can't dance or move. And looks really stupid tonight. Sorry. |

Thats what I thought too. However, it appears that the exclusive deal they had already signed with WWE for the PPV show forbade them from playing longer even if they and the promoters of this event had wanted them to. Reading between the lines, I suppose WWE could actually have refused them clearance to perform at another televised event, but a compromise was reached. |

Who knows the real reason why the Stones only did two numbers. I don't think any of us will ever know, unless someone has a connection to Stones, Inc. and their lawyers. it was a benefit concert and the Stones did their part. Did I want them to do 30 minutes? Sure, but I was happy with ten.

I was at the concert. There were some amazing moments, and I hope they raised a LOT of money because it is sorely needed.
I spend the day in Red Hook before going to the show, and it is sill reeling from the hurricane. When I delivered supplies to New Dorp, Staten Island about a month ago I could not believe the complete devastation for miles around us. My over-riding impression of the show was that it was way too long. The organizers needed to be more forceful in handling the rock gods. They let too many acts play too many songs. The highlights for me: For me, Roger Waters and Eddie Vedder stole the show. They were impeccable. I thought our boys were very good (I wish that every band had a two to four song limit). They were pretty much the only act that had a project get promoted live on the show. This should help the PPV sales. Appetites have been whetted. Bruce was great, of course, and The Who rocked the place. I had just seen them last week at MSG, and I loved the way they were weaving Moonie and Ox into the live performance. Not sure if the Moonie part could be truly appreciated by the TV audience last night. Note to Roger: keep your fucking shirt buttoned. Lows: Buschemi blathering....other celebs blathering...Kristen Stewart....Blake Lively...even Colbert and Jon Stweart both talked too long. Kanye running around in a dress to a recorded soundtrack. Bon Jovi...everything he did. Clapton and Chris Martin should have both joined some other act rather than take up time with individual performances. I have to admit, I left during Macca. It was already after 1:00 AM and I have two REAL Stones shows this week! WTF were they thinking....putting together a Nirvana reunion that wouldn't start till 1:15 in the morning? Obviously there were no clocks backstage. |

white bread review
the stones rocked. they put their two cents in. the who rocked, bell boy an odd choice and instead of tea and theater they should have done sea&sand and yes i did not need to see rogers shirt unbuttoned clapton in a trio was great maybe not the most evocative performer but a great guitarist roger waters-huge floyd fan but it didnt really move me. eddie who? missed springsteen missed BJ-crushed chris martin, why is this guy famous? about as overated a musician as his wife is an actress. micheal stipe please stay retired Big Mac-dude is olde. only saw part of set due to technical difficulties but blackbird was great despite his failing voice and i've got a feelin was terrific i did like nirvana backing him up otta the box. a good band but completely overated yep that alicia keys was solid she's in her prime and smokin |

Title: Re: Stones added to 121212 bill ! Post by Heart Of Stone on Dec 13th, 2012 at 11:14am There's a video on the site. There were plenty of old Brits – but not that many women – at Madison Square Garden to raise money for hurricane victims Emma Gilbey Keller Emma G Keller in New York guardian.co.uk, Thursday 13 December 2012 08.05 GMT Jump to comments (46) Sir Paul McCartney and the surviving members of Nirvana - Dave Grohl, Krist Novoselic and Pat Smear - debut their song Cut Me Some Slack Link to this video The 12-12-12 concert to raise money for victims of hurricane Sandy might have been seen and heard all over the world, but it was Brit night at Madison Square Garden on Wednesday. More specifically, it was old Brit night. With a lineup of the Rolling Stones, the Who, Eric Clapton, Paul McCartney, Roger Waters and Chris Martin, all of whom came in to help the cause, the event was a reminder of the good old days of the special relationship between Britain and the United States. The show opened with dramatic pictures of the hurricane's winds, rain and waves attacking and drastically altering the landscape around New York City and New Jersey. It's hard to remember it was only six weeks ago; the spectacle of it already seemed unreal. It made sense that the opening act was New Jersey's greatest star, Bruce Springsteen, who began with Land of Hope and Dreams as the camera panned forward over the mainly white, mainly middle-aged, affluent crowd on the stadium floor. Everyone was standing, but there was a general lack of focus as the concert began. Many audience members seemed to be chatting to each other rather than watching the stage. "You probably can't tell at home but they've definitely turned the speakers up to 11 tonight," tweeted Springsteen as he performed. He was right, we couldn't tell. There were audio bugs throughout Springsteen's half-hour set and when Bon Jovi came on stage to join him he was carrying a microphone that didn't work and he could hardly be heard on Born to Run. The Brits took over when Roger Waters strolled on stage for The Wall. Waters only performed Pink Floyd numbers, and the absence of his former partner Dave Gilmour was noted during guitar solos on Money and Comfortably Numb. But Pearl Jam's Eddie Vedder filled the gap beautifully as he sang the song's main vocal. This was always going to be a long show. The longer it ran, the more money it could raise. And with a download of the event available for presale on iTunes heavily promoted throughout the event (another revenue stream) the organisers were maximising every opportunity to raise cash. So it was a shame when, halfway through, the website crashed and the phone lines were so overwhelmed they couldn't connect. Who knows how many dollars waiting to be pledged didn't get through? Waters was followed by Eric Clapton, and it was at this point that remarks about the age of performers began to flood the internet. "Have to respect the passion Bruce brings to the stage!" said one. "Especially for being in his 60s. Sweet vest too." "Eric Clapton: the only 67-year-old who can rock the hipster glasses just as much as he rocks his guitar." Of course when the Stones came on to play a brisk two songs: You Got Me Rockin and Jumping Jack Flash (Opening line – "I was born in a crossfire hurricane") Mick immediately joined in on the joke. "This has to be the largest collection of old British musicians ever at Madison Square Garden," he said. "And if it rains in London you've got to come and help us out." The first, and only, woman to perform as a headliner – Alicia Keys – didn't come on stage till almost three hours into the concert. She played for about 15 minutes, before things returned to normal with the advent of the Who's Roger Daltrey and Pete Townshend (or Keith Moon as Brian Williams called him). There followed the evening's highlight for some and lowlight for others, as Daltrey bared his tan, very buff, hairless chest and kept it exposed as he sang. For a very long time. The Who led into Kanye West dressed in a leather kilt who led to Long Island's Billy Joel performing his iconic New York State of Mind as well as a bunch of his other greatest hits. Then the Brits returned in the person of Chris Martin who sang an unplugged version of Viva La Vida before bringing Michael Stipe of REM "out of retirement" to sing a low-key and moving Losing My Religion. It was left to Sir. Paul. McCartney. (as Quentin Tarantino introduced him) to close the show. By the time he came onstage in extremely high-waisted jeans, we were on day two and it was well after midnight on 12-13-12. "Thank you for staying," said McCartney gratefully. He sang Helter Skelter then Let Me Roll It followed by a song from his Wings portfolio before finally, at 12.50am, two hours and 35 minutes after the last one left, another woman came onstage. Diana Krall – an amazing talent. Not that you'd have known. Krall didn't even get to sing. She briefly accompanied Macca on the piano for My Valentine before silently disappearing into the wings to be noisily replaced onstage by Nirvana. Before I end I should mention that there was a healthy representation of comic talent punctuating the night. From Billy Crystal to Adam Sandler to Chris Rock to the cast of Saturday Night Live, they were there. But again, no female comedians took the stage. (Where were you, New York residents Tina Fey and Lena Dunham?) And the comedy was underwhelming and unfunny. McCartney brought the house to its tearful feet with Live and Let Die as the tired audience looked around for their coats and bags. Around the world, other audiences got ready for bed or for work. A solitary firework exploded and rescue workers, police and firemen came on stage for their bows. Alicia Keys returned and surrounded by the real stars of hurricane Sandy sang Empire State of Mind. It was the perfect finish. http://www.guardian.co.uk/music/2012/dec/13/12-12-12-concert-hurricane-sandy-review |
