Title: Rolling Stones, Unveil Band's First-Ever App Post by Gimme Shelter on Nov 20th, 2012 at 5:50am
The free Rolling Stones Official App is part of the rockers' 50th anniversary celebrations and also has a paid-for section.
LONDON - The Rolling Stones and TV producer Endemol, in partnership with live entertainment promoter Dainty Group, on Tuesday unveiled the global launch of the band's first-ever app. The free Rolling Stones Official App is part of the 50th anniversary celebrations of the legendary band and also has a paid-for portion. It allows fans to watch interviews, try and win tour tickets, see photos and videos of the band across the decades and, in the paid-for portion, unlock content shot specifically for the app in preparation for the Stones' upcoming tour. The app will later add a feature that will let fans worldwide vote for a favorite track to be played at a concert. The app also allows fans to connect with each other and with the band, preview tracks for free and buy exclusive merchandise and any song from the Rolling Stones catalog on iTunes. The app is initially exclusive to Apple's iPhone, iPad and iPod Touch. “We wanted to do something a bit special and innovative - an app that really connects with the user, lots of exclusive content, integration with social networks and the ability to make a song request for the upcoming shows,” said Stones star Mick Jagger. Keith Richards added: “There’ll be quite a few surprises in there for the fans; some behind the scenes footage; some old, some new stuff that very few people get to see. It’s all part of a rather splendid celebration for us.” Tim Hincks, president of Endemol Group, added: “It’s great to be part of a world first for the world’s biggest rock'n’roll icons. The Rolling Stones Official App is a rich treasure trove of content and interactivity.” Endemol and Dainty are co-managing the international media and digital rights to the Stones’ upcoming “50 and Counting” tour. It is the first time the band will perform together on stage for more than five years. The final tour gig at the Prudential Center in Newark, New Jersey on Dec. 15 will be offered live via pay-per-view around the world. London’s O2 Arena and the Brooklyn Barclays Center are the other stops on the tour. http://www.hollywoodreporter.com/news/rolling-stones-endemol-unveil-bands-393259 |

just downloading it now
"Win tickets to the upcoming tour"....do they mean for shows that begin in just five days time and which isn't really a tour or is this effectively confirmation that there will be shows in 2013. |

Just downloaded it and entered the contests for tickets - they're for tickets, flights and accommodation to the shows in London (Nov 29) and Newark (dec 15)
The exclusive 'paid' content of the site costs a whopping £0.69 (I think it's $0.99 for the US) And right now I'm watching new footage of them playing at the Trabendo....... |

Hard to tell as it's just a news feature with snippets. From what i can tell, its fine.
Live version of "Doom & Gloom" on there. 'Start me Up' too. |

Them fleecing us is one thing because it goes to bankrolling their luxurious lifestyles, but what is far more unbearable are the fans who come with their: they deserve everything they have and stop complaining. What an unbelievable bunch of crap. I wonder how many of these stop complaining people have bought the Rolling Stones wine and some of the other crap that is put out. Then again, they might just be crazy enough to have done it. What is really disappointing is that until 40 Licks, I still thought the Stones were a little less commercial then nose bleeds like Sting and Paul McCartney, but with that tour and after it, they caught up in storming fashion. The only thing I still like about this aspect of their business is that they still don't do the usual talk show circuit of crap but that will probably soon occur. |

[quote author=Gimme Shelter link=1353412235/0#0 date=1353412235]The free Rolling Stones Official App is part of the rockers' 50th anniversary celebrations and also has a paid-for section.
LONDON - The Rolling Stones and TV producer Endemol, in partnership with live entertainment promoter Dainty Group, on Tuesday unveiled the global launch of the band's first-ever app. quote] as someone who works with these daily this one looks as if it was thrown together by a startup and Roadie Mobile isn't a startup...I put my review in on itunes as the .99 cents is nothing but not telling us if it's a recurring charge is bad. not using entire screen of iPhone 5 is stupid and using iOS 5 as protocol when in fact iOS6 came out sept 17th and we are on iOS 6.01 now. when you open profile to set it up the close and cancel buttons are 3/4ths blocked off by top of iphone window where your carrier, and icons are. its fucking joke. they took all info that they have on facebook, the web, you tube and elsewhere and put in an app. a few reviews mentioned it crashing but i suspect they are using and older iPhone 3GS which doesn't have the horsepower to play/work with the videos. you want either wireless or LTE for smooth playing. But honestly it has so far 3 pages out of 4 screwed up and 2 "child" windows that open up off of them to fill in info that aren't cleanly accessed. I imagine Mick is behind it as they have a few videos from youtube on app where they talk about tech stuff and keith says he doesn't have a cell phone and only was just shown how to turn ipad on and off to play scrabble as do the rest save for ronnie who claims to have an iPhone and uses the app "brushes". I think he meant ipad. oh if you want to log in you need to use either twitter (i went with twitter less info they glean from us) or facebook cause "roadie mobile" along with the other UK company behind promotion of app wants your info!!! I love my iphone 5 and have had every model of one and yep waited overnight at Apple store by Yale to get latest (white 64 gb iPhone) but i also make 75% or more of my living off the iphone. now they say they are going to release an android version of app (yea good luck with that) as if they can't screens and pix to use proper size on the only 2 sizes of screens apple has ever used good luck with the android end of things. and there in less than a 1000 words is my review :) see some of you hopefully dec 15th as i got section 16 row 13 and the section starts at row 12 and seat 3 so i am a breath away from $800 seats for $500 and on ronnies side for first time. never sat side stage but always being close up front the sides looked like they got some action. too bad the USA shows aren't getting Taylor or Wyman as the London shows are. though the video and posts on twitter through the app claim shows of over 2 hours and plenty of special guests :) is there a rocks off meetup planned????? you know its a good day when at 56 (until midnight) you are killing the treadmill at planet fitness and for a playlist instead of 82 boot they just released I choose itunes "urban jazz" which for a closer they have a kenny g song on it? wtf miles davis and other jazz greats then kenny g?.... Mick is the techie and Apple fan as he probably has his portifolio full of Apple stock. My daughter got me one of the logo t shirts for my birthday today from kohls.... 31 years of marriage yesterday and 57 years young today damn never thought i'd make either. how life changes us..... :) |

isn't it great how the app is free..., but not really if you want the cool bits?

correct and the worst of it is for a measly .99 cents to me thats hard up shit. embarrassing to the band as the jing gets split up what could they get .35 cents out of it? cause they would post that on their you tube channel sooner or later if users don't buy it. |

can we expect an android version of this app. saw it on a i-phone and looked really great for the few cents to be paid! Very nice how the band (Endemol) has put this together.
(Why are so many people so cynical about most things our favorite band is doing??.....the guys are almost in their 70's, bring out 2 new songs, 2 gigs in Paris, fans attend rehearsals, 5 show upcoming, guest performances announced......come on......) grt, Albert Holland |

I didn't spent that much money on my favourite band/hobby the last few years...........the 'gave' us good re-issues of YaYa's, Exile and Some Girls. Surprised me with Ladies & Gentlemen and blueray Some Girls in Texas, Stones in Exile, Muddy and the Stones etc. etc. and not to forget the very good quality Stones Archives. I think: money very well spent! (I agree: the tickets for the new shows are much too expensive. Amsterdam dec. 3: The Black Keys: 35 euro....) grt, Albert Holland |

yes they have posted many times on this app that they are working on android version... i am complaining about the poor coding of app its down right embarrassing. i could care less about the other crap they do to make money if I want it i'll buy it if not i won't. but i imagine if they can't get the only 2 screen sizes apple has ever used rite in the app how the heck they going to work an android version with phones that won't scale on their own. my complaint. and the 99 cents. shit its same stuff they have posted on their you tube channel. |
