Getting pretty windy here on Long Island and some flooding starting up in the towns along the shore.  I am far enough from the coasts to not have to worry about that.  It's the damn wind and the subsequent power failures that could be a problem.  Have the IPod and IPhone all charged up and ready to go to keep the music coming!!!

Stay safe all.

This storm is just so far-reaching. A friend in Indiana is getting 60mph winds, from the winter storm that is meeting up with Sandy on land!! Here in central Va, the worst will be from about 7pm to 8am tomorrow. No flooding here, but the high winds and all the tall trees in my yard--and everywhere, will wreck havoc around here. It's cold too! NOT looking forward to no power with an autistic daughter and a big, scared-y cat dog in the house...

It was only terrifying when I was out last night shooting photos. I live in an apartment building, so my family was well insulated. The only thing I worried about was a tree branch breaking our windows. I know the people who own the house in the 2nd group of photos. The guy collects old Mercedes and just moved his car when 15 minutes later the tree crushed it. I'm happy for them the tree didn't blow towards their house.

As East Coast residents pick up the pieces from the devastation left behind by Hurricane Sandy, NBCUniversal is ready to step in and help. The entertainment conglomerate announced plans on Thursday morning to air a telethon on its networks to benefit those in need following the massive superstorm that ravaged New York, New Jersey, Connecticut and parts of Massachusetts and West Virginia. The special, called "Hurricane Sandy: Coming Together," will air on Friday night, broadcasting simultaneously on NBC, Bravo, CNBC, E!, G4, MSNBC, Style, Syfy and USA. Matt Lauer will host.

As noted in the press release, "Coming Together" will include performances by Christina Aguilera, Jon Bon Jovi, Billy Joel, Bruce Springsteen and Sting. Jimmy Fallon and Brian Williams are also scheduled to appear.

While "Coming Together" is only airing on NBCUniversal-owned platforms at the moment, the company did allow that other networks could join as well prior to the 8 p.m. EST start time. (The telethon will be tape delayed for the West Coast.) Should "Coming Together" air across all networks, it would be far from unprecedented. In 2010, George Clooney spearheaded a telethon for the damage caused by the Haiti earthquake, and it aired on all four major networks (NBC, CBS, ABC, Fox) as well as MTV, HBO, PBS and more.

please donate any amount if possible.

Here in North NJ gas is now so short we can only go to a gas station on odd or even days depending upon the last number on your license plate. We finally got power at our house last night but most other people I know are still out and it's starting to get really f'n cold outside. People are losing it trying to get gas for generators. Someone pulled a gun in order to try to cut to the front of the line at the gas station by my house. There are fistfights starting to break out. People are pissed. The stores don't have anything on their shelves because it's spoiled. Basically the entire state is a shitshow at this point.

That relief thing on NBC was actually pretty moving.
I really have not seen a lot of news coverage of the aftermath.
Hard to wrap your head around such devastation.
For all of the preparations, fact is that hurricanes are just so powerful, you can't prepare enough.  You can't repair fast enough after either.

If I believed that any money I provided was actually getting where it was needed, I would have pledged.  But Tina Fey told me that it was going to the red cross, which has not been doing so well up there I hear.  People are freezing and the Red Cross is handing out hot drinks.
I can fucking hand out hot drinks.

That's what led to my question last night about Mary and her mom, and Ellen.
What people need is shelter and power and food.

And I was never a Billy Joel fan, but that guy can sure play piano real nice.

Ellen fled to Florida; now there is some irony for ya. Fleeing Hurricane damage in JERSEY by heading to FLORIDA!

As of last evening Mary's cell was going directly to voicemail and Betty's landline was not; which tells me they are still without power.
I did reach Mary's friend Danny Keane in Ft Lauderdale who spoke to Betty on Thursday. They remain in their apartment and are getting a lot of help from neighbors.

So much suffering; it's very humbling.

GOOD NEWS.

Mary and Betty finally have power. Came on last night.
They are finally warming up and a nearby store was just delivering groceries.
Being without TV and radio, they are just now seeing the devastation.

Their neighbors really took care of them; bringing them blankets, bottled water and free meals that were being handed out
by the Red Cross. 70 year old neighbor carting extra bottles of water and extra packaged meals for those less fortunate.
There are still many good people in this world.

Saying a prayer of thanks........

It is very difficult ( and costly )  to repair a 19th Century Infrastructure  . This hurricane has exposed the United States for what it TRULY is  ...... a Third World Nation with Nuclear Arms ( see : The Soviet Union circa 1988 ) .

Then again , Third World Nations are NOT 16 TRILLION dollars in debt either .

Sadly this is 100% true. It's been on the news here in NJ and I have an aunt who lives in Alabama and it has been all over the news down there as well. Unions have a place but this is typical union bullshit overstepping their boundaries. There are STILL millions of people here in NJ without power and its f'n cold out now and the unions would rather hold onto their stranglehold of the area then help people who desperately need it. It's a complete disgrace.

RINGWOOD, N.J. -- Some residents in northern New Jersey awoke to a small earthquake early Monday.

The temblor, with a magnitude of 2.0, struck at 1:19 a.m. and was centered in Ringwood, a community that's still dealing with downed trees and power outages from Sandy.

Geophysicist Jessica Turner at the National Earthquake Information Center says some people reported hearing a loud boom. Turner says those on upper floors of a home might have felt shaking or saw objects on walls vibrate.

The quake was 3 miles below ground and could also be felt in Mahwah, Wanaque, Oakland, Franklin Lakes, West Milford and Paterson.

Ringwood police say there are no reports of damage.

Lineup Announced for New Orleans' Sandy Relief Benefit

Posted Friday, November 9th, 2012

Along with trains of hope and Frenchmen eateries, City Hall is getting involved in the outpouring of New Orleans support for those who found their lives upended by Superstorm Sandy. Earlier this week, officials announced a Nov. 20 benefit concert that would send money to Northeast nonprofits through the City's NOLA Pay It Foward fund. With the week winding down, the lineup for the Mahalia Jackson Theatre extravaganza was announced, and many of New Orleans' favorites made the cut.

Tickets for the benefit cost $50, and are available through Ticketmaster. Even the service fee is going to a good cause, as Ticketmaster will donate $3.90 of its handling fees to the New Orleans fund.

Here's the full lineup for the concert:

Irvin Mayfield

Ivan Neville

Amanda Shaw

Stephanie Jordan

James Andrews

Big Sam’s Funky Nation

Mia Borders

Khris Royal

Sasha Masakowski

Stooges Brass Band

Wild Magnolias with Big Chief Monk Boudreaux

More acts are expected to be added before showtime.

Hi everybody! I'm alive and well, but alot of my stuff is ruined. Waiting out the repairwork here in FL where it is a very pleasant place to be. Many of my close friends from NJ are suddenly homeless. Its really sad because the Jersey shore is completely destroyed from Atlantic City, Brigantine, Long Beach Island, Seaside, Point Pleasant, Mantaloking, etc, all of our most beautiful beach communities are blown apart. Its going to take a long time to rebuild. Some people lost everything. I'm not so sure the Red Cross is doing well getting the money to the people who actually need help. Everyone I spoke to hasnt gotten anything from red cross, but FEMA funds are being released already. I'm plannng to relocate, no more beach block location for me! I'll miss it but I'm thinking high on a hilltop sounds right. Or maybe I'll just stay here.

Thanks for the encouragement. I still have to go back to NJ on Saturday and throw a bunch of stuff out and clean up. If it looks really bad I may relocate to higher ground. Or maybe I'll stay if I can get any money to do everything again, but I'm not sure yet. Dont really want to deal with this mess but I have to.

The Rolling Stones Invited to Join '12-12-12' Sandy Benefit Concert
Rockers could join star-packed bill that already includes Bruce Springsteen, Kanye West and Pete Townshend

Just four days after Hurricane Sandy devastated the East Coast, the plans for 12-12-12 – a massive benefit concert at Madison Square Garden featuring Bruce Springsteen and the E Street Band, Kanye West, Roger Waters, Paul McCartney, Jon Bon Jovi, the Who, Billy Joel and many others – started coming together. Spearheading the effort is the same team that organized the Concert for New York City after September 11th: John Sykes, President of Clear Channel Entertainment Enterprises; Harvey Weinstein, co-chairman of the Weinstein Company and James Dolan, Executive Chairman of the Madison Square Garden Company.

"We realized this wasn't just a power outage in New York," Sykes tells Rolling Stone. "This was a catastrophe. We started booking artists at a furious rate, machine-gun style. We literally had it booked in days. Much like the Concert for New York City, there wasn't a lot of chatter back and forth. The artists were basically quick to say, 'I'm in.'"

Bruce Springsteen and his team were looking into booking their own benefit concert at New Jersey's Izod Center when the call came in from Sykes and Weinstein. "I wanted to be sure that the funds would go throughout the devastated areas, not just New York," says Jon Landau, Springsteen's manager. "Bruce and I talked it over and he's thrilled to be doing it . . . The capacity in this format with these particular people to raise money is much, much greater than we could have done on our own. We decided that, at least right now, this is the best thing to do."

The organizers aimed very high when booking the other acts. "The core of the conversation was, first and foremost, 'Let's look to get the biggest legends we can line up on one stage,'" says Sykes. "Then we tried to make most of them somehow either residents of New York or those who really made it in New York. Paul McCartney is a New Yorker half the time. Roger Waters lives in New York. Bruce and Jon Bon Jovi are obviously from New Jersey . . . Even Pete Townshend spends some of his time in New York."

Finding the right date was challenging. Madison Square Garden was booked pretty solidly through the end of the year, and Springsteen is on tour through December 10th. The Who wrap up the first leg of their Quadrophenia tour on December 9th in Connecticut, so the 12th made sense – even though Jason Mraz had MSG booked on the 11th and they needed that date for rehearsals. Mraz graciously agreed to move his show up a day, and the rest of the pieces started falling into place.

Plans are still very much in flux, but the current plan is to stage the entire show in four-and-a-half hours. The Who, Kanye West, Roger Waters, Paul McCartney and Bruce Springsteen and the E Street Band will all play roughly 45-minute sets. The other guests – including Alicia Keys, Billy Joel and Jon Bon Jovi – will sit in with one or more of the main acts. "There are some slots we haven't announced yet," says Sykes. "Some artists have come in these past few days. We're still trying to put together the best combination to make it a show that people will never forget."

The Rolling Stones are playing in Newark the day after the concert. Might they stop by? "There's been talk of that," says Sykes. "The challenge is they have a full-blown dress rehearsal on the 12th or the 13th because their Pay Per View special is on the 15th. But, yeah, there have been conversations with them. Mick and Keith came out for the Concert for New York City 11 years ago and played on their own. They're well aware of the show and certainly have been invited to be part of it in any way, shape or form of the band."

The concert will be broadcast across multiple platforms, but those exact details are still under wraps. "We have yet to announce the final, final lineup and everything else that will be happening that evening," says Sykes. "We're speaking to literally every media platform and looking for the best possible reach for fundraising opportunities. What we hope will happen is that many will come in and many doors will be open, like what happened a few weeks ago for the NBC telethon."

In addition to raising money, organizers hope the concert will educate the country about the full extent of the damage caused by Hurricane Sandy. "People don't realize there's a very long tail of impact from this hurricane," says Sykes. "There was the initial damage, but now you have homeless people in New York that are headed into a winter with below-freezing temperatures. These people have nowhere to go. You have homes lost, families torn apart, and these people have nowhere to go."

The big benefit concerts of the 1970s were notorious for wasteful spending, but that won't be the case this time around, organizers insist. "The concert business has learned from the mistakes of the past," says Sykes. "When you have a group like the Robin Hood [Foundation] in New York City, where the entire overhead of the organization is paid for by the board members, that means 100 percent of the funds raised on that concert will go to the people that need it."

For native New Yorker Alicia Keys, agreeing to perform at the show was a no-brainer. "When you are from New York, you carry the city and its surroundings inside you forever," she says. "No matter where you go, it's part of your DNA. The city gives you courage, strength, identity — it protects you. It's like when a family member needs you: you go. New York, Jersey, Staten Island, people here need help right now. They are our family. As artists we feel a sense of urgency to give back to the place that's given us so much. I'm honored to participate in this concert. It's going to be an incredible night.”

Hey! I've got an idea...

What if we could find a mega huge band to play some shows in the NY/NJ area... a HUGE band that could charge like $1,850 for a single ticket kinda huge!

Then some of that money could go back into the community to aid the good folks whose homes and lives have been destroyed

That would work!!

But...

where would we ever find a band to play some some shows in NY + NJ in the coming weeks that could charge that much money a ticket so that a portion of it could go to victims of the storm????

Where???

hmmm.....

any idea???

You would think they have to do something. I mean considering the timing of everything. If they just did their shows and didn't play at the benefit or at least make a public donation. They would really look bad and I actually think they do care about PR. Trying to go out on top and with a lot of good pr at the same time.

Wonder if some of the uber huge Stones fans on the bill - like Townsend and Vedder - will lobby to play with them in Newark?
