Title: Paris warmup show ???
Post by Deathgod on Oct 19th, 2012 at 8:59pm
Some happy few Parisians received a mysterious invitation. Monday, October 29, the management company Carmignac invites the cream of the crop to an exceptional concert at the theatre Mogador. The "bristol" does not mention the title of the show or the object of the invitation, but a tantalizing "the biggest secret event of the year", "the biggest secret of the year". Nothing that much! The musical Sister Act, who currently plays on the stage of this theatre in the 9th arrondissement of Paris, does not appear to justify a such frontispiece. The well-informed rumor evokes a secret concert by the Rolling Stones. Mick Jagger and his friends unveiled the dates of four benefits to London and then to the United States in November and December. This "show case" Parisian will therefore look like a dress rehearsal. Behind closed doors, as mobile phones and cameras will have to remain in the dressing room. The Stones are well worth a moment of reflection

Why do we live in this strange grey town
The paint is peeling and the sky turned brown
The bankers are wankers, every Thursday night
They just vomit on that ground

The Rolling Stones to play tiny warm-up gigs, says Ronnie Wood
The band may perform under their Cockroaches alias

The Rolling Stones will play small warm-up shows,
possibly to take place in Paris, for their forthcoming
sold-out dates in London and New York, Ronnie Wood
says.

:aimamaSpeaking to NME, bassist Ronnie Wood
said the band may perform under their Cockroaches
guise in breaks from rehearsing in Paris. Speaking
about the veteran band's rehearsal schedule, he said:
"We’re all making a concentrated effort of being there
on time every day, we start at three o’clock in the
afternoon, we go through to dinner time, we have
one break and so far everything has been [like] an
operation, nose to the grindstone. We wanna give
200 per cent."

He said: "There’s going to be little club gigs that we’re
gonna surprise ourselves to do as well, we’ll bung a
few in next week or the week after, so look out for
any Cockroaches gigs or whatever! I don’t know
who we’ll be billed as but we’ll turn up somewhere
and put a few to the test. Tiny, 200, 300 people kind
of places."

Last week, The Rolling Stones announced two huge
London dates for November. The rock legends will
play London's O2 Arena on November 25 and 29
to celebrate their 50th anniversary. They will also
be playing two nights at the Prudential Center in
Newark, New Jersey in the US on December 13
and 15. All the dates sold out in minutes.

To check the availability of Rolling Stones tickets and get all the
latest listings, go to NME.COM/TICKETS now, or call 0871 230 1094.

If you can’t find the Rolling Stones tickets you are looking for, go
to the NME Ticket Exchange.

Remember if you have spare tickets, don’t let them go to waste.
Sell your tickets to other Rolling Stones fans.

Its been mentioned in one of the other threads that before the talk of this (highly likely) private gig leaked, there were rumours of another Paris area club show Thursday- secret location announced on radio, 500-700 fans, some tickets available to public, very cheap prices.

It'll be interesting to see if that show is still going to take place - or if the 21st century version of the Stones' idea of touching base with their audience at an intimate pre-tour warm up gig is solely to play a corporate show for an assets investments company.

Considering they marked the 45th anniversary of their performing debut on the last tour with a  private gig for Deutsche Bank executives, it really wouldnt be a surprise, I suppose.

Edit - I originally typed 'tomorrow' (ie, Wednesday) for this rumoured show. My mistake. Thursday 25th was the rumoured date.

Some photos up on facebook seem to be suggesting they're playing this place tomorrow -

At present there is no show listed in their calendar for Thursday 25th October. It also holds about 700 people so its starting to tick all the boxes.

IF this show takes place - whether its tomorrow or anytime after - it seems that there'll be an announcement in the morning, maybe on radio. Theres no details yet of course as the concert is still 'officially' not happening. Word of mouth seems to be the best bet - either that or make sure youre close to the venue in case the tickets go on sale there.

Should emphasise that at present this info remains merely speculation.

Bon chance!

To think that 20 years ago I flew to Paris specifically, not for a concert, but to see 'At The Max' at this place, La Géode, at the same complex :

This is the Trabendo, in case anyone's interested  - from what I'm reading, it has recently reopened after an extensive facelift

A '30-40 minute showcase', according to a report by Laure Nartian of France 2, shared on tumblr.com earlier this morning

http://www.francetv.fr/culturebox/les-rolling-stones-au-trabendo-interview-exclusive-du-directeur-de-la-salle-122865

She has also published an interview with the club owner :

http://www.francetv.fr/culturebox/les-rolling-stones-au-trabendo-interview-exclusive-du-directeur-de-la-salle-122865

"It started ten days ago. Around the Rolling Stones, and Encore Productions, the concert organizer, visited all the rooms of Paris small capacity between 300 and 1,000 people," recalls Alexis Bernier, co-director of Electric Dreams.

"They came at Trabendo twice. When we signed the contract, five days ago, we did not know yet that would be the group. We felt that something was afoot. Boss Production Still, who has worked for Prince, we just said "now you can not dream finest artist to your room." But from there we could only speculate. "

"In the end, they chose us and we are very proud, because the room was what they were looking for: a place warm and rocking. But what we are most proud of is that the Rolling Stones will play on our equipment, with our sound, our lights. I think the layout of the site has also worked in our favor over the competition. "

Tickets say 20.00 hours.

They also describe the event as  'A Short Warm Up Set'

It doesnt mention anything about an opening act, so this really could be a 'blink and you'll miss it' event.

I'm thinking about that LA show Jagger did in 2001 at El Rey to promote 'Goddess In the Doorway'  - it was only seven songs (including one song performed twice).

Bah, humbug !

I say treat it like a quasi-rehearsal, have a good time.

So what if they screw up here & there. They do that in regular shows anyway.

Show them the Rolling Stones, warts & all.

Every club show the Stones have ever done before theyve tried to make it as hard as possible for scalpers.

With this one - you were allowed to buy TWO tickets even though only about 220 were available to the public. The buyer's name is on both tickets. Both ticket holders have to bring proof of ID, even though the second ticket holder didnt have to be there when the tickets were sold.

Absolutely nothing done, it seems, to prevent the lucky customer buying two tickets and selling one off for thousands of euro. Apparently, scalpers were all over the place.

You couldnt make this shit up. At a show thats supposedly aimed at fans and which has great prices, they still cant/wont even bother trying to do anything about scalpers.

This band's organisation would fuck up a two-car funeral.

It says phones are strictly forbidden on the ticket, but I'd expect a few people to be able to sneak some in. Would really love to see some pics/clips.

Came home tonight to find an e-mail in my inbox from a German Stones fan - and someone I dont really know but who has mailed me in the past - saying he had got two tickets for tonight's show and was offering me his spare one for face value. if I mailed him as soon as possible with my real name for authorisation.

Had I seen it and responded, I could have grabbed a flight and got there early this afternoon.

AAAAAAAARGHHHHH!

You're not kidding.

Basically, the reason why this website existed in the first place was because by early 1998 on the BTB tour (around the time the tour left the US) the Stones' then official site stopped posting setlist and even news updates.  It was a doity job and someone had to do it - so we did.

Ah, not at all.  I don't expect any favours. There were people there who missed out today because of all this scalping nonsense. That's genuinely annoying as they'd made the effort to be there in the first place. I'll hold out for a London club date. Have no interest in the 02 shows but I'd fly to London on the drop of a hat for a small show if I got wind of it and thought I'd definitely get a ticket.

Not really, because the updates are coming at the start of the song. So if theyre posting the 3rd song 'Shattered' just 10 minutes after posting the first one, theyve taken 10 minutes to play two songs.

Has anyone thought of calling Paul Cashmere and reminding him of his prediction that even though the Stones debunked his 2008 'Charlie Quits' exclusive that he had it on good authority that when the band toured again, they'd have a different drummer?

True, but they hardly need to rely on them to get a crowd of bonafide fans going in a club.

Its the Stones. Any audience should  be capable of getting worked up even if they played Puff The Magic Dragon.

I wouldn't complain on this setlist for 15 euro's in a small venue after 7 years waiting...........

True, but they hardly need to rely on them to get a crowd of bonafide fans going in a club.

Its the Stones. Any audience should  be capable of getting worked up even if they played Puff The Magic Dragon.

True, although most warm up gigs take place a week or two before the tour starts proper.

The first 'proper' show isnt for exactly a month yet.

But with so many spies out in the world reporting about what they are doing in the studio, there are no surprises anymore. As they practice more they will fit in/remove songs from the setlist.

I was thinking the same thing about KEEF's set, maybe there wont be one anymore? That started because, uh I forgot why, it was some kind of an argument that caused it. Maybe its all behind them at this point in time. There wasnt a KEEF set in the beginning so maybe they dropped it.

generally, he hasnt

Toads Place 1989
RPM Club 1994
Horseshoe Tavern 1997
Double Door 1997

Didnt do a 'solo' song at any of them.

He played 'Happy' at the Palais Royale gig in 2002 and 'Infamy' at the Phoenix gig in 2005

Keith has been singing a lead vocal on one song since 1972 and on two songs since 1989.

Reason it wasnt there beforehand was because he never sang a bonafide lead vocal on a studio song until 1969.

This is an abbreviated set. There's no need for Mick to take a break if theyre only playing 70 minutes.

I dont know about how the rest of you Rocks Offers feel but I'm completely happy with the club show setlist. You know they rehearsed these songs and we did get the new Doom & Gloom, and Route 66 & Champange and Reefer are relatively rare. They threw us a bone. Midnight Rambler is always a treat and not played continuously, personally I love that song played live, its one of the best songs they do! OK I know the MISS YOU haters are all over that song but its one of MICK's favorates so that always makes it to the setlist, as does Brown Sugar. Overall I think it was a good setlist accept they didnt do as many songs as a live concert. For $750+ they better up the number of songs!  Cant wait to hear reviews regarding quality and performance!

It's just another story!

I think I would've been quite happy with that setlist, had I been among the fortunate few.

Have they EVER started a show with Rt 66?  (By the way, that was written by a guy who lived a few blocks from where I'm sitting now...Bobby Troup of Harrisburg PA)

Midnight Rambler in a club. If that doesn't appease us, we're just too damned picky.

Review from "Libération"

French :

http://www.liberation.fr/depeches/2012/10/26/concert-surprise-des-rolling-stones-a-paris_855834

English (sort of):

The Rolling Stones 50-year career, gave Thursday evening a concert in Paris more than an hour to a few hundred lucky having won a place at 15 euros in a small room in which the public is left won.

"It was crazy, the audience was completely loose, it was amazing to see them in these conditions, especially at this price," exclaimed Eric, a fan, leaving the concert by the legendary group at Trabendo, small room in the north-east of Paris.

The 350 tickets for sale on the morning were snapped up in a few minutes.

Many guests completed the public from a gauge of 700 seats, including Daphne Guinness, Natalia Vodianova, Henri Leconte, Raphael or Nagui.

Shortly before the concert around 2100, the four musicians came to the front door saloon artists and signed a few autographs before winning the boxes.

During the concert around 1:20, instead of the originally announced 30 minutes, the Stones played a dozen pieces, launching the festivities with "Route 66" before singing hits like "Start me up" or "Miss you "and a previously unreleased their latest anthology," Doom and Gloom ".

"I can not believe we are still standing. I thought  one or two of us would be sitting but we're not" launched Mick Jagger during the concert, according to the official Twitter account of the Stones.

"It was amazing. I would move as well as Mick and be as enthusiastic as him at his age," welcomed former tennis player Henri Leconte at the end of the concert.

"It was fantastic. These guys make you feel so young, like a child of ten years," exclaimed the flagship model Natalia Vidianova, accompanied by her son.

"They were excellent, I am a fan for 50 years, I ran early to get tickets this morning. Knew they were repeated in Paris, he was going to pass something. The sound was very good, powerful, "said a spectator fan.

"It was crazy, it is always the best. Was jumping from everywhere, the public was furious," said another fan, George, telling that Mick Jagger had a few words in French and played the harmonica.

After the doors closed, the organizers were let free in the room a few fans who were unable to obtain the precious (tickets).

"I waited two hours, but I found myself 3 meters from Mick Jagger. It was so good to see so few committee," testified Sonia, one of his fans who could attend the concert at the last minute.

Front of the room, some fans evoked rumors about new concerts surprises that could organize the Stones, including Olympia.

Information representation for private investment funds Mogador Monday has already filtered.

Oh no not you again, glad I didn't bump into you, we could have chatted about the South if Paris, your trip to the country side and the barn...

Anyway, I Guess I can die and go to heaven now after seeing them dead center row 2,FMS !

...Ok Im not dead it seems so I'll make a couple of comments...obviously it's hard to be very objective after spending an hour with Mick about 5 feet away ! The best part was the wait...well not really but we knew the best moment of the day, hum the year...ok let's make it the decade was ahead of us!

They played for 1 hour and 10 minutes and were clearly happy to be here, smiles, eye contact...Mick looks above the crowd mostly but Keith looks you in the white of the eye, fascinating! Keith played what he had to play perfectly (not the rhythm guitar monster he was in 1972/73 obviously), no bum notes I could hear and a monstrous slashing guitar on JJF, too bad he didn't get a vocal spot. Not enough interplay I found with Mick on MR like during the NS tour on the B-Stage, instead Ronnie was noodling around rather unconvincingly. Ronnie was a bit messy but the overall sound didn't help, it was very loud and not very distinct, in fact Mick sang a few times to a closed mike...Of course Chuck is the "musical leader" these days...counts in and Mick looks to him (signals one could say I guess) for the transitions and song endings, that's ok. Mick doesn't take things too seriously, how could he, with quite a lot if eye rolling, but does the job and enjoys it!

Best quip of the day, Mick after three songs in a very hot atmosphere: "You'd think some of us would be sitting by now but we're not !"

Too bad they didn't open with Doom & Gloom because as I thought it would it cooks big time on stage ! Route 66 of course was a great way to start too.

Rs.com have published a review :

THE ROLLING STONES PLAY SURPRISE GIG IN PARIS

Tonight the Rolling Stones pitched up at a club in the north of Paris for an impromptu secret gig and rocked the house to its foundations.

600 lucky fans packed into the tiny La Trabendo rock club to witness Mick Jagger, Keith Richards, Charlie Watts and Ronnie Wood launch through a quick-fire barrage of hits, as well as one or two surprises.

After rehearsing in Paris and recording two new belters, ‘Doom and Gloom’ and ‘One More Shot’, as soon as the band hit the stage it was obvious they were out to have a good time and to celebrate five decades of treading the boards.

Right from the start, The Stones went back to their Marquee Club roots and launched into ‘Route 66’. Mick bantered with the crowd in French whilst Keith Richards cranked out his bluesy licks on ‘It’s Only Rock and Roll’. Then the twin guitars of Ronnie Wood and Keith trading on the Muddy Waters classic ‘Champagne and Reefer’. Charlie Watts, as always, occupied the drum riser with quietly amused dignity whilst emphasising his rock ‘n’ roll credentials throughout the set. Charlie WAS good tonight.

With long term keyboardist Chuck Leavell and bass player Darryl Jones also in tow, the Rolling Stones tore through a set which included ‘Miss You’, ‘Tumbling Dice’, Start Me Up’, ‘Midnight Rambler’ and ‘Jumping Jack Flash’ and the live debut of new single ‘Doom and Gloom’.

Mick Jagger was all frenetic energy, strutting around the stage and working the crowd, whilst his Glimmer Twin Keith Richards proved he is a master guitar player, effortlessly throwing shapes, laughing and joking with the band, foot stomping as always, as he turned out classic riffs. Hissidekick Ronnie shone throughout but especially through the funk of ‘Miss You’.

This was the Rolling Stones stripped bare, a fast rattle through the Stones’ catalogue, drawing upon five decades worth of material, all sounding as fresh as ever.

The crowd – who only paid 15 Euros for their tickets- went wild as the Stones came back on stage for an encore of ‘Jumping Jack Flash’ and ‘Brown Sugar’…a hot and sweaty night, the Stones back where they belong.

They came to Paris, they played, they conquered…and after an hour’ set, they were gone.

Whilst thousands will witness the band on their four arena shows in London and New York later this year, few will get to experience the Stones deliver in such an intimate, sweaty environment – it was a night to remember.

Set List:

Route 66

It’s Only Rock and Roll

Shattered

When The Whip Comes Down

Champagne and Reefer

Doom and Gloom

Miss You

Tumbling Dice

Start Me Up

Midnight Rambler

Jumping Jack Flash

Brown Sugar

What a Nice Setlist! They should give it to us for the 6th downloadable Stones Archive!

I would have like to be there for: Route 66 (I'm not sure but i think they only use it as an opener in 1963 for BBC show "This is R&B"), Champagne & Reefer (Only the Stones at last on that inFamous blues), & Midnight Rambler (It was already played in a small Club at the Marquee Club but it was too much long ago)!!!

For information... I remember Lady Jane being rehearsed at every tour since 1989... I only find out a 1989 mention in Nico, but I'm sure they rehearsed it some times... (And we don't talk about the sixties live version with Brian... they should have reheased it too! ;O))

ThankXXXXXXX for all the great posting here! Great Job everybody! & Thanks for the Big Keith picture, it makes my day!

Anyone who didnt 'doubt' that Keith could pull it off is kidding themselves. He was quite visibly falling apart on a regular basis for much of the final year of the last tour, had undergone surgery after an injury which could have killed him, was having problems with seizures - and since the tour ended, by his own admission, he had hardly pulled on a guitar for years. Add to that the fact that the man is pushing 70, has long term issues with arthritis and is an alcoholic. Had he been in good shape before now, we wouldnt have had to wait this long for some shows.  People seem to forget some of the eye witness accounts of several of the shows post-Fiji - especially the early shows on the fall 2006 US tour and some of the European shows in 2007.

The main reason why the band have had sporadic rehearsals in the last year was to see if he could still cut it. There was no way Jagger was going out on the road and embarrass himself if Keith wasn't functional.  Chuck Leavell even mentioned a couple of weeks ago about how Mick, Ronnie and Charlie were playing well - and when he mentioned Keith he didnt just say that he was playing well, he mentioned that he'd 'built himself back up'. Without going into detail, there were absolutely concerns within the Stones camp about how limited his onstage playing would be and how to get around it.

There's definitely been some lifestyle changes in the recent past (he's pretty much off booze and was only drinking water the whole time they were at that Somerset House bash in July). And the first thing I looked at when I saw that great photo of him onstage with the guitar were his fingers. Maybe its just me but they dont look quite as gnarled as they used to be.

To expect him to be anywhere near the level he was even ten years ago, let alone 20, 30 or 40, is fanciful, but its refreshing to see him on a stage again and apparently playing well - and even better that its with the Stones

the rehearsal was better. It was very nice but you cant imagine building a Stones gig around it.

A friend of mine who knows Costello said that Elvis blamed himself for Keith's shambolic playing at the Chuck Berry tribute at the start of the year. Keith hadnt planned to play and was just handed a guitar which hadnt been strung properly.

Good point, I now remember thinking the same yesterday during the show, I mean I had other things to "worry" about but I did take a close look at his fingers at some point after realizing he was playing fine and if I hadn't seen the scary close-up pics over the years I probably wouldn't have noticed anything. How it could have improved I'm not sure. On the other hand I was bit more alamed by his slightly glazed look, but there has to be some impact of his crazy lifestyle over the years ;-)

It was interesting that Mick didn't sing the slur on When the Whip Comes Down. They really sound good. A little rusty but it sounds much better than their other warm up gigs of the recent past.

I think Keith's fingers just show up like that on the angle. I'm pretty sure there is nothing you can do once the fingers start going because of arthritis.

Unlike some other warm up club gigs, no 1st time played. Or 1st time covers.

A cool set list though. Esp Rambler.

However, nothing to get me excited about the upcoming arena shows.

I felt they did an excellent job with the Beacon show's set list.. it felt special. I paid $600 for that show and felt I got every pennies worth.

Willing to pay. Just want to something I havent already gotten over the past few tours. They've done an excellent job IMO each tour dusting off or bringing out songs we hadnt gotten previously. But from this show and the rehearsals it seems like all rehashed stuff I've seen plenty of times.

It's an evidence that Jagger is better with the Rolling Stones , but don't  touch Foo Fighters  cause for most youngers ,and for example my 23 years son , they are what the Stones were in the 70 .
Anyway , listening to the partial tracks from Trabendo the Stones don't surprise me , same old song and dance !
i hope they will do better with some rares tracks like Winter etc , we all got a long list of wishes .
Today they even caricature them, maybe it is because they do not have the technique, it is very sad.
Maybe  it's because Dudes are old

They really wouldnt, you know.

They might revolt if the music is shambolic, though.

And how many 'hits' do the Stones have - just the same eight or ten that they ALWAYS play?

And whats the worst these people could do - not come back for their next tour in five years time? Thats REALLY gonna hurt the band's feelings.

Absolutely untrue. When they toured from 1969-73 or so, the show was pretty much all music written from 1968 onwards. Songs like JJF and Brown Sugar weren't warhorses back then, they were recent hits or new material. Their old hits like Satisfaction, Get off of My cloud, Last time, Paint It Black werent getting played. It was as if they were a new band.

Gazza, go a little deeper please. We've come to know a select batch of songs as war horses. We've heard these songs every single tour. Brown Sugar is one of them. Miss You. Start Me Up. JJF.

And as for my comment about about people revolting about not hearing them - that came from Mick. He once said that there are songs he must perform at every show. He feels obligated to perform many of the hit songs from their catalog.

Yes, but you said they have never avoided 'warhorses' in large venues. They have. In the period I'm talking about 'Brown Sugar' (for example) was a new song - it hadnt gained the iconic status that 'Satisfaction' had. Mick himself has even said onstage in recent years when 'justifying' playing new songs that in order for songs to become 'oldies' they have to be 'new' at some point. Which is correct. Most of the songs played in 1969-73 were new in concert to the audience that were experiencing them.  In 1972 for example, the Stones were playing songs from Exile and Sticky Fingers in the US for the first time. The only songs that the US audience would have seen them play before were Street Fighting Man, Jumpin Jack Flash (and only if theyd seen them in 1969) and if they were lucky one or two others. Nothing earlier than 1968 except for about five performances of 'Satisfaction' as a medley with Stevie Wonder.

In which case, Mick's full of shit. Its a cop-out. It wouldnt be a problem if his shows werent tailored towards corporate blow-ins who only know ten songs. Thats HIS problem for having those people in the front five rows that he's looking out at every night.

Wasnt an issue even in the 90s when theyd routinely play stuff like No Expectations or Memory Motel in a stadium. Can you imagine that happening now? You're lucky if you hear the Stones play a single blues song in anywhere larger than a theatre. On the 1999 tour - the first tour they did where they brought in the crazy prices, they dropped 'Satisfaction' and 'Miss You'. They even announced before the tickets went on sale that some old songs were being rested. They sold out every show and - people still came back in their millions the next time.

If Mick Jagger - supposedly the greatest entertainer on earth - cant get a crowd excited and has to worry about performing certain songs to keep them interested then that says something about either Mick's self-confidence (something youd never imagine he was short of) or his audience - because he sure as hell has an abundance of quality material. Other musicians dont always need to be a jukebox for the audience - no reason why a band like the Stones, who have more great and recognisable songs than anyone - should be. Theyve sold about 200 million record for goodness sake - how difficult is it for an audience paying a lot of money for a ticket to invest in the bands music enough to know more than 8-10 songs?

Mick has allowed the Stones to be a jukebox for people too lazy or disinterested in the band's music. By paying lots of money, come people feel theyre somewhow 'entitled' to hear their favourite songs. They're not. And pandering to that is an utter waste of a great body of work from a great band.

Funnily enough that's exactly what I was telling some friends tonight...but the IORR Mick+Foo version is absolutely terrific, groovy, forceful, fleshed out. That lead guitar player is cooking too. There are two simple reasons I think the Stones play the same basic set of songs on every tour: 1) they know or think the audience at the shows wants to hear these songs and just as important 2) they can't be tossed to practice and play the less played ones. They are obviously my favorite musical act ever and the greatest live band of all time but how about being real for a second. The warhorses often sound canned and they look and sound bored doing them. The reason is there is nothing fresh you can bring to it after playing it 10 million times all the time. I've been to many Dylan shows and I love that his setlists change constantly and the arrangements are well thought out and different all the time. Consequently, the songs have so much energy and a great vibe every time. Of course, that still happens with the Stones but it's rare on the warhorses but more common on the few gems they decide to bring out.

I love this fucking video from yesterday's gig.  All people who doubted Keith and the Stones are crazy. This is hot stuff!

People were worried Keith might not bounce back... He definitely had fallen apart by 2006/07 and not everyone rebounds... There's been some breath holding to be sure.

___________________________________________________

I had no doubts Keith would be just fine... and your right... I am kidding myself. In being honest, I was not certain they were gonna even go through with ANY live gigs until Jagger finally confirmed "Rolling Stones...on stage ...later this fall".  I was almost surprised ....as well as relieved.  Then when time started passing, and nobody saw much of Keith I still had doubts.

Given every one of Gazza points about Keith's age and recent health issues and the hard core life he has lived it is a sort of miracle miracle in itself the dude can pull it off....

I guess he can! Last night the few people who were there, up very close no less saw basically every lick he played and they say he did real well. No botched parts and he sounded great...and he PLAYED WITHOUT Ronnie carrying him. In fact, they said he was as good as he was at the very beginning of the ABB tour.

Hopefully he will get even a bit better as they work themselves in. Who knows? but still I can't say I didn't have doubts Keith would ever even play as serious as he did 7 years ago and it seems he can and did.

Awesome News!!

Was really havin some doubts that in fact, the day had surely arrived Keith could no longer carry on as a solid guitar player for The Stones and would have to have assistance from Mick on guitar and Ronnie covering him up most songs.

Was worried it would be "sad" to see him now. Bravo Keith... you are simply amazing.

Ian

Is it the bi-anual transfusions of the blood of whippets and spaniels? Or due to his 'old lady' and dawters being rather osmosisingly-lovely? Or is K's, and the Stains', overall humour that most drives them forward, and ameliorates any tidsy bits of Arthur Ritis?  It's said that Michael's joints and limbs are fit-as-Beiber at this juncture, but it's rarely been the case that KR hasn't 'pulled one out of the bag/trousers/portfolio' when ncessary.

I've harped on this before, but here goes again: the problem is not the 8-10 warhorses; the problem is length of show. I'm not suggesting the Stones try to replicate Bruce's 3-plus-hours extravaganzas. But there's a happy medium -- I'd say 2-hours-and-20 -- where everyone goes home happy.

try not playing Satisfaction for the guy who forks over $3000 to a scalper to see his first Stones show.........they could easily lose Brown Sugar and Star Me Up as far as I'm concerned......but Satisfaction and JJF are staples that arent going anywhere this time.....and as much as I'd like something different and exciting for the PPV they will play it safe for sure live

Right Mel. It's not just the warhorses. Even Bruce has his core setlist. But try different songs in the rest of the set. Change more than 1 or 2 songs a night.

Sebi, you are a prince among men and I hope you have the best night of your life. A fantastic gesture by a REAL fan.

Just as an update to this, Sebi sent me his review of the show (I had to edit some bits out, the reason should hopefully be apparent in the near future)- I hope he doesnt mind me posting it :

Got home Last Night from this Amazing Trip to Paris. Had to sleep the Whole Day to recover. That's why i'm not writing back until now.

Where should I start?? As you know there were these rumors about a secret gig in Paris, and I thought that thursday would make the most sense as i could not imagine, that they will play this corporate gig ( for they charge about 7million $ I think) without a warm up show. My luck was that I have holidays at the moment, but it was no easy decision as I have become a father of twins last year. For my girlfriend it is not easy to handle them alone, especially at night. But she gave me her ok.

So I decided to give it a try and got on the road Wednesday at 17h from Hannover Germany, which is 800km away from Paris.

my friend Oliver and me arrived at 3 o'clock after midnight in Paris, where we were meeting my old friend Gerhard and his wife at the hotel. Gerhard has seen over 120 shows and it was no problem for me to talk him out of his holiday in Italy for this opportunity. After 3 hours of bad sleep, we got up and checked the radio and the Internet for further information for the secret show. Exactly as I was sitting on the shithouse there was this post on iorr, that told, that virgin megastore will be the sales point. We jumped into the car and Gerhard drove like it was the grand prix of Paris. 12 minutes later arrived at the virgin megastore, where about 60 people were still waiting. (you got my photo of the moment). There was already this system organized by fans going on, the everybody chronological got a number, which prevented later chaos. One hour later a lady from virgin megastore came out on the street and told, that everybody can buy two tickets. But they have to be personalized. So we had four more persons that can come with us. I called my best friend from Berlin, wrote you an email and called two other friends and my father. My friends all said yes, that they wanted to come. My father said no. My friend from London, asked me if I have another ticket for his girlfriend, and I said I will want to wait for your (gazzas) answer until the last minute.

So why me you may asked. Ok, very simple. I'm a stones fan since 1989 when I was eleven years old, trabendo was my 64th show (no I'm not a millionairs son) and I daily check the Internet for stones news since iorr got online. And you are by far the coolest (without kiss ass ( did you say it that way in English.)) stones fan in the whole www. You are a living stones/music encyclopedia, and I almost agree with every post you make. Stones, stones politics, politics, sports or whatever else. You put so much effort in it, help people, no matter how dumb their questions are and this in a very smart and funny way. Sometimes I only read your posts in some topics, or I don't read them until your name pops up. You prove that one can be a hardcore stones fan without being an idiot!!!! So when I had the chance, standing last Thursday morning at the champs ellyssee, I got the strong feeling the I wanted to giveyou something back for all that you have done for stones fans all over the world including myself in the last about 12 years or so.

So I checked every two minutes my email, hoping for your answer.

When I got your mail after the show, I feel really sad, cause I was hoping that someone had the same idea like me and you got into the gig. Sad sad sad. But I haven't seen an other way to contact you.

I haven't read any reviews of the show yet, but I try to write my own little review for you.

Having seen more then half of my stones shows from front row, seen them three times i a club)being a (bad) guitar player by myself, and been sometimes very critical with the stones (especially some 2007 shows and set lists overall), I have to say it was a really great show!

When entering the trabendo I could not belief how small it was. I have seen stones cover bands playing in rooms that where three times bigger. Standing in second row, Keith side, only 1,5 meters away from mick & Keith you could see every fillings of micks teeth :) my focus was especially on Keith and his playing. How many times it was discussed that he can't play anymore. I think it was discussed in the stones camp, too. And I must admit, that I had some slightly doubts, too.

But he proved all of his critics wrong. I have never seen Keith playing more concentrated then in the trabendor. No posing through the whole show, very focused to make no mistake. He looked & played rustier and a bit slower, but not in a bad way. The last bit of energy was missing, ( I think he will never reach that level of playing like on the bridges/ no security tour again) but I think his whole performance was fantastic in context of playing together with band.

The rest of the band was on fire, too. You  only have to watch a fan on YouTube of wtwcd, and you will hear what I mean. Fantastic!!!

The set list was great (longer then I expected - there were rumors that they will only play 3-4 songs)(ok, my dream set list would be completely different, and the songs they played are not the most difficult ones -a bit like a safety net for them), all great songs, performed in a great way. They really don't need more back(up) musicians with maybe bobby as an exception.

Micks show performance makes crowd dancing like crazy, I was completely soaked after the show, great rusty, dirty, sweatty rock'n roll at it's best.

What can I say more, it was not best show I ve ever attended, but one of the best.

So don't believe any negativity about this show, I think they are very capable to deliver some great shows in London and Newark.

So after all a fantastic short trip to france, I'm really happy with the only drop of bitterness, that I couldn't get you into this. Honestly

Hope we make it together next time!

All the best from Germany!

Sebi

Ps: here my debatable media performance :)

Hey I'd posted a brief review too ;-) Looks like we were neighbors at the show, I know there was another German guy who was unfortunate enough to be behind my 6'3" carcass but no hard feelings as he recognized me outside and we talked, he'd driven all the way from Munich after finding out someone had a spare ticket for him.

Good to hear Sebi kept a close eye on Keith, I found it hard to keep my eyes off of Mick since he was so close to us but when I checked out Keith he was also playing fine and he gave us these looks and winks and the "undercover eyes" so he must have been feeling good too. Apparently he was in a great mood on Friday so maybe there was a sense of relief from him and the Stones that they'd put up a terrific show the night before.

Yeah JK ;-) It was good to get another confirmation that the playin' was good. I was a bit surprised to find out that JJF was a lot slower in the video snippet they posted than what I remembered so I was wondering if I'd missed some other things. To some extent your mind "freezes up" when you're in that kind of emotional maelstrom and looking back at it now it seems even more unbelievable, oh well...

Not that I've seen and it's somewhat unlikely too many people would take the risk of getting thrown out of that kind of gig for filming with their phone.

Actually a lot of people had arranged to store their phone in their car or friend's car because "no phones" was specified on the tickets and on signs on the gates. There would likely be a cloak room but they didn't want to waste time going there to get the best possible spot. I turned off my iPhone around 7, put it in my bag and checked it in and people were trickling in so slowly (4 or 5 ID+ticket matching) that I kept my #5 spot ;-)

Yes, same rules apply according to the invitations that were sent out. I guess there might be fewer "real" fans there who wouldn't want to risk missing the gig of their life so maybe we'll get vids.

I made a few phone calls and it might not be bankers actually, rather the clients of that investment fund, apparently they have many doctors as their clients for some reason...

Wrong. Get off My Cloud was played at every show from 72-84 ... except for three shows on the European tour of 1979.

A factory pressed bootleg of the Trabendo show has just been released - limited to 200 copies and already sold out, apparently.

On the plus side, expect a recording of it to be uploaded to a torrent site or two in the next couple of days.

I knew someone who recorded it, but I dont know if its his version that was used for this CD or not.

That leaves the Mogador corporate gig as the only currently uncirculating show from 2012.

I never listened to the audio of the PPV, and I saved it on my DVR, and only watched it live and once partially after…

I'm either too busy or not as excited… my kids are at busy, busy ages with sports and school… I went to bed last night at 10pm and asked my wife to let me sleep in, til 8am… I usually sleep 6 hours a night… is this old age hitting me finally?
